(DEAD) Planet of the Apes Ultimate Collection $81.80 @ DDD
It was mentioned deep in one of the DDD 20% threads, so I thought it was worth mentioning that the Planet of the Apes Ultimate Collection (14-disc set with ape head) is now $81.80 at DeepDiscountDvd, which is actually ~$13 cheaper than it was during the sale after the discount and is by far the cheapest price I have found on the web for it.
So, if you have any extra dollars and don't have this set, it might be worth picking up.

All right, that does it. I've resisted and resisted, but I'm in.
Damn you! Damn you all to hell!
(Looks like DDD expected lots of these to move during the sale and didn't quite get rid of them.)

Well this really sucks. Shouldn't complain too much though since during the sale it was still the best deal compared to other sites and I knew the price would go down eventually. I just never expected it would be DDD to lower the price first, especially before I receive the one I ordered during the sale!!!
I'm sure you could probably return the one you just bought, then rebuy it later at the lower price, but that's not worth the hassle for me, I'll just keep it and proudly display the ape head.

You could try emailing them and complaining. I once bought some clearance items and they reduced the the prices before i received them. I told them I'D return it unless they pricematched to their site and they did. Easy as pie.

Even if you think the ape head is silly (like I kinda do), you can just pull out the DVD set within and store normally. It's incredibly compact, with great packaging. And you get every film, the remake, extras, the full tv series, and full animated show. Absolutely amazing.

Man, I bought it for around this much at amazon cuz I had gift certificates. I guess I should have waited, seeing how all I've done is opened the head to look at it and I haven't watched a single disc yet.

I just bought this during the 20% off sale. I can't believe it is that cheap now. If you have any interest in this at all, it would be smart to jump on it now. A very cool set and something I'm glad I purchased.
I got #2285.

Just grabbed myself one. I was really thinking about it during the 20% sale but passed on it. I can't do it again. Now all I need to figure out is where the heck I'm going to put the ape!!
BTW...I signed up for the Great Fun promo to save another $20. Has anyone done this?

I'm tempted to get it and i'm not even a fan of the movies. just from a dvd collector's stand point, $81.80 is a steal. Amazon has it for $161.99. now I gotta see who will win in the fight between my wallet and the empty shelf in my dvd case.

Looks like they wrote their description in a big, echo-y cave...

I think I'm going to call tomorrow (if the price is still $81) and ask for my $13 or so back. DDD has 30 day satisfaction guarantee so if they won't give me the difference I'll just mail it back to them then reorder. I got to believe if we say that this is what we're doing, they'll just give us the $13 to avoid the hassle. We'll see. I'll let you know what they say.

While that is a GREAT deal, it would be an $80 blind buy for me (except for POTA 2001) and I need to build some self control. I remind myself I already have 700+ DVDs, many of which I still haven't watched...

i bet these wind up eventually going the same route as the LORD OF THE RINGS box sets with the figurines, or the MATRIX box set with the neo figurine...
if they don't sell through the 10,000 units nationally, we'll be seeing these monkey heads kicked out at some crazy price (like $30.00) at sam's or bjs. then everyone will bum out.
