The main price hikes will happen the day of the sale.

I'm assuming Friday 11/9 is when all coupon codes go active for this sale.

Aw, damnation alley! I was going to cancel an Xbox 360 order to see if the 20% would be taken off. Thank goodness I didn't!

Hope they don't raise the price on Doctor Who series three, as it'll be $55 and change with the discount applied.

Regarding the question in the FAQ about limitations, I'm not sure if this is worth mentioning, however, when I loaded my cart for a test run, I was told there is a 200 products/cart limitation due to security reasons.

Books were part of the 20% off sale last time. So they won't be included this time?

Are you sure about that? I remember wanting to order some books last time and not doing it because of the discount not applying.

I do not recall books being included in the last 20% discount but some books were discounted on their own. I picked up The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Box Set last year for a lower price (currently $92.72) but it was not part of the 20% discount.

Last time, they actually had a lot of book titles already reduced 20% without a code needed, but for a short while, a bug was allowing you to ALSO use the 20% off code as well on the books, so I was able to get 20% on my book order but it was fixed sometime later during the sale to not allow the code to work on books.

I ordered a $100 worth of books using 20% during the last sale. Got some great deals on a few of my wishlist titles. This time? The book selection SUCKS. I did a search yesterday for my top 10 wants, and NONE of them are being carried by DD.

Yes, if I recall correctly the error was that they'd input an awful lot of books in the "DVD" category (oops!) so the system gave them the special book discount and then the coupons worked as well. I doubt that will happen again - it was quite fun though!

Either way, youre better off ordering online with the free shipping cuz we're getting hit with sales tax in IL either way.
Just FYI, DD opened a retail location in Naperville, IL this summer (it's on on the east side of Rt 59 just north of the Target by Fox Valley Mall). I've been going there on most Tuesdays since it opened and to date they've always matched any price on their web site (I've done so many times). They don't coordinate the prices in store with the site all too well, so sometimes things will be cheaper in store on special than what the site lists, and sometimes it's cheaper on the site. So, you can get the best of both worlds. I just always look at the site first and note prices, then I have them price match whatever I know is cheaper on the site and go with the shelf price of whatever is cheaper in store. Have done quite well using this approach over the last few months of that retail locations existence.

I can't believe I'm down to only 416 on mine. Of course, 42 of them are listed as 'not announced', but you never know....

did you search by name or ISBN?

if ISBN make sure to use the ISBN-13 and not the ISBN-10, as I have made this mistake and thought they did not carry some items and really did. The ISBN-13 begins with 978.

I always love the anticipation building up to these sales. I've spent the last three Oct and Sep saying, "do I need this or can I wait until the 20% off sale?"

I ordered a couple of books along with DVDs in the last sale and they all received 20% off. Too bad CDs won't be included.

I'm going to pick up the following
Twin Peaks - Gold Box
My So-Called Life - Complete Series
Angel - Complete Series
The Secret World of Alex Mack - Season 1
I Love Lucy - Complete Series
Roseanne - Season 9
Seinfeld - Complete Series

Of course, assuming none experience any large price bumps, though as none of these titles appear to be involved in any special promotions, I don't expect it.

Last year I thought "Oh man, they raised the price on the Tremors Attack Pack the day before the sale!" before doing some research and discovering it had been part of a UNIVERSAL FRANCHISE sale DD had been having for two weeks before their 20% off sale. I think the only time price hikes happened was November 2005, and even then DD ended up lowering the prices when people complained. I recall LOST: Season 1, and ALIAS: Season 4 being among the titles that experienced a price jump and then just a day or so later DD lowered them significantly. I've always found DD to be very fair with this deal. Like any other promotion you should always do your research to find the best price. I'm just glad they continue to offer the sale every six months. I'm aching for Seinfeld, Angel, Peaks, and Life... considering I sold my previous sets nearly 5 months ago... I need my fix of all of 'em.

Have we gotten any other confirmation than the one above poster that the sale will indeed begin Friday? I'm kind of surprised no one else has gotten notification.

I haven't gotten an e-mail from DDD in years (been a customer for 10 years!). I find out about the sales from others online.
