Wally World in Lexington, KY on Nicholasville Rd has the WB / New Line titles mixed in with the Tartan DVDs... I didn't see any Universal titles, this was on Saturday.

Picked up The Changeling...

I ended up grabbing House of Wax (1953) and the Village/Children of the Damned double feature on my second visit. Would've liked to get Changeling as well, but didn't find any.

Anyone in the Tulsa or Broken Arrow, Oklahoma area found a Wal-Mart with the Universal display? I'd like to upgrade from my old Image PRINCE OF DARKNESS to the newer Universal one.

Regarding The Changeling...

If it was filmed in 1.37:1, then why do various reviews list is as widescreen anamorphic? For instance:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=3953

I saw it at my local Walmart, but the display had a bunch of palettes and boxes blocking it, so I couldn't look at the display very well. I also saw They Live, but I have the old version which is the same as the new one except for the packaging. I've never seen The Changeling, and whenever I hear the title I think of the ST:TOS episode by the same name with Nomad. "I am imperfect. Must sterilize!" Captain Kirk could've been called the Computer Terminator.

While on the subject of horror, maybe someone can help me out with something that has been puzzling me. Long ago I saw a horror movie on TV which I thought had William Katt where 2 monsters lived in a hole in the basement. All I remember is that they were scared of light so when they were trying to drag him into the hole he kept using his camera's flash... until it ran out. I thought this was called House, but when I watched that movie it was totally different. Anyone know what this movie was called?

just looked up his movie listings, and he was in two movies called House. the second one was the fourth installment. chances are that those are the ones you've seen...hope that helps.

It is Duel that is 4:3 and made for TV, not the Changeling which is Rated-R and 1.85:1.

Could have been House IV, which is the only sequel Katt appeared in in that series.
But I haven't seen it in so long I couldn't say for sure...
It's another Katt horror film though.
(but hey, House rules!)

Perhaps you are thinking of a old made for tv horror movie I loved and scared me as a kid and I would love to find on dvd. It was called "Don't be Afraid of the Dark". William katt was not in it though. Here is a link to it on imdb.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0069992/
The little creatures whispering to the guys wife was scary to me back then! She uses a camera flash to fight them off at one point.

As Jah-Wren Ryel mentioned, I was refering to DUEL, not THE CHANGELING.

Same around here. They usually show up eventually but sometimes stores are late or maybe even early putting up these displays.

I read the descriptions, and this sounds like the right movie. Unfortunately I remember almost nothing except that scene. I saw it so long ago that I was picturing William Katt instead of Kim Darby. The 2 demons seem familiar as I remeber they looked more like aliens/demons than monsters. It hasn't been released on DVD, so I'll have to keep my eyes out for it on regular TV.

Thanks, there's no way I would've ever figured out the movie title without this help.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't read the quoted text carefully enough.

They had the Universal display at my Wal-Mart today and I was able to snag:
Shocker
The People Under The Stairs
The Funhouse (blind buy)

I may go back for:
Raising Cain
Bordello of Blood (possible blind buy)
Snow White - A Tale of Terror (possible blind buy)
Gotcha!

I already have and highly recommend:
Prince of Darkness
They Live
Halloween II
The Serpent and the Rainbow

Any comments on the ones I marked blind buy would be much appreciated. Are they any good?

I don't think this has been mentioned before but I saw Cat People in the display too. Now if I could only find Incubus for cheap I'd be a happy camper.

Well, I bit the bullet and got THE CHANGELING (never seen, but the word out is good; don't steer me wrong, DVDTalkers!), THE MANGLER (I hear it's tripe but I gotta finish my Stephen King collection for good or ill), THE NIGHT FLIER (better be widescreen or I'll track you down) and TREMORS 4: THE LEGEND BEGINS (I already own the TREMORS Attack Pack, but wanted the missing bonus features for this title). I still haven't found PRINCE OF DARKNESS yet and I'm still mulling over the sight-unseen THE HIDDEN. Anyone want to convince me on the latter one way or the other?

I picked up The Hidden yesterday. At my Wal-Mart, the cheap horror DVD's were piled in with the regular $5.50 rummage bin. I also grabbed The Haunting, and Exorcist II (one of the great bad films of all time). I might go back now to look for Cat People, They Live, and Tremors.

Still no sign of the damn Tartan display, though.

Groovy. Picked up The Haunting (1963) for $4.88. Outstanding price.

The Hidden has an ok rating at www.imdb.com. Can't say the same for The Mangler. I picked both up as blind buys.

My store finally put out the horror display. I picked up:

Prince of Darkness
Cape Fear (1962)
The People Under the Stairs
The Serpent and the Rainbow

I didn't see The Changeling which I probably would have picked up. I'm interested in seeing Cat People but didn't buy it.

He he, yeah, pretty bleak outlook for THE MANGLER, but $4.88 to help complete my King collection (whether I ever watch THE MANGLER more than once or not) is worth the investment. Let me know what you thought of THE HIDDEN. Oh, and I finally found PRINCE OF DARKNESS so, unless I'm convinced by others to pick up THE HIDDEN, my $4.88 horror titles mission is now complete...

I need to check my WM's tomorrow, I've been looking for this sale and a LOT of those titles are very appealing (The Changeling, They Live, Prince Of Darkness, The Haunting, etc...) They also used to have The Brood in the 2 for $11 bin, but I haven't seen that in a while...

The Brood was from a 4.88 display months and months ago. Many stores just dump them into the 5.50 dump bin after they take the displays down, hence your seeing it in there.
