The local GS actually had something that I wanted during this sale. Usually the single rack of DVDs is stocked with copies of the US Godzilla for $9.99 and similar overpriced crap. This time I purchased Six Feet Under Seasons 2 and 4 for $24.99 each, and got an X-Box game for free. They had seasons 1 and 3, but they were priced at $34.99 and $54.99 respectively. (I already have S1, but would have gotten it for trading fodder if it was $10 cheaper.) I even asked the clerk to do a pricecheck, and they were marked correctly. Oh well.

All I can say is ...

Where in the hell are these GameStops? I have gotten the occasional deal here and there, but NEVER anything to the calibur of some of these.

Probably depends on the quantity of them around you. I know that where I live, there's only one GS and two (lame) EB Games. Good finds rarely turn up. However, when I'm in Ohio, there are five or six GameStops within half an hour of me. With more stores, there are better finds to be had. I go through my fair share of rubbish, but because there's no shortage of stores, I know there's not a long journey to find something I could use.

It also depends on each GameStop's policy of taking stolen DVD trade-ins. Several of the stores in my area turn a blind eye so there are plenty of mint new releases and box sets to be found.

That's exactly it. Ever since one local GS started turning away obvious stolen merchandise, their stock has dropped. Another one has a manager that will take anything... so I go in there and see at least 3 mint copies each of Revenge of the Sith, Herbie Fully Loaded, Bewitched, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Robots, Cinderella platinum edition, etc.

Gamestop / EB Games in major cities are the best ones. It's sad to say, but the higher the crime rate, the more stuff you're going to find.

You can say the exact same thing for Pawn Shops.

Remembered to hit EB Games at the last minute tonight, walked in 8 minutes before closing time. They get a lot of DVD's there, but the staff is so inept that there's usually a 25% chance that they won't be able to find the DVD when you bring the case up. Tonight they couldn't find Herbie Fully Loaded, Alice Cooper: Brutally Live, and Skeleton Key. What really pissed me off about that was that the Cooper DVD / CD combo was only $4.99 (probably should have been $10.99) and Skeleton Key was only $5.99 (should have been $14.99).

I did end up getting the new WWE Jake "The Snake" Roberts: Pick Your Poison release for $5.99, though.

Too bad it doesn't count for on-line purchases... or does it? Anyone have a code, if so?

This may be true in general, but it hasn't been the case for me. I split time between NYC and L.A., my brother lives in Chicago, and my parents live in an affluent suburb of Philadelphia, and all of my best finds have been when visiting my parents. I think it's possible that the GameStops in larger cities are subject to stricter pawn shop regulation and enforcement, so they have to be more careful about what they take in.

That could be. Around here, the GameStop and EB Games stores that do take stolen merchandise are generally amazingly candid that they accept stolen merchandise. The guy at Gamestop was telling me how good a condition my purchases were in, because they were all traded in by the same person, who brought in multiple copies of each title. "Yeah, like we couldn't tell those were stolen," he said.

Some people have even tried to steal from the library that is located in the mall, and trade the movies to the Gamestop at the other end of the mall.

How do you get 15 percent off? I've only heard of 10. Anyway, I stopped into our lone GS this afternoon and snatched up a few tasty treats:

- A Bug's Life 2-Disc set $12.99
- The Crow $9.99
- Heat SE w/ slipcover Free (was marked at $8.99, clearly for the old edition)

I also saw the two-disc edition of The Abyss and deluxe edition of Easy Rider for $9.99 each. May drop by tomorrow and pick them up. I also saw Cinderella 2 for $9.99, considered it, and then kicked myself when I saw what sort of prices it's fetching on places like eBay. Will pick it up tomorrow if it's still there.

Rocky and Bullwinkle Season 2 - $9.99
Beastie Boys 2 Disc Critierion Set - $12.99
Batman Beyond The Movie - FREE!

2 For $10(manager let me have 3 for $10 since it was B2G1 Free!)

Ong Bak The Thai Warrior - $5.00
Fright Night - $5.00
License To Drive SE - FREE!

I took a look at the Anime secion and they had 75% off all new anime. I picked up these

Ultraman Tiga Collectors Ed Starter Box - $8.25
Fist of The North Star Vol 1 - $6.25
Fist of The North Star Vol 2 - $6.25
Miyazaki's Spirited Away 2 Disc - $6.25
Cowboy Bebop The Movie - $6.25

Factor in the GS Discount Card and it came out to about $65

Not a bad score today!

How's the condition of everyone's discs? Although I've not really had any playing issues with anything purchased from GS, I've noticed that a lot of them show noticeable surface scratches and marks. I love beefing up the library with these sales, but the discs looking so used is a strike against it.

It really depends on the store you go to. Some stores won't take discs that look too scuffed up. Then there's other stores that will take ANYTHING. One of our local stores is like that. The manager will take discs in any condition (when he transferred to a new store, the new manager found a disc with a BB hole in it), and he'll take them without cases (a big no-no). He's a nice guy, I've known him for over 10 years through his time as a Babbages / Funco / Gamestop employee, but his work ethic is shit, and he passes it on to his employees. Thus, when I rarely go in his store, I demand to check the condition of every disc before it's rung up.

On the other hand, another local Gamestop had a great group of employees that would actually check the discs before putting them in the case, so I never felt it necessary to check my movies after I bought from them.

What i noticed is some kind of stuff in the center ring of DVDs sold at Gamestops. It hasn't affected playback but it can be an eye sore.

I always ask them to let me see the discs before I buy. More often than not, they look fine (though some are scratched, I have picked up brand new looking DVDs, too). I shop at several GSs, btw. Also, you can return them if there are any problems for a full refund-- just play them within a week!

So this B2G1 sale is not on-line, right? No code or anything like that?

Just an FYI - I went into Gamestop this morning before work, and when the manager walked by me at the DVD rack she said "it's buy 2 get 1 free, by the way." I smiled and told her I knew, and that this was supposed to be the last day of the sale, correct? She said that she just received an e-mail from corporate this morning telling her to keep the sale going for an indefinite period and they'll send her an e-mail when they want it stopped.

So it goes beyond today, but don't hold off on purchasing things, because it could end at any time.

Hit a couple up today and landed Seinfeld S5 and 6. I'd be holding off to get the gift set, but these will do for now. The Harvey Birdman set that's always around was my free one. Anyone who likes Friends would've loved the one GS I went to; Multiple copies of Friends S1-10 dominated the top shelf.

Plain and simple, I love GameStop. Very loyal customer of theirs. It's always great when you walk into the store and the sales associates mention, "Hey, we got [insert rare DVD @ great price] in".

Oh, and I racked in a small loot the other day...

Star Trek II: $9.99
Star Trek VI: $9.99
Dragonfly: Freebie
