MovieExchange you were at my wife's EB Games. I told her the discs you bought and she said you were in today.

Nice to meet a local DVDtalker

The GS I was at had 5 War of the Worlds and at least 3 Madagascar. The EB in the mall across the street had 20 (I shit you not) of Cinderella, and at least 10 each of Fever Pitch, Interpreter, and a few other recent new films.

I know the stores will deny knowing that the items were stolen, but come on... when someone brings in 5 copies each of 4 movies, and they're all still factory sealed, what more proof do you need?
Oh yeah typically when people bring in discs to trade in they cannot bring in more than 1 title of each/day. However if they have friends with them who also trade in the same discs...

She must be at the Genesee Valley Mall, right? That's a good store there. The one I want to go under is the one on Center Rd. I made a comment to one of the two ladies behind the counter about how bad the Center Rd location is.

And yeah, it's nice to talk to some local folk!

Yeah, a few stores have gone to that. The major exception being the Game Stop across the street from the Valley. The manager there will take in ANYTHING. Multiple copies, discs with no cases, scratched discs, etc. From what other stores have told me, all he cares about is being #1 for volume each year. He's been with the company for over 10 years, so he can pretty much get away with anything.

Coolness

Maybe I'll bump into you when I'm out scrounging for more discs

p.s. If you want some really nice discs and don't mind the drive, the Gamestop in Brighton generally has tons of boxsets (that's where I got my quadrilogy, band of brothers and other cool stuff)

Feel free to scrounge your way to my store sometime! Send me a PM, I'll give you the location and such.

I've never gone out to the Brighton store, but in the early days of my shop when I didn't have a good stock I'd go to the Auburn Hills, Novi and Waterford stores on B2G1F days and get box sets.

Yeah, I changed my preferences to accept PM's after I asked you to PM me. I checked your info, and it said I couldn't send you a PM. I'm assuming you fixed it, so I'm sending one off now (edit - still not letting me send you one).

And yeah, it's on Genesee Rd. Hell with it - sorry to the mods and all if there's an anti-pimping your store rule that this violates.

Did that happen to be you outside of my shop this morning? Someone pulled through, and I had forgotten to turn the sign on the door so it still said closed. By the time I got around the corner to the sidewalk, they were already pulling back onto the street.

Dayum, 3 not only in Michigan, but in the same general area! Guess I'm going to have to wait to post that B2G1F is going until I go over the stuff first!

Actually, Qpid has the advantage, since his wife works for EB and can tell him far in advance.

According to a post on CAG, the after-Christmas sale is B3G1... seems like a bad sign. Anyone have additional information? I hope that this is not a sign of things to come.

Hmmm... that's a bad thing. I know EB rolled out a B3G1F a few months ago, but not Gamestop. I hope that doesn't carry over, because then their prices on used material will go back to sucking.

If that's the case, then GS goes back to being that place I occassionally check out and walk out empty handed. No factor other than greed would account for this. Considering what they give you for DVDs, there's no way they still aren't making a nice profit with the current deal.

Most of the DVDs they have (at least at the stores around here) are garbage anyway. Occasionally I'll find something good, but most of it is like Wal*Mart $5.50 bin stuff or public domain titles.

I don't think it's greed--it's the merger. EB/GS has to make a choice between EB policies and GS policies, and I'm sure it comes down to a number of factors such as which had the more profitable business model, whether it's an actual merger or an acquisition of a subsidiary by a parent company, what the actual terms of the merger/acquisition are, etc. I don't know too much M&A law, but it's not simply a matter of greed. There's certainly a concern for profit maximization, but that's a sine qua non of any corporation.

But yes, I agree. It sucks.

Nah, it's greed. Gamestop isn't just merging with EB, they *bought* EB. They get to pick and choose what of EB's business models to adapt, if any.

I just hope that they don't adapt EB's sticker system. Christ, I'm tired of having to peel 10 stickers off an EB purchase. And you don't just peel them off... you have to use a bottle of goo-gone or a hair dryer. Either way, it's a pain in the ass.

Still, they give you in store credit $1.10 for all those DVDs they sell for $5.99, so they are making a nice profit like Al Padrino said. As for crapiness of the DVDs, it all depends the store you go to. I have found over 400 dvds that have interested me in the stores around my area.

Man, those are the worst stickers of all the places that sell used DVDs. Those yellowish piece of crap stickers are incredibly hard to take out, even with goo gone.

Whenever I get something from EB, I just ask the clerk not to put those stickers on. They just tell me that I can't return it, except for an exchange, if they don't.

I think he means the price stickers. GS's price stickers peel off cleanly, whereas EB's price stickers require GooGone to remove.

Right, but I was talking about the big circular yellow sticker they slap on there that has the return policy information. A couple times, they've almost stuck those on some digipacks I bought, which would've surely ruined the case. It may not be much, but at least it's one less sticker.
