You must be new to the bargains forum. Amazon has a history of letting "price mistakes" run for days and then cancelling orders just as they are scheduled to ship. Some people, myself included, believe that such tactics are essentially loss-leaders without the loss. Amazon denies any such intenions, of course but it has happened enough times over the last few years to be an established pattern at the very least.

I didn't notice it until after I placed my order, and didn't want to place a new order. I had never heard of it, but after reading about it, I actually sent the link to some friends, hoping they might order it, and I could just watch it! :)

Apologies If I offended anyone. I didn't intend for my post to come off as bragging. It's more happiness that I finally hit on one of these deals (which is tentative happiness at best considering Amazon's cancelation history!)

I've edited my post accordingly...

FYI... The Power of Myth is back down to $8.99 again! It's not the Mythos set but the next best thing. Not sure what's going on with Amazon -- prices are all over the place lately...

Did you choose free shipping? One of my orders shipped, but two other orders are still in "processing" until December 21-23, 2004.

By the way, the sale is still on, but the following are now sold out:

Wire in the Blood - The Complete First Season ~ Robson Green
Traffik - Miniseries ~ Alastair Reid
Margaret Cho Collection ~ Margaret Cho
Joseph Campbell - Mythos ~ Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth ~ Joseph Campbell
Dracula ~ Bela Lugosi
Broadway & Hollywood Legends - The Songwriters Collection ~ John Kander

Yes, I always choose the free shipping. To continue my update, I just got the following UPS shipment:

Wire in the Blood - The Complete First Season
Margaret Cho Collection
Dinner For Five - The Complete First Season

Now I just need to get Power of Myth, and I'll have all of my items from this sale.

Brent L 12-14-04 09:37 PM

I suppose I can just post this in this thread:

I just finished watching the first episode of Wire in the Blood, and WOW what a show. If some of you guys didn't pick it up, and if you ever can in the future, trust me on this. It's more than worth a purchase, and is one of the best DVD deals ever for just $8.xx. It's without a doubt one of my favorite blind buys ever.

cynthia 12-14-04 10:47 PM

I received Wire in the Blood today, and just noticed it has an accolade from DVD Talk on the front cover!

<i>"A top notch psychological thriller." </i>- DVD Talk

Brent L 12-14-04 10:48 PM

Haha, I didn't even notice that.

Jah-Wren Ryel 12-14-04 11:01 PM

I think quotes like that are totally meaningless because ANYONE could have posted that here at dvdtalk.com. It could be from an actual review, it could be from some posting by joe sixpack or even an astroturfer.

Brent L 12-14-04 11:04 PM

Well, it makes more sense to put DVDTalk on there instead of John Sinnott.

I paid about $15 for EACH of the first 3 titles. :( I've only viewed the first one so far, but it is indeed a great show. (And they get away with quite a lot on British telly!)

Wannabe 12-16-04 08:18 PM

Does anybody else have orders that haven't shipped yet?

Yes, I have an order with the two Joseph Campbell sets and Dinner for Five that has an expected ship date of Dec. 20th.

Dabaomb 12-16-04 08:45 PM

my order has a shipping estimate date of 12/21/04.

SlingshotBandit 12-17-04 03:48 AM

Mine is the 20th.

victant 12-17-04 04:29 AM

My shipping dates are on the 23 and 24, respectively. I'm still waiting for the Margaret Cho collection, as well as the more expensive version of Mythos. :(

cine 12-17-04 10:04 PM

You're all very lucky. Campbell's Mythos appears to be OOS and my estimated ship date is 2/15!

illennium 12-17-04 10:54 PM

So far I've received The Power of Myth. Wire in the Blood and Dinner for Five have shipped. Girlfight, Cinemania, and Duel are shipping soon (tomorrow). Now I'm just waiting for Mythos.

Huge thanks to the OP. I almost bought both Joseph Campbell sets during the last DDD sale, and almost ordered Wire in the Blood from Amazon.co.uk during my annual R2 binge. Glad I held off on all of these.

sleep 12-19-04 04:14 PM

I ordered on the 9th. Just received an email from amazon:

Due to an unexpected delay from our supplier, it appears that the
following item(s) will not be delivered by December 24.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Joseph Campbell - Mythos"

SlingshotBandit 12-19-04 04:22 PM

Mythos and the Margaret Cho set are both delay; just like the above poster.

substeve 12-19-04 04:52 PM

Mine shipped today (Mythos) -- just got the confirmation email from Amazon :-)

Shap 12-19-04 05:04 PM

Man, I got the Mythos shipping delay e-mail as well.

I ordered Mythos before this deal even hit the Bargain forum. I guess Amazon doesn't put you in any kind of first-in, first-out queue for filling orders. At least this wasn't a Christmas present or anything.
