Alright...does this mean I need to get one of those virtual credit cards to get the discount at CD Universe, since I already got the discount at DVD Planet, meaning this is a one use offer, and cannot be used at more than one vendor? With my current credit card info on file w/ Google, the discount does NOT work at CD Universe.

Why is this so complicated for people? The discount is a 1-time $10 off a $10 (pre-shipping and tax) order. At most vendors, it won't work for pre-orders or out of stock items.

Some (nefarious?) people were able to get it to work against the same credit card if they previous took part in last year's $10 off $10. Others got the same card to work multiple times in different Google accounts. Either method seems very easy to track and we've already seen Amazon.com and DVDplanet go after people who have abused their systems after orders have been completed/shipped. Is Google far behind?

Safer, but still potentialy dangerous, seems to be using virtual credit cards in different Google accounts. Many of these cards are 1-time use cards, which makes it even more unlikely for followup, amazonian "corrections".

That being said, I'm much more interested in seeing what people bought discussed here rather than the endless questions on how to cheat the system.

I ordered "M" the remastered Criterion 2 disc set and am holding another $10 bonus to be applied to the early Feb. release of either Bicycle Thieves or Green For Danger at DVDPlanet. I'll open another account with my least used e-mail address. Might be time to open a couple more.

Tried to order The Descent from DVDPlanet last night. Definitely NOT a pre-order, but when checking out the "Google Checkout" button was disabled, and next to it was a message saying "Google Checkout not Available with this item."

It has to be in stock. You can't use google checkout on out of stock items. Right now The Descent (Widescreen/2006) is "On Order" at DVDPlanet.

Thanks for the clarification. Didn't notice that it was OOS.

I didn't see DVDEmpire on the list at the official Google checkout page, but when I opened a Google checkout account, went to DVDEmpire.com, added an item to my order, and clicked "buy using Google Checkout" it automatically gave the $10 discount.

(In other words, I had no trouble using it at DVDEmpire yesterday despite DVDEmpire not being on 'the list')

Let's try and hold off on answering questions unless we know we know the right answer. It most certainly does work at DVDempire.

Looks like you could get "24: Season 6 Premiere" for under $3 shipped from DVDempire.

I'm doing it twice with the same card. If google cancels the coupon, I'll send the stuff back. No harm to me.

Either way, I just ordered "Sound and Fury" a documentary about Deaf Children and implanting them so they can hear, for $5.95 shipped from DVDPlanet.

I was thinking about that, but don't know much about it. Was it a blind purchase, or can you recommend it?

I can't believe in a million years they aren't aware that you can use the same credit card by simply starting a new account with a different email. Do you really think they're that naive to allow what's probably THOUSANDS of people all over the internet to do this -- and that DAYS have gone by and they haven't "corrected" something that was set up and working the 1st time they did this?

Methinks the number of users (email accounts) they're generating is the point here, not whether or not people make more than 1 order. If the latter was the point, I just can't believe they're not "aware" of it.

And IMO that's NOT "cheating the system"...if it was, Google would have put an end to it last Friday right after it started!

I had to create a couple of new e-mail accounts to get these, but I ended up getting:

Dazed and Confused Criterion - $15 or so
Au Hasard Balthazar - $10 or so

Has anyone signed up for this lately? Everytime I try to "re-register" my information the sign-up page converts my billing address information into gobbly-gook symbols and then refuses to accept them!...

That's the lamest reasoning I've ever heard.

Which isn't to say that I haven't cheated the system myself. I was just saying that this particular cheat would be easy to track if Google ever decided. And since you're using the same card for multiple accounts, then it's clearly not a one-time use card, so if Google ever decided to "pull an Amazon" and try to charge you what they felt you owed them, it would be a lot easier for them to do so.
