B&N is having a 40% off sale on TV Boxsets. I picked up Frasier - The Complete Series.

Complete series - $173.98
Coupon code (25% off) (-$43.50)
shipping to Canada - $5.98
Total $136.46 (works out to $12.40 a season)

You can save an additional 3% (-$5.22) if you go through Great Canadian Rebate.

Strange. The book I ordered was easily over 25 pounds, and is indeed still free shipping. It is Sculpting a Galaxy, a Star Wars book that includes model pieces. But it's a $395 book, so maybe they figure it costs enough already.

However in shipping emails, it shows that B&N has taken it on themselves to up ship costs and my bank statement confirms it.

I've emailed B&N; surely this is a mistake.

My apologies for the OT rant.
I feel obliged to mention that B&N refunded the overcharge, and my thanks to them for sorting this out; BTW the shipment arrived in two humongous boxes of the same size, one containing a box set (Warners Gangsters 3) and a single DVD, the other containing just two DVDs that could have easily been shipped in a box a tenth of the size!

John Hodson, my experience is they have top notch customer service. But usually you pay for it.

You're lucky they used a larger box. I wish B&N did that on my last order. I ordered the Bette Davis Collection volume 3 and it was shipped in a box that was too small. It was so tightly packed that they had to bow the top of the box it was shipped in to seal it. When I opened it up I found the box for the set was damaged. However at least the DVDs and individual cases were fine. I'm debating whether it is worth the trouble to exchange it for only some creases and bends.

I had a multi-CD boxset which came with the outer box creased in the mail. (Those foldover cardboard wrappings don't provide enough protection.) I did a super easy in-store exchange for a brand new one.

Nice coupons but iffy service.

First, I was sent the wrong item, 4 Times! Turns out the UPC for the set was stickered on the wrong item they kept sending me and they never got that straight. Took awhile for me to get a refund and they still have it for sale up on their site, knowing their inventory is screwed.

And the other day, I got someone else's order that was addressed to me, but the invoice inside and item was clearly intended for someone in Florida! Personal info and everything, I'm in NYC BTW. Everything is ok though when they get it right.

What is the item you ordered and what is the item you got so we know NOT to order it?!?!?

<html>Here's an updated list of Barnes and Noble coupons. Old list can be found here. I will update the current list if I find any new coupons during the week.

Also here's the 5% Visa link that also offers free shipping on all orders. Thanks to velveeta for finding the new valid link for the offer. The link appears to give free shipping on every order regardless of amount and works with any credit card. However the additional 5% discount may not work in conjunction with a B&N members discount.

Save an additional 5%, plus receive FREE standard shipping on every order at Barnes&Noble.com when you pay with your Visa card. Valid 01/01/2008 to 06/30/2008

http://usa.visa.com/personal/discoun...&printable=yes

I also decided to add the link for Auto Club since it appears they offer the same deal as Visa with 5% off and free shipping on all orders. However it looks like a valid Auto Club Membership is required to access the link, but any credit card should work. During the holidays they have offered a 10% discount with no B&N membership required. But like the Visa link it doesn't appear if you are a B&N member that both 5% and 10% member discounts are stackable. If you are a member you'll only get the free shipping promotion.

AAA members! You receive an extra 5% and now FREE standard shipping on all orders! No minimum purchase required! Discounts are automatically applied when you check out.

Hear hear jeffbase34. Thanks Lasermovies!

One question. As of this new list, can we easily tell which coupons are the "good kind", that are stackable with member discounts and markdowns? TIA, and sorry if I missed a discussion of this upthread.

All the current coupons should stack with a members discount. Thankfully there have not been any new "off list price" coupons lately that were virtually useless. However some of the renewal codes may not work unless you're renewing a membership.

Online coupon codes are one use per account. The Visa discount should work on every order. However it looks like the 5% Visa discount does not stack with a members discount.

I just placed two orders for Young Indiana Jones Vol 2 and Vol 3 (both part of the 40% off sale) using the 25% and 20% coupons. After coupons, membership discount, and tax, sets came out to be $55 and $59. Cheapest I've seen by far.

Thanks LASERMOVIES!

Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but instead of the visa 5%, you can use this for 6% instead.

Word of advice to anyone sitting on the fence on box sets...the Star Trek sets aren't the only ones seeing a drop in discount. Fortunately, I pulled the trigger on a set of CSI: Miami Seasons 1-5 yesterday morning for $112 ($92 shipped w/ tax after 25% discount). Last night it was around $200 member's price before coupon (discount dropped to 10%). I'm sure this may happen to some of the other 'best buys' in the coming days...certain enough that I'm going to go ahead & use the other active coupons today (I have three accounts, so may duplicate a few orders to get some good trade material).

Some of the smaller sets (Untouchables, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Fugitive, Beauty & Beast) are actually pretty decent prices just with the regular sale price without using a coupon. Kind of odd for a B&N sale (except last year's spectacular B1G1).

By the way, the site says the Complete Voyager set is 'not currently available...out of stock' (or something very similar). It says it may become available 'soon', but I'm sure the sale will be over by then.

Oh, and many thanks, Laser, for posting the coupon codes!!

Just wanted to warn everyone, they cancelled my 25% coupon saying I couldn't use it together with a 5% Visa discount.
Also, didn't let me reuse the coupon even though it wasn't expired yet, it was way before 3PM on the 15th.
Thirdly, they block the full amount on the card during the order, even if it is scheduled to ship in a month or more, and so that money are frozen for 30 days.
And last bit, they say they can't cancel the order: "Once an order has been authorized in our system, we are unable to cancel
it." What kind of dumb crap is that?
All in all, a terrible experience with them, as always!

Since I was going to be around a B&N store today I decided to try do an in store exchange. They at least had the same box set in stock and it was in better shape. No problems doing the swap. If I had to mail it back I don't think I would have bothered.

Edit to add. I received another order today and the box for the set was damaged again. This time there was plenty of room inside the box it was shipped in. Doesn't appear if any DVDs are loose, or damage to the individual cases. I won't open it yet and may exchange it if I'm around the store in the near future.

I just received my DVD from 4/14. I used a 25% off coupon and my 10% off member discount, and processed the transaction through the Visa link to get free shipping. Although my shipper showed $4.99 shipping fee, I checked my Visa account transactions, and I wasn't charged the fee.

If B&N doesn't want to allow combining discounts they better fix the web site to prevent it. The few times I've used the Visa link I never had a problem with coupons. Since I'm a member I primarily use the Visa link for the free shipping on orders that normally do not qualify at the regular B&N link.

Also they cannot change the amount you were billed without your authorization. If you are getting charged more I would dispute the charges with your credit card company. Or was this on a debit card? Hopefully you have a email copy with the original charges available as evidence.

If it was a pre-order you can usually cancel the order on the web site. If it was in stock you cannot cancel because the orders process quickly. I often get a shipping notice the same day I order if something is in stock.

Yea I was going to get the Fraiser set and waited one day too late! ARgh would have been an amazing deal.

You can still snag Jag season 1 - 4 for 53 bucks! Awesome deal
