Yeah, I was hoping for the same thing. Alas, it was not meant to be.

I saw the new edition of Xanadu at my local Costco for $9.99 which includes movie cash to see Mamma Mia (which of course you could use for any movie playing at the time ). That's a better price than DD had it with the 20% off and I don't know if the DD edition had the movie cash.

Picked mine up at the DD sale ~ I wonder if for certain new titles Costco agrees to hold them back for a couple weeks so the studio has an opportunity window to sell to the fanbase at full retail

Crud mine just arrived in the mail today from the DD sale. At least after tax at Costco it's less than one dollar difference.

I haven't seen individual seasons of either Stargate there for a while. They usually have the SG-1 giant hologram box, though.

Thanks for the price info--ordered it from barnesandnoble.com for $25.19 + tax (after a 20% coupon and 10% member discount and free shipping), and will also get extra 10% back from discover card for shopping through them.

Is it just me, or have the new release deals at Costco not been that great lately?

I've never found the new release deals great at Costco. I do always enjoy their boxset prices though.

Quite true. They don't price their new releases low on first release like BB and CC do. They pretty much match up week 2 and beyond.

Boxsets and catalog titles are the only deals. Note, they also tend to reduce the size and scope of their offerings only expanding their selection in time for the 4th quarter (i.e. Christmas buying season).

This is because they do not "loss lead" but sell them at true "wholesale" prices. $18.89 which is what most of their NR prices are would be what you pay if you went thru a distributor to buy them. Actually that is slightly better. It is the price you would pay if you agree to buy several thousand dollars per month.

The deals Costco gets on box sets, etc. are passed along by the Mfr., they resell them at "wholesale" prices.

If you read articles about Costco, their biz model is based on profiting from memberships. They mark their products up enough to cover expenses. They have in place margin caps. Which Wall Street hates.

The difference I have experienced between them and Sams is that Sams charges you pricing that a distributor would give anyone that they had no guarantee of sales. Costco prices at a wholesale price that a biz buying several thousand per month would get. That is my opinion based on my experience. With DVDs anyway.

Sams Club is similar, but owned by Wal-Mart, and therefore never getting my business.

"Mamma Mia" free ticket: must use computer first

The free ticket included with a variety of $9.99 DVDs mentioned above is not like other free tickets I have seen. You have to go online to a special Costco site, enter the code on the back of the peel-off ticket, fill in a lot of information, then print out the free pass at the end.

I just mention this because it is more complicated than other offers I have used. The ticket prints with your name on it, and they may ask for ID when you use it. It is a good deal (worth up to $10.50), but with the multi-step process, you shouldn't wait to fill it out only a few minutes before leaving for the show.` Also, once the info is filled in, you must print out the certificate/pass within 72 hours, or the ticket becomes invalid.

This isn't anything new. The Hulk/Wanted/Hellboy/Mummy tickets involve a similar online redemption as do the Subway Get Smart tickets. Check the movie cash thread for more info.
