The website actually states the sale ends 4/6/06. Regardless, I did pick up Shoot the Piano Player, Harakiri, Children are Watching Us, and Complete Mr. Arkadin. May pick up more if some others go down to 45% off....

Thanks for the heads up NoirFan. And Thank you DDD. I sure hope all these sales are not in place of the 20% off sales you have been having the past year or so...

Yeah, I was hoping to pick up Solaris.

I wonder what criteria (ha!) are used to decide which discs are included in the sale.

They just box the regular keepcased releases together.

A fantastic deal, especially since these are all films I've been meaning to get for quite some time:

3 Films by Louis Malle - $43.97
Mr. Arkadin - $27.47
F for Fake - $21.97
Charade - $21.97
Stray Dog - $21.97
I Vitelloni - $16.47
Il Posto - $16.47
The Sword of Doom - $16.47
Night and Fog - $8.22

If I buy nothing else the rest of the month than my budget will be all right...

Thanks NoirFan. I've been meaning to pick up Fear and Loathing for a while now so I figured now was as good a time as any.

Au Revoir Les Enfants
Do the Right Thing
The Third Man
The Lady Eve
Videodrome

All for just over 100 bucks. Not bad for Criterion discs. I would've picked up some of the Kurosawa DVDs, but a lot of them are non-anamorphic.

How is "Naked"?

with David Thewllis...it has intrigued me for sometime and perhaps now is the time.

Naked , is a dialouge driven film with quirky characters and a downbeat tone. I feel that David Thewllis is brilliant in this role, and often rambles on incessantly about life and the world around him. If you like this sort of film, I think you will enjoy this excellent piece of work by director Mike Leigh.

I'd had some money stashed away for the 20% off sale, but since these prices are a little better, I'm going to run to the bank and desposit it so I can get in on this. As I'm trying to complete the collection, they're all equally important to me. So I threw all the spine #'s I didn't have into a hat and drew until I had 8 of the $16.47 titles (the best bang for the buck).

I ended up with:
Taste of Cherry
Mon Oncle
Honeymoon Killers
Coup de Torchon
Rififi
The Vanishing
W.C. Fields - 6 Short Films
Pepe Le Moko

I sent the remaining list to my mom for my birthday coming up next month. I had originally told her to just give me cash and I would hold it until June, but this actually works out better (on some titles), and she loves to actually get me gifts so she can see the look on my face. For reference, she got me 32 of them for Christmas last year.

The quest nears completion (or at least to the point where I don't have to play catch-up anymore).

I have been waiting for that too, but I don't see the discount on it (at $23.97) any better than what it usually is. Many other $39.95 titles are discounted to $21.97.

How old are you? She bought you 32 at one time? Can somebody say "spoiled?"

Edit: Wait, you are almost 30 years old? Good grief.

I picked up

die Ehe der Maria Braun is a very good film, (I'd consider buying it if it were sold individually), but I don't know the other two, and Faßbinder is really hit or miss (at least for me)

Isn't the upcoming Anchor Bay release better than the Criterion one(not to mention cheaper)?

Slacker (Richard Linklater)
Fanny and Alexander (5 Disc) (Ingmar Bergman)
Jules and Jim (Francois Truffaut)
Short Cuts (Robert Altman)
The 39 Steps (Alfred Hitchcock)
My Own Private Idaho (Gus van Sant)
