i actually love the original movies, right thru the cheesiest last one. i loved the even cheesier tv series as a kid (i had all the plastic models) and i'm definitely jonesin' for that monkey head. but i gotta wait 'cause i smell a much lower price soon. studios prove themselves over and over again with box set kickouts.
i'm with kevin smith though on the tim burton factor (for those of you who've seen AN EVENING WITH KEVIN SMITH)...why'd they have to ruin a good thing with a stupid remake? plus now the skies wide open for them to do more stupid remakes from the series...ugg, hollywood.

and hey...let's stop blaming DDD for price drops after the big sale...i don't think they intentionally plan this stuff, i assume there's been a manufacturer price drop and we'll see similar drops from other vendors soon.

Blaming them for the price drop is perfectly valid. They did just significantly drop the price, didn't they? I don't think we're saying they intentionally planned to drop the price once the sale ended, I'm not at least. I'm just saying that under their satisfaction guarantee policy, they should refund the price difference to those of us that bought during the sale who request it.

Wow, I really didn't need to spend any more on DVDs for a while, but I'm in for one! I almost bought the legacy set during the sale, but decided against it. Glad I'm waited! I also put my Great Fun trial membership to use and sweetened the deal a bit; got it for 77.71!! Thanks OP!

I'd put my money AGAINST this. They made tons of the Lord Of The Rings Gift Sets and Matrix figurines, even though they considered them "limited". They were also sold through pretty much every consumer DVD location possible (i.e. Wal Mart, Circuit City, Best Buy).
I have not once seen the Planet Of The Apes head in any of these stores, and doubt I will. I tried to make as many excuses up not to buy one....but I feel these may be gone soon, turning it into a rare collectible (10,000 is not a lot of DVD's, considering). Who knows, though? I've been wrong before.

Ok, ordered during the 20% off sale and paid $95.16. Called customer service today to get refunded the difference of the current price and was told they only do price matches to their own prices w/in 10 days of their shipping date (of course mine was shipped 12 days ago). I never saw this policy of theirs before, but whatever.

When I told them I'm just going to mail it back under their 30 day satisfaction policy and then reorder it, she said that would be fine and that I could do that. I then asked if they would just refund the difference w/o me having to do that to save each of us shipping, she talked to her supervisor and was told NO. I guess they effectively called my bluff cause I already opened my ape head and I wasn't going to pay to ship it anyway. I am disappointed that DDD wouldn't want to help out their customer and avoid the hassle of me shipping to them and them shipping back to me over $13 or so. Especially considering I've spent $4k-$5k w/ them over the past few years. Oh well, I'll still buy from them nonetheless, I still think $95 was a good deal, just trying to save a few bucks more so I can buy more movies.

Wow, had this in my cart with code applied when the 20% off sale ended but never pulled the trigger. I figured it could be had for a less amount soon or later. Didnt know it would be this soon!!!

They credited me the $13.36, but then again mine only shipped three days ago.

Kudos to you for fighting for what's right, and maintaining a good attitude when you didn't get it. That's a very rare thing in most of us (as customers), because many people would scream "Boycott!" without following through.

I cashed my Great Fun check ($5) three weeks ago and still haven't received anything in e-mail about my "trial" membership.

I'd be in the same boat as you pilot if I didn't get mine at launch (for which I thought was a great price!).

Well, you would still have to pay shipping, but if you ordered a new one at the new price and then sent that same one back in the place of your first one they would never know the difference. Probably still save $6-7 even after shipping.

Oh, did I mention the $4-500 i spend the DDD sale prior to that plus $200 from Amazon in the last six months to. Is there a term for DVD addiction? Do you qualify if you bought all the moves you really want then start trolling DVDSearch and using IMDB to find movies you never-heard-of-before-but-probably-should-see?

I thought about that too, but not worth the time involved for me, I was just going for the easy settlement over the phone. I'll make a phone call for $13, but I'm not going to reorder, wait, ship, wait for payment for maybe $6.

Did you try to call over and over until you get a CSR that will satisfy your request? I've done that a few times, not just with DDD but with other companies as well, and it usually works for me after a few tries.

I had to go through that with PayPal the other day to get a duplicate charge deleted from my account. I paid for something over the phone, and for some reason it went through twice in a ten minute period. It had happened before and PayPal manually removed the canceled charge for me to remove the pending status to free the money up for me, but this time the CSR just wouldn't do it, and told me it was impossible. I went through the same thing with about three other people after calling three different times, but the forth one did it for me in a matter of seconds, just like I knew they could.

Most of the times when I call and get a CSR, no matter what the company, I can tell who's going to be easy to deal with and willing to help me and who's going to be a hardass and just sit there and read their lines off of a card/screen without really helping me at all.

I do that all the time!

I go searching for older films, unknown recent flicks, foreign films from all over the world, and on and on.

Hmmm . . . I don't think I own any of "The Planet of the Apes". Isn't it about time I own ALL of "The Planet of the Apes"?

Same here. The ape head is too cool... but I didn't care for most of the movies... but the ape head is too cool.

But I'm also trying to save for Comic-Con next month.

But the ape head is too cool.

I went ahead and picked this up for a few reasons:

-I wanted to pick it up in the DDD 20% off sale, but at $90+ I just couldn't get myself to do so.

-The second lowest price that I can find on this set right now is $129.94 at DVDPlanet.

-With only 10,000 sets produced and with it looking like DDD is trying to clear out their stock, I don't expect these to last.

-I've heard that it's been stated that after these sell out, that'll be it and no more will be produced at all, making it truly OOP.

I don't want a few months to go by and all of a sudden it's not on DDD anymore and I'm not able to find it anywhere. This is something I'd like to own, so I might as well buy it now while the price is right. I wait too long to buy the Wrestlemania Anthology box set, and I'm not going to do the same with this.

Besides, it'll go great with my I, Robot Sonny head.

I received # 851/10000. I think this is a cool looking set and not as large as I had imagined (it's really not so overwhelming). The figure is well made and scares the hell out of dogs. I'm making my 80 year old mother display it proudly in her living room since I have too many dvds at home and have no place to put it.

Well... my self control lasted almost exactly 24 hours. Dammit. To justify it, I looked over the upcoming release calendar, and there's really nothing coming out I want until September (MI Season 1) and November (Superman Mega-Set) so hopefully I can avoid places like Hollywood Video and I'll be fine.
