But that would mean less orders for the other things they can sell as part of these b1g1 sales. Who would order the other things they think they will be getting for free if they can't score the main set (X-Files, Stargate, etc.) that would supposedly make the secondary item free? IMO either an out of stock, or policy in only charging when both items ship would be a good solution, but I doubt either will ever happen. Looks like they would rather just have more cancelled orders, upset customers, and more people having to call CS. And that should never have to happen in case like this, but that's exactly what happens. If they have already shipped, and billed you, for the other part of b1g1 order it's up to you to call and complain you got screwed on the price of the one title they shipped. |
They are damned if they do or damned if they dont. If they dont ship in a timely manner the same people will be saying that they will never shop at DD again because it took 2 months to get an order. I mean the xmas rush will be over by then and they cant flip it for as much profit on ebay!
Maybe I'm being snarky, but attacking a company that goes out of its way to cater to us here on this forum doesn't serve anyone in a positive way. I for one don't want them to be run off. I like them being here and addressing things that need addressed the best they can. Making idle threats isn't a good way to get any kind of positive attention and as you can see they just ignore it. I should probably do the same. I only thought I could bring up some other ways of thinking about the situation and remind everyone of the positives they provide us by participating in this community. I see now I was just feeding the trolls and maybe poking them with sticks. |
I am not angry because I got cancelled. I am angry because they are directly lieing to us. To tell us they are unable to get more items from the manufacture is complete bs. I'd guarantee the day this sale is over they will have the set avalible again. I also don't like how their picking and choosing who gets the deal. I ordered at the very begining of the sale and was cancelled. Why? Because I ordered 2 of the same item. Had I ordered X-files and Stargate I'm sure I would have gotten my items, but because I ordered 2 X-files I was cancelled. This is bad business. To them they probably thought I was selling 1 or both on ebay and they weren't having it. One was for me, and one was for my brother. DeepDiscount doesn't care. This isn't the first time Deep Discount has screwed me over, and I'm telling you it will be the very last. They have the worst business practices for a popular business that I know. They say items are shipped, and then ship them weeks later. They offer next day shipping and still ship weeks later, they run sales and then cancel them when they feel like, post items are in stock and then backorder them. I will never order from them again because of this sale.

I see now I was just feeding the trolls and maybe poking them with sticks. And they are ignoring a lot more than just the threats. See any replies to the ones who said they would be willing to have their orders stay on the site until such time as they get more inventory? When I called on my specific issue the CS rep even tried to say I'm the one that that requested the second half of my b1g1 offer be cancelled. Wouldn't be surprised if somebody else gets the same thing. Time and time again they ignore any post that asks why the policy works this way and simply give us the same kind of excuses and non-answers we get by email from other retailers. In fact, the only replies I have seen (beyond the type of non-answers we have seen of this b1g1 issue) are posts to help others buy more product. I agree it's awesome to get answers directly in these threads, but let's not compare helping others to buy more stuff to replying to unhappy customers. IMO it's toally unacceptable to not to makes thing right on these b1g1 offers, especially when the same titles show up again on their site after the sale. |
I don't want to drive them off of the forum, I just want my opinion heard. Enduring poor customer service and policy in exchange for lower prices is a viable business model. Wal-Mart and others have thrived on it. I just want my opinion known (and I'm sure it's been noted - so I'll shut up after this) that I do not appreciate this sort of business, and I am no longer interested in supporting the "WalMart" of online DVD sales.

RE: Stargate SG-1 and X-Files
Let's face it.
MOST of you (including me) will probably order from DD again because we are bargain-hunters. Between Amazon and DD, it's probably 80% of my online expenditures. It's hard to imagine that we have the whole truth here. I'm sure there were some eBay sellers that ordered A BUNCH. It's hard to imgagine that those of us who bought within the first few hours will not get our order. IT would be interesting to see HOW MANY DVD Talkers actually got the product and how many were cancelled. Maybe we should do a poll in the Store Forum. I've had issues with poor customer service from DD as well. Having placed an order and then calling within a few hours, IT STILL SHIPPED ... THREE DAYS LATER. The CSR PROMISED that it was taken care of. Now I have to go through the hassle of a return ... I haven't decided. We'll see if they try to make things right. But it all comes down to $$ and I'm sure that selling us these sets might have proved to cost them more than they made. |
Hey Guys,
I have tried to address everyone's issues. I'll make a final post on the topic and try to clear up as much as possible. The X-Files and Family Guy titles were canceled because we cannot get the product and have not been guaranteed that these titles will be back in stock. They are gift sets made in limited quantities and currently there are no more available. We do not know if they will be available again or not. That is why the orders were canceled. Is it possible that product will some day be available again? Yes. But we don't know that for sure. I really would like to fill all of your orders, there is no reason for me not to want to fill your orders. We initially had the same issue with the Stargate, Angel, James Bond and Addams Family gift sets but we were able to find inventory and we filled those orders. Orders were canceled based on the order in which they were received. It made no difference whether or not you had two of the same item on the order or two unique items. The way these orders work we could not cancel just a portion of the order and charge you just a partial amount for the portion of your order that was in stock. We have done our best to not ship partial orders where one item was available and one is not. It is possible that some of these orders were released prior to us finding out about the inventory shortage but we do not believe that there are many of those. We will work with these customers individually. If we can get enough inventory on the Stargate titles we may be able to add them back to the Buy 1 Get 1 sale before it is over. However, we have been told that we will not be getting more product for the Family Guy or X-Files titles. Again, I apologize for this confusion. I have done my best to address your questions, I hope that I have cleared some things up. Thank you all for your understanding and your business. Dave |
Anyone get (and open) the X-Files collection? Mine sounds like it has a possible floater, but I'm thinking it could instead be one of the extras inside moving around?

