Gross income is commonly defined as the amount of a company's income before all deductions or any taxpayer’s income, before taking deductions or taxes into account. For a business, this amount is pre-tax net sales less cost of sales. IE: PROFIT
Hello, McFly? -- READ what you quote:

Revenue: "money that a company receives ... mostly from sales"
Gross: "company's income before deductions"

For most businesses, including DDD just about all of their income is from sales.

As for your "quote" from wikipedia the "IE: PROFIT" part is your own addition, a false appeal to higher authority - maybe you don't understand that "cost of sales" does NOT include the cost of the product sold?

Regardless, my use of "gross" and "net" was not intended to be the highly technical accountant's usage, if I had meant to do that I would have said "gross revenue." Taking the discussion off-track by focusing on minor, and in this case bogus, nits doesn't change anything. The bottom line - the money in the bank after all costs - is what matters, both for companies like DDD and for deal-hunters.

For 100 units sold at $1.32, they lost $8000 in revenue, which is $8000 in real money that they should have had.
Again, that ~$8000 would have never hit the bank, would never have been in their bottom line - what affects their bottom line is ONLY their total cost - the profit portion of the $8K is just potential, not actual. If you define "real money" as "potential money" then you are correct - but the rest of the world will disagree with you because you can't spend "potential money."

Look at it this way - if tomorrow DDD permanently lowered the price to $50 per set, would you then say that those 100 sets were now only a loss of $5000? Nothing's changed except one arbitrary number, why should that affect their actual loss?

As for shelf-sitters, 100 units would not have sit in inventory long based on the sales reported in this thread.
These theoretical 100 sets were opportunistic purchases - they would not have sold at the $81 price-point - thus for the purposes of calculating carrying costs they are effectively the LAST 100 sets before DDD sells out.

Jackson2006, did you get 4 at $1.32?

I thought about trying for more and get my christmas buying done early, but was afraid that would red flag my order.

I don't wanna be a downer here, but I noticed one thing with my ape head. Do you realize how many cancer patients could benefit from all the hair they used on the ape heads? You always hear about people cutting their hair and donating them to cancer patients, can you imagine how much hair was wasted on the ape head? Just a thought..
