General Costco DVD Thread

I don't know how wanted a thread like this might be, but I thought maybe we could have one for general deals (not coupon specials and other specialty DVDs like the Criterion discs) of what people have found at their local Costco.

To start things off, I found Monk seasons 1-5 for $20.99 each. And although its probably been mentioned in another thread, they also had Smallville, One Tree Hill and Supernatural for $18.99 each (from what I could tell, they had every season).

JB7 03-18-08 06:49 PM

Thanks and I like the idea. ;)

I wish they would bring back The West Wing. I bought Season 1 late last year and would love to pickup the rest now. LOL

thursdaynighter 03-18-08 07:06 PM

Well, the 4 packs of indy films are $17 at the Cal Expo (Sacramento, CA) Costco. I also saw a tin case with The Gambler and The Gambler: The Adventure Continues = a cd for $14.

mrhan 03-18-08 07:19 PM

I think this was mentioned already but It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is only $16.99 at Costco.

This thread is most welcomed(I miss the old Blade threads). I'll contribute whenever I can. As for now, don't forget to pick up the $5 rotisserie chickens.:D

What is the cost for a membership and is it worth it? I was wanting to pick up some of the Criterion deals and maybe Looney tunes sets 4 and 5. I have a Costco 2 miles from my house. Any tips on membership?

Costco Membership Info

I think it's worth particularly if you buy DVDs. I signed up last year spending $50 on the membership and 3 weeks later it was already paid for thanks to buying 3 seasons of The Sopranos saving $20 on each season.

To answer the OP's question, I definitely recommend this thread, especially if mods could make it a sticky. Hint, hint, hint.....:)

All seasons of Scrubs are $21.99 at costco. They are also beginning to stock Blu-Ray Discs for $25.99 to $26.99.

Harold Chasen 03-18-08 09:04 PM

They're also pretty lax about splitting a membership with someone else.

I have always split my membership with friends or family. They don't seem to mind at all, makes for an even better deal.

I don't know how much it saves me but I love the meat and bakery departments at my Costco. I think the membership is well worth the cost.

I will be heading over there this weekend and I will report back any DVD deals I find.

This was already posted, but they have some new/popular criterions ($40 MSRP) for sale at $24.99. Probably the best B&M (well...sorta for Costco, if you call it that) price.

As well, most of their Blu-Ray discs cost 26.99 which isn't cool considering a lot of them had a $30 MSRP.

Bee Movie (2-disc) is $22.99.

They have the JLO and Sandra Bullock movie 3-packs (don't know the movies, sorry) for $8.99. No Country is about $19 but no BD at my store.

That's all I have actually. I'll update next time I go.

I hope I can find The Ice Storm Criterion this weekend for ~$25.

They also have tubs and tubs of extremely tasty hummus.

Oh, and great deals on DVDs. For a while they had three-packs of the Fox Studio Classics for something like $12.

m0vi3fan 03-18-08 10:25 PM

Has anyone seen smallville season 6 blu-ray at costco? And if so, what is the price. I can't seem to find a good deal on this anywhere.

JiM T 03-18-08 10:56 PM

$1.50 hot dog & coke. But that's not what I go for. Me, I like the chicken bake. I always seem to get the last one, and my son has to have pizza instead.

And, they have SNL DVD 2-packs for $14.99...

DirkBelig 03-18-08 11:49 PM

Since when have they been cool about splitting memberships? They told me that only people in the same household could have a 2nd card. I would've given a card to my g/f if I could.

A membership is well worth it if you've got a location nearby, if only for gasoline purchases, which for me consistently are 5-20 cents/gal. cheaper than nearby gas stations. I save at least $100 per year - the cost of membership - at the pump alone. Food prices are excellent, too, as well as electronics. DVD prices are sometimes awesome, but usually not as good as release week sales. Blu-rays are $26-$28 ea.

That's strange. This was a couple of years ago, but they allowed my mom and sister to be on the same membership even though my sis lived two hours away and shopped at a different Costco...

Be careful with The Gambler double feature + CD. I purchased this item last week after which I noticed the distributor was Madacy. When I opened the tin, the two movies were in separate and sealed keepcases. However, both keepcases had cut-outs at the bottom of the cases which also cut into the artwork. There was also DVD case shreds in the tin and in the cases. I returned the entire set back to Costco customer service. The associate said other tins had also been returned because the discs were "skipping" and thereby ruining the viewing experience. I don't think Madacy puts-out a good product. If I am unfair about this, please tell me of a recommended Madacy title.

I'm under my girlfriend's membership without any problems

I went today hoping to find Enchanted in Blu-Ray, but I didn't see any. They had I Am Legend though.

ResIpsa 03-19-08 04:52 AM

My local Costco has a bunch of those nice Warner Bros. two-disc special editions (Chariots of Fire, Casablanca, Giant, My Fair Lady, Amadeus, Around the World in 80 Days etc.) for $8.99 each. Therer were less than a boxful of these titles left. Last I checked, Amazon was selling them for around $12.

pdutta2000 03-19-08 08:40 AM

There was a thread about this but Costco has the Looney Toons: Golden Collections for $23.99. This is easily 50% off normal store prices. I saw plenty of Volumes 2-5 on the shelves.

Glad someone else noticed that bargain. I like to drop in for a little snack now and then. :)

njwiv 03-19-08 09:46 AM

20th Century Fox/MGM boxes of Clark Gable, Joan Collins, Frank Sinatra, Frankie & Annette and Mr. Moto were $15.99 each.

They had 1st seasons of some Fox TV shows for $9.99 each -- some I remember are St. Elsewhere, Bob Newhart Show and Anything But Love.

Galactica Season 3 was $36.29.

jdpatri 03-19-08 10:23 AM

Has anyone seen the new Fox Film Noirs at their CostCo? I thought they used to put out three packs of the new waves....

pagansoul 03-19-08 12:28 PM

I saw the Mel Brooks collection. I don't remember how many movies it contained, maybe 8 for $40 or 10 for $50, all I remember thinking is that it runs to $5 each and I knew all the movies.