Why was an order containing Prison Break: Season 2 (along with Bones: Season 2)
canceled? This is in no way a limited item, nor a gift set. I see that PB2 was pulled from the sale, but to can an order that contained it that was placed legitimately while the item was still a part of said sale reeks of how they say in South Park, shinanigans. |

This is something you need to let the customers decide. You need to realize you need to keep your customers happy. I personally feel as if you should have sent a coupon with all of the canceled orders instead of just sending the message we canceled your order and don't care because we do what we want. I can't believe you just lie and make the excuse we don't know if we'll get them again. Of course you will. Please don't think we're that dumb.
Short of a price mistake (which obviously this was not) I don't find it acceptable business practice to cancel an order for something you later bring back in stock. It reeks something terrible. In this case possibly cancelling the orders at the cheaper price with the next batch of stock being sold at full price. |

Perhaps next time you have a sale with limited stock, put a blurb in the banner that says something along the lines of "Limited quantities available. Once item(s) are out of stock, we cannot honor any orders for these items."
|
this is turning ugly.

If you think about this rationally, you will see that DD/DVDPlanet are not the villains here.
When a number of retailers (and FYE is offering this very same sale right now and probably some others I don't know about) run a deep sale on the same items, it usually means that the manufacturer is helping them out, either to promote the products or get rid of inventory. In this case, I'd guess it's the latter. Fox/MGM are probably looking to clear out a number of slower moving titles. Some of them, like X-Files, will undoubtedly be re-released in the future, but in a different format at, presumably, a lower price. Others, like Big Valley or some of these themed sets, will probably never be seen again once they sell out. So when DD says that they have been told this inventory won't be made available again, they're not kidding. I'm sure that the first thing they did when they saw they were running out of inventory was to ask Fox what to do (since Fox controls other inventory and at what prices they will supply inventory to DD/Planet), and they have been told by Fox. It makes sense from Fox's point of view to cancel orders which will hopefully be reordered for other in-stock titles rather than let orders sit in limbo only to see newly arrived versions of these items coming in at a lower price point. And, since DD/Planet have to do business with Fox in the future, they can't be badmouthing Fox and blaming them for the problems on a few titles, even though that's where the problem is. The 20% off sale is a different type of sale and it's one DD/Planet have complete control over. When they run out of inventory on that sale, it's usually items they will be getting back in stock in a fairly short period of time so they can leave the orders open. |

Asking for them to make it clear that a title is no longer in stock, before people order multiple titles expecting a b1g1 deal, is not too much to ask. Any other kind of policy is very questionable at best and I haven't seen it adressed even once. |

The fact of the matter is that when we put the these titles up we sold a lot more than our original projections in a very short period of time. We then called the studio to order more product but there was no product available and there was no guarantee that more would be manufactured. We took the titles down as soon as we found out we could not get more inventory. We have filled thousands of orders for these titles but unfortunately we have had to cancel orders as well (many fewer than we filled). At this moment we are continuing to look for product to hopefully fill some of the orders that were canceled. If we can get the product we will try and contact customers' who had orders canceled (in the order in which the orders were received) to fill there orders. We really are trying to find this product. And again, I apologize. This was simply a very fast run on product with limited availability that caught us off guard. |

Ditto Deepdiscount Dave, why were these titles removed? |
I just wanted to say thank you to Deep Discount for your comments...It is nice to see a company take the time to do so.
|
Is Deep Discount the same as FYE? I noticed their website is identical except for a different skin. Their checkout process is the same. I placed an order for Bones Season 1 and 2 at Deep Discount but now the items are on backorder. I noticed FYE has the same BOGO free deal and 'claims' to have them in stock, so I placed an order at FYE too.
|
Simpsons seasons 1 -10 can be had at FYE for 100 bux after $10 virtual gift card for each set today only
|
Addams Family complete is back in stock!
Maybe DD will actually get those X-Files and Stargage sets! |

Even though, I have not ordered anything from this sale yet, I do believe DD comes through most of the time, but also believe that DD's Software needs to be drastically updated as I or even a DD's reps are not able to even change a Credit Card used on an order. This situation came up because I placed an order for an item (from a previous sale) that went into being back-ordered and my CC was going to expire by the time the item was estimated to come back into stock. When I spoke with DD Customer Service they wanted me to cancel the order and place a new order as they have NO way to change the credit card, but now the price of the item was much higher. The DD Rep was then able to get authorization to place a second order at the sale price which was great customer service, but this would not have been necessary if they just had the simple ability to change payment card in their system. |
