I don't think it's deliberate. I think Mark from DVDPlanet even commented on it once. There are used items that are sometimes only $2.50 or $3.

Use the advanced search in DVDPricesearch to search for a specific range. I know they have some DVD's in the mid-$5 range.

Finally ordered Criterion's F For Fake from DVDPlanet which I've been itching to pull the trigger on. Procrastinating still over Testament Of Dr. Mabuse.

So is anybody else exploiting this thing for all it's worth? If used properly, I think these prices beat anything I've ever been able to find. In addition to my orders placed a couple of days ago, so far I've gotten:

Gone with the Wind - $4.95
It's a Wonderful Life - $5.96
Dead Man - $2.21
Blue (3 Colors Trilogy) - $2.21

I assure you that a lot of people here are placing orders like bandits, but many are "shy" about posting about it after the Amazon.com and DVDPlanet BOGO fiascos.

i made a nice amount of orders last time, all with one time use, low limit one time use numbers and different e-mail address's (i own my own domain), and i am a little gun-shy on this time around - the thought of this deal lasting for over a month bothers me - at some point, i don't see how google of all people wont realize the same name and address (needed for credit card auth) has multiple accounts. i don't see anything in the TOS that would legally make me nervous at the onset, but I'm no lawyer and i have no idea what would happen. I would be more inclined to get back in on this if people were less shy and i knew i would have people to converse with should a problem come up later on. the main reason being this isn't a "sale" - the retailer is not giving you this discount - this is closer to a bank giving you $50 if you open a checking account. well how many checking accounts at the same bank would you open?

thoughts? anyone?

Go to CAG. There is a thread over there with plenty of people doing this over and over again, and even mention it in the thread title.

I'm sure a little gunshy on this one. I've only placed two orders, one for a video game and one for a DVD. If those ship fine and we get closer to the end and people aren't having any problems I may place a few more. I sure won't be going too crazy though.

That being said, Google has to know people can use this multiple times. Wouldn't putting measures in place to limit it to once per address or per credit card number be easy? Is it possible they just don't care for whatever reason?

This is my first time using this.

I ordered Week End from cduniverse and Phantom of Liberty, Contempt, and Stevie from dvdplanet under four separate email accounts.

Was this a bad idea? I'm new at this, so...

A lot of people took advantage of the signup bonus when it first appeared late last year. Since then a lot of other incentives from Google were available around the holidays and it now seems Google is getting ready to open another salvo aimed at PayPal even if it costs them $$ to attract customers. They are sitting on a ton of cash and trying to develop other business models. The jury has yet to reach a verdict on GCO.

Alright, thanks.

Also, what's this about the $20 off $50? Is it still going on? I'd like to pick up the Bergman trilogy from dvdplanet in the near future.

The deal is over but I'm betting they'll make similar offers in the not too distant future. The $20 off $50 was only available through Buy.com and their prices were a moving target. DVDPlanet and Buy (and others) offered $10 off $30.

I used the $10 off $10 at DVDEmpire to get the Misfits' Walk Among Us CD for $3. Anyway, does anyone know how to check the status of a GCO order there?

I'm really beginning to like DVDEmpire. I ordered Friday late morning, shipped Friday afternoon, received it Tuesday morning.

For those of you who still think it's "wrong" and "immoral" to place multiple orders, PLEASE explain this in the Google Checkout help section...

Can I have multiple accounts?

Yes. If you have multiple email addresses, you may open multiple Google Accounts to use Google Checkout.

I think by this point that speaks for itself...not to mention that if they DIDN'T want people placing multiple orders, they'd have scrapped that in their system by now (5 days after the promo launch).

I agree, it's pretty much a marketing tactic. A brilliant one at that. Google has the money to burn, and on top of it, it looks like (to each vendor) they're getting 10x as many unique purchases. Inflates Google's numbers well.

Good point. I like how they totally mentioned how the first time buyer bonus would be a valid on each account you create!

We know they allow multiple accounts. We know the $10 bonus is meant for first-time buyers (it says so on their site). Just because it works on each new account you create doesn't mean that it's supposed to, just that Google hasn't figured out how to prevent it. Or maybe they assume that a household may share a credit card and don't want to prevent every "buyer" in that household from using this discount once.

No matter what, you still are a cheat. Don't worry, though, we won't tell your mommy.

Now, can we stop arguing about this stupid issue and get back to talking about the cool bargains people have been scoring?

I feel dirty, but I got "1900" from DVD Planet for $5.96. And I'm fairly confident that's the only order I'll be making with this discount.
