InuYasha Movie set? Good deal, but meh, kind of lackluster for me. I'd rather have had a deal on the series itself.

It's not a bad deal for InuYasha fans. This Deluxe Edition includes all 4 InuYasha movies and all four full-length movie CD sountracks inside a premium wooden box packaging. For those who are curious about the packaging, Amazon.com has some pictures posted by customers.

I wish the Twelve Kingdoms deluxe box sets would be on that list. Suppose I can hope.

In the new year I need to finish my Geneon colections. Don't have the money now because of the Holidays. But want to get...

Zipang
Ergo Proxy
Paradise Kiss
Last two volumes of Monte Cristo
Kamichu
Strawbery Marshmallow
And I think a handful of other singles.

Do you think geneon might put out collections of certain titles after they get a new distributer? Like, Zipang or Ergo Proxy?

Are you guys simply looking for a more economic sound and friendly collection (i.e. thinpak, etc). If not why wait for a second distributor? All volumes for both Ergo Proxy and Zipang are pretty much available for purchase. Seek out sale events.

EDIT: The only issue I see with the current Zipang release is the lack of a proper collector's artbox. (Ergo Proxy has the artbox with all 6 volumes available, so that looks good to go. I simply need to pick up vol. 5 and 6 on Ergo)

I've seen a Zipang box at FYE, Check your Transworld stores.

see the movies. they bring REAL closure to the series...though the Death & Rebirth movie is just a recap of the series and th End of EVA is well...the end of EVA...so i would highly recommend seeing the movies before you pass any more judgment on the series as a whole :-D

You should probably try watching the movies before finalizing an opinion. It does continue the story, but is thankfully overflowing with esoterica and philosophy. Regarding the TV end, I found it excellent as it expresses the whole base idea behind the show. The frailty, imperfections, and conundrums of the human psyche and the objectiveness of existence and reality are exceptionally illustrated throught the show. Episode 24, the last story episode, was one of the best episodes. I found the under and overtones of the episode easy to follow and rather blatant. Kaoru (Kaworu) Nagisa/Tabris is one of the most interesting characters I have ever come across. Tabris being named after the Islamic angel of free will was a clever choice.

Ergo Proxy has a better chance of getting rescued, but it's not a total guarantee. Some of the Ergo Proxy individual volumes are getting to hard to find with online retailers. If Ergo Proxy gets rescued, it won't be happening any time soon. I think incomplete Geneon series right now what likely get the first dibs in getting rescued. Black Lagoon and Hellsing Ultimate are likely the top rescue candidates.

IMO, no other studios will touch Zipang again. I personally really liked the series, but it was a surprise that Geneon even license this in the first place. The content of this series is not for everyone and there is also the problem with the ending. And I'm not sure what other studios think of the Odex dub treatment. And Geneon did release Vol.1+Artbox (w/mouse pad).

Why would you even compare the current prices to those Geneon bargain sales? The price for Geneon titles has not really gone up, they just no longer go on sale as often as it use to (unless they are already OOP). Even if they are on sale, retailers right now usually don't offer discounts of more than 40% off the retail price. IMO, 38% off the retail price for a complete collection w/cardboard foldout digipak is a fair price at this point in time. If the demand is high enough, there is no need for B&M/online retailers to mark down the prices any further. It's almost an either take it or leave it attitude.

It's not a big deal. Those Geneon deals were great back then, especially for those who were building their anime collections. However I don't think TRSI will be doing of those abundance sales any time soon for other studios.

I would have to agree. The last volume of Eva came across as pretentious and it dragged on so long it became just flat out annoying. I sold the box set off shortly after I finished watching it. But, that was before the End of Eva movie was even out.

The Eva Box Sets cost so much, it seems like a waste to not give it a chance to redeem itself. But since you liked the series about as much as I did, if you have Netflix or Blockbuster Online, you may want to try renting the movie before you buy it.

In my opinion, a good example of this kind of philosophical depiction through the anime medium done right is the ending to Akira.

i think, personally, you have to be REALLY open minded (not to assume anyone in here isn't) to appreciate the depth and psychological genius behind the last 2 episodes. Since I'm a psych major in college (about to graduate too), i PERSONALLY had a better appreciation for it the second time around because i was able to grasp each and every concept presented and discussed by the director in those ending episodes. And when i turned off the TV, I really felt a overwhelming sense of renewal in my cognitions about so many different principles...i mean it's so difficult to break it down to the tiniest possible explanation that i think im going to pass and encourage GenPion to take a break from EVA, come back in a week or more, and watch it one more time but try to take it in from a different perspective and pay attention to details about what all the characters are trying to say and the underlying reasoning behind what is said. That's really what i did...cuz i can honestly say i DID NOT like the ending episodes of EVA the first time i saw it...i was falling asleep. So this is just my 2..or maybe 3 cents in the discussion..but i don't want to start any sort of argument..please..O_o just giving my input as an overanalyzer of EVERYTHING (especially psychologically-thrilling anime like EVA )

I think you put that well. I studied philosophy and pyschology, especially Jung, way before college; thus, was able to grasp the various ideas being expressed. I find the series works well with the last two episodes if you pay a lot of attention to the other similar scenes during the course of the show. Then try looking at the TV end and movie endings in relation to each other. Each one echos the other.

I just returned from my local FYE and they are running a Buy 2, Get 1 Free on all Anime titles. They also had a number of Geneon titles at half off, including all volumes of Gankutsuou, Dear S, Girls Bravo, Samurai Champloo and many others. I was able to pick up the first 3 volumes of Gun X Sword(volumes 4-7 were still at full price) for $26.98 plus tax($14.99 x 2=$29.98 less Backstage discount of $3.00 + one for free). I'm going to check other locations tomorrow and I'll report my findings here.

I might have to check this out though I don't really need any Geneon titles.

Just received my box set of Nadia, The Secret Of Blue Water: Perfect Collection from Buy.com. The packaging looked like an 8 year old just taped together some cardboard, but fortunately, the tin was unscathed. One more set to put in my "to be watched" queue.

Still a good deal on other, non-Geneon titles. For example, you can get Hell Girl 2, Mushishi 3 and 4 for $39.98($35.98 with Backstage). Twelve bucks each for 3 recent releases is pretty solid.
