My store did not honor B2G1 on the $5.99 movies. They never do. When I go out to the suburban stores it's all bread and roses, but here in NYC the clerks are just looking for a reason to argue or shoot you down at every opportunity.

I wonder if I can get a price adjustment if I take the receipt to a better store.

I saw illennium had last posted and was thinking, "it is about that time of year where I start to damn him for regularly hitting the GS jackpot on these sales."

My friend told me he went to an EB today and said they wouldn't honor any movie for the buy 2 get 1 free that was over 12.99, can someone confirm if this could be used for box sets that are expensive. Say if I want to buy 3 boxsets that are 49.99 each, can I do that? He's a jerk if he lied to me, because I was going to go today and buy a lot of stuff but now it's kinda too late. I guess I'll have to go tommorow if you guys can confirm it will still work on box sets. Thanks ahead of time!

I'll check at EB on the way home tonight, but I know that the initial e-mail to the stores said that it was going until the 29th.

The e-mail to the stores gave instructions on how to handle the B2G1F on $5.99 titles. Inform them that you know of this fact, and that you want to talk to the store manager. If they refuse to let you, or if the manager refuses to honor the deal, inform them that you will be contacting Gamestop's corporate HQ and you will also be filing a false advertising complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Box sets are most certainly included in this sale. As you can see throughout the thread, people are talking about buying box sets. The same response I gave to illennium applies here. Tell them that you know for a fact that their information is incorrect (do not use words like "lying" or "wrong" as they sound too confrontational). Proceed to talking to the manager and then to corporate if necessary. Warn the manager that you will be complaining about him to not only his corporate office but to the BBB as well. Gamestop might brush off a complaint about a manager, but if it's accompanied by a report of false advertising to the BBB, that could get the manager canned (which he or she deserves for either lying to you or making it to the position of manager and still not knowing how their store sales work).

I've heard of some GS managers being difficult with deals like this in the past. My question always is: why? Are they personally losing something because of these deals?

The deal definitely works for boxsets. Here was my score today:

NSIS S1 - 17.99
Lost S1 - 26.99
Monk S4 - 22.49
24 S1 22.99

Numbers S1 - FREE
Scrubs S3 - FREE

All this for 97.38!

Stopped at one of the GS stores on my way home today... picked up a few filler titles (and a couple for the kiddo). They couldn't find the disc for one of the $9.99 titles I grabbed, so they let me get a $12.99 one that I wanted (but didn't want to get two others) for the $9.99 price! I love my GS/EB stores! (Ironically, on the backside of the one I went to today is a Tower Records that's in the process of closing... still nothing decent there pricewise). Also, I asked the guys point blank about the length of the sale - they indicated it's on through next Sunday.

Not only can I confirm that the sale works for box sets, but I even got a buy 1 get 1 free when the employee couldn't find the discs for one of the box sets I was getting. That's a huge YMMV though.

Big Love just came out 4 days ago. That's strange someone would spend that much on it, watch it that quickly, and then get rid of it. I'd think if they didn't like it it would have taken longer to get through.

Tried a couple more today but all the good box sets are gone now. One of the employees said he had grabbed many of them himself and bought all the Star Trek and Lost sets yesterday.

No complaints though, I did grab some stuff I wanted for a long time like the Pink Panther Film collection. I'll keep checking in at a couple while the sale is on.

The employee even said he bet the set was stolen.

From: Here, which is not there.
Transformers Season 1 (whee! OOP is always fun!)
24 Season 2
Smallville Season 5 (well, I knew I didn't want to pay much for it...)
64.98 total.

A little steeper than I'd prefer, but a good bet all the same methinks.

I'm convinced all of mine are stolen. Several near by stores had many identical box sets all in mint condition. They will go store to store trading in one copy each of several box sets. Probably an inside job at Best Buy.

I was at EB games tonight and found the OOP Orion/Image snapper version of Bull Durham in mint condition for $5.99. I was returning a DVD at a similar price and hadn't ever picked up Bull Durham, so it's sort of like getting it for free I guess and it's OOP and was mint. Glad to finally own it in any form after nearly half a decade. I passed on it 1 to many times over the years to turn it down for free.

Gamestop/EB games give you squat for your used DVD's in cash, so it only makes sense. Personally, with the amount of money invested in my DVD collection over the years if I ever sold it to them for cash they would be stealing it away from me. Selling unwanted DVD's to them is fine here and there, but boxsets, yikes!

Still hit or miss in terms of stores honoring the B2G1F on DVDs. For example, the first store I went priced the $5.99 DVDs as basically $2 each since they are normally 3 for $10. However, the second store I went refused to honor this on any of their DVDs saying they are "always buy 2 get 1 free . . . for ex, 3 for $10, 3 for $20, etc.". I even showed them my receipt from the first store who honored the deal properly and they basically stated that store did not know what they were doing.

I hate it when there is so much inconsistency at these stores.

I ventured up there today, and found squat besides the Band of Brothers set for $40, and Armegeddon (with some damage to the case) for $10. Needless to say, I didn't spend any money. Unfortunantly on a lot of deals like these, the employees (who were even bragging about it to each other when I was in there) swipe up a lot of the good dvd's.

Because buy 2 $5.99 titles and get the third free equals $10 and not $11.98?

Tell them to read the damned e-mail that they got announcing the sale. The assistant manager at one of the local stores tried that shit with me also. I asked him if he had read the e-mail announcing the sale, and he said he hadn't. After he did, I had no problem getting the correct pricing.

Some of the people who work at gamestop are morons. By the way some of the people have acted, you would think they are losing out on money. A lot of people who work at gamestop went out of their way to help me, they knew how to give me the best deal, and thanked me for spending so much money. I'll never forget one trip to a gamestop in new jersey (I live in pennsylvania) I stopped at a few, and I wanted to buy like 21 box sets at this one gamestop. The manager told me that he would only sell me 12, because they experienced a lot of credit card fraud. He told me the only way he would sell me them is if I went to an ATM and took out like 400 dollars. The guy pissed me off, he asked me why I was buying so many, who the hell cares why I'm buying them. You can't just say to someone, I will sell you 12, but not 21, that's illegal. It's not posted anywhere that says there is a limit of what you can buy. It says they accepted major credit cards, and as to my understanding, if a store refuses to take your credit card, they can get fined very heavily. I showed him my drivers license, and the signature was a match, and he still was a hardass. The atm didn't work for me for whatever reason, so then I got really mad, I just walked in and was like why can't I use a debit card, it has a pin #, and I said to call the district manager and ask him. The guy ok'ed it and the stupid manager gave me a shitty apology. Also on one of my trips to the Rockaway mall in new jersey, a cop stopped me after I went to a gamestop. I forgot where I parked and was walking around the parking lot. He made me show him my receipts, drivers license, credit card. He even ran my plates on my car and the drivers license. It was the most ridiculous thing ever, and I wouldn't really be shocked if the manager of that gamestop called him and said he thought I was using a stolen credit card or whatever. I'm gonna go tommorow and buy a whole bunch of box sets.
