So, any more %-off this week? Hoping DVD's go to 50% eventually.

TimTucker 01-11-06 09:06 AM

Everything is now 50-70% off.

Anime DVDs still at 50%
Regular DVDs now up to 50%
CDs at 60%

Not sure on the rest, since that's all my sister asked about when she called this morning.

Cameron - do you have a list on Suncoast stores closing? The reason I ask - my girlfriend works at the one in Montgomery, Alabama. The last 2 weeks, they have received NO new releases, not even to cover reservations. I believe the Sam Goody in their mall has the same problem. And no one above their management knows anything (or will not say).. but it sounds like they may be planning to close them. Can you confirm whether these are closing or not?

Mucho thanks.

jkberden 01-11-06 10:10 AM

Anyone have any inside info as to when this place closes? Or how high we can expect the discount to ultimately reach? Thanks.

TimTucker 01-11-06 10:38 AM

Was told the store here was closing in 10 days.

yourlocalcinema 01-11-06 11:11 AM

Yeah, Enfield closes on the 22nd.

DJ_Longfellow 01-11-06 11:14 AM

Whoa...50%! Excellent....time to get my Evil Dead 2:BotD

Cool! There were a couple CDs that have been there every week so far that I've been putting off until it hit 60%.

Wonder if the guitars are now 50%.

dvd182 01-11-06 11:59 AM

My store (St. Cloud, MN) had a sign saying the store was only going to be open 10 more days. Not sure if the sign was new today or if it was put up earlier in the week. Keep that in mind when trying to strategically coordinate visits and % off.

Cameron 01-11-06 12:13 PM

i have no information, and at this point I think everyone is speculating. AFIK there is no master list of who is closing....The only stores I know about are general knowledge to the public, and I only know because I have friends working in those stores. At this point, I do as I have everyday for years....get up, get dressed, go to work, do my best to help people and share some knowledge, count the money, go home, say my prayers, sleep, and do it again.

Fielding Mellish 01-11-06 03:17 PM

Well, I managed to pick up the one remaining 2-disc Batman Begins SE my local store had for half off, and scored an upgrade to Toast 7 for 60% off.

But, man, is that place starting to look picked over. I can’t possibly see how they can keep this going for the next ten days. Over 80% of the store is now yellow-taped off, and the shelves that do remain aren’t very densely stocked at all.

By January 20, it’ll probably be just one redshirt, a cash register, and a 2-VHS set of Space:1999 Vol. 2!

Snowmaker 01-11-06 03:21 PM

Well, I'm off to mine!

C_Fletch 01-11-06 03:23 PM

I picked up a 18" Sin City Hartigan action figure for about $13.00. I also picked up 2 of the AVP sets for about $5.19 and $3.89 respectively. I also found an Ozzy CD used for about $4.00 and a Serenity magazine for $5.00.

Of course now I have about $10.00 in replay dollar certificates. So...back to the store.

Snowmaker 01-11-06 09:06 PM

I picked up a few more CDs and also bought myself the Squire (Fender) guitar/amp combo kit for $99.99. I figure its good enough for someone like myself who doesn't know how to play.

They still had a lot of newer DVDs (Fantastic 4, War of the Worlds, Batman Begins 1-disk, Fever Pitch, etc) that were still $14.00 with the 50% off.

Al Padrino 01-11-06 11:36 PM

With DVDs at 50 percent off now, I decided to drop in, probably for the last time, and see what could be had. Boy, if I had wanted The Ring, Boogeyman, Darkness, or House of Wax, I would've made out like a bandit.

I did wind up getting Possessed (Joan Crawford) for $9 and a pair of CDs that I had written off as gone the last time I was there. All of the used CDs had been trasferred from the bins to racks.

One thing I did find interesting is the massive amounts of Seinfeld S5 & 6 giftsets. Marked down at 50 percent, it comes to $56.

DJ_Longfellow 01-12-06 06:53 AM

My store was picked over. They had ONE Evil Dead BotD 2 left, but the eye didn't scream....I passed. They had Batman Begins and Batman Forever SE, but I passed. I was tempted to get the Batman movies, but I'll get the box set eventually. As for CD's, didn't look much, but they had a buttload of System of a Down - Hypnotize (some were DUAL DISCS also)

You must have been at the Gratiot store. I noticed all the same stuff

MovieExchange 01-15-06 06:15 PM

Everything is now 60-70% off. Books are back, at least they were in the Taylor, Michigan location, and they're all $3, and they all suck.

All DVD's (excluding any box sets) are guaranteed to be no more than $11.99 (which is what I paid for Red Dwarf series 1... can't believe they still had that).

Al Padrino 01-15-06 07:12 PM

Hmm. There really wasn't much left that I wanted. At 50 percent off, I made sure to be open to getting anything that caught my eye that I couldn't get for a better price elsewhere. I'd better stay out, just to ensure I don't try and make myself find something to buy.

profbobo 01-15-06 07:17 PM

I snagged Sopranos S5 and Six Feet Under at 50% off ... slim pickings around the rest of the store, though :( They had some Shure Earbuds I probably should have picked up at 40% off, but oh well.

MovieExchange 01-15-06 09:29 PM

What the hell is this "The Fuccons" series? It's easily the DVD w/ the most copies available at both locations I've visited, and I've never heard of it.

Those are different books that we had above the regular books. They were the ones that were really high up on the walls and used for decoration. They're pretty crappy books, but hey, people were buying them. During this whole thing I've come to the realization that people will buy just about anything.

It's an anime series. And it really scares me. This was actually the last new release we received at the store.

:(

reverie 01-16-06 07:15 AM

I was at the Taylor, MI one also, and they've got next to nothing left. We're going to go back the last day or around there just out of curiousity. Didn't shop there too often after awhile, but still sad to see them go. I think we've spent close to $300 there during this whole thing though!

Snowmaker 01-16-06 09:01 AM

I bought $35 worth of CDs again on Friday. I actually found the remaster of Motley Crue's Theatre of Pain. It pays to look among the other types of CDs, things are all mixed in.

The Gratiot store got stuff from the Ann Arbor store, which already closed I guess.

One thing this sale/closing made me notice is just how much CRAP there is available on DVD.
