It's not just X-Files, a lot of Fox shows are 50% off right now @ Amazon:

X-Files
Buffy
Angel
Space: Above and Beyond
Lone Gunmen

I picked them up for my wife to give to my boys to give to me for Father's Day. So I'll let it be her headache. If she wants to save $15, she can deal with it.

figures that the one I need (season 6) is backordered 6-11 days. I still ordered it, that price is better than DDD's will be during their sale.

I would advise anyone that's thinking about this deal to not sit on the fence. Amazon had a sale on some TV sets last week that lasted less than one day before they jacked the prices back up. So play it safe and get your orders in.

I still haven't watched my $14.99 season 1 I got from Fry's. No need to buy 2-9 just yet.

I've got 1 - 6 of the old set. I'd like the get 7 - 9 in the same packaging. Are the old sets marked down yet?

I think your best bet is going to be at BB for those. And that is YMMV on getting them lower price and the $30 off.

Amazon has them for $89.99 each.

I had forgotten about this release. Beats BB's save $30 deal by a ways. Thanks OP!

I think it is a very mild YMMV. My store has the old sets with a sticker price of $9x, but I did a price check and then rang up as $42 and while checking out, the $30 got auto discounted from the total. So, for me at least, they both ring up at $42, and is included with the discount.

Keep in mind that these new versions of the sets are sans bonus features and have fewer discs (for instance, Season 9 originally had seven discs, now it has five). Something to consider if you have seasons from the orginal release and are looking to complete the series.

Plus, don't forget about the spin-off "The Lone Gunmen". Wal-mart had that 3-disc set for $19.xx a few months back and might still be available at some locations.

The Lone Gunmen is part of this 50% off sale as well:

Thanks, I was just going to order them at Best Buy. SF's best buy doesnt have the old packaging anymore last I saw a few weeks ago, I think those disappeared once the new packaging for season 1-3 came out.

Just a heads up that the X-Files movie is $5.99. I think it's always that price.

And, for those new to the show, the movie takes place between Seasons 5 and 6.

This probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I just finished season two and plan on starting season three this weekend, but the movie is playing at my local revial theater on Saturday night, and I'm wondering if I go and see it with only a season 1/2 knowledge will I understand what is going on? and more importantly will it give away major storylines from seasons 3-5?

Thanks!

The movie may make a little more sense but you already have the basic back story. It may even make you want to watch the seasons even more. I had only watched a few episodes when I saw the film and I really liked it and it made me watch season 6 and 7. Kinda stopped watching after Mulder left the show. Can anyone recommend seasons 8 and 9?

If you have the chance to see it on the big screen, don't pass it up.

By the way, if anyone who is reading knows, why am I a New Member if I have been a member for almost 5 years? I am guessing it is my lack of posting.

Season 8 and 9 were also discounted an additional 1.25 in the gold box offers. Too bad I could only use it on one of them.

So the xfiles sets are completely without features?

Were there any on the old sets that were good enough for them to be preferable to the new ones?

I was hoping to use the bundle feature that amazon has but noticed they only use it for the older sets. So you can get new S1 and S2 for 24 each, or get new S1 and old S2 bundle for $114.96!! What a steal..

Man, it's a good thing I don't have a credit card. I would have ordered Buffy 2-5, and 7, and X-Files 4-9. $250 for all that. That's actually a monster deal.

So the new X-Files sets, are the discs with actual episodes the same, just minus the bonus discs, or what? Ive had season 1 of the original release for awhile and had a faulty disc 1 (I thought it just didnt agree with one player, but now it has issues in all players)...I hate going through the FOX replacement program, especially considering Ill end up having to exchange my original release for the new release, so I want to know if I could simply exchange the disc out of this set (and then hopefully find someone that will buy this and doesnt didnt mind this set has a faulty second episode ).

Because you only have 12 posts in the past 5 1/2 years.

Your title is based on the number of posts you have.

Nope. They dropped any discs that only contained bonus features. Any bonus features mixed in with the original episodes (commentaries, deleted scenes, cast lists and international clips) are still on the new sets.

Also because season six had the bonus features on the last disc with the final episodes, they've also been retained on the new set. The other seasons (1-5) had the bonus features entirely on their own discs.

I know that seasons 7 & 8 were like season 6. The bonus features were NOT on their own disc. I suspect that they may be complete on the new sets as well. But my last three sets are supposed to be for Father's Day so I can't open them and check.

Anyone care to pop in disc 6 of seasons 7 & 8 and see if they've included all the bonus material from the original releases?

So is this a bargain or is this the new prices? I really wanted the X-Files but dont want to jump right now if these are the new prices.
