Criterion : Fanny and Alexander (YMMV)

First post. Trying to give a little back.

I think that this is a price mistake so YMMV.

Went into my local Suncoast tonight and just happened to see the 5-disc Criterion Fanny and Alexander and it was marked at $29.99. Walked out the door with it for $31.49 including tax. Still $7-$8 cheaper than any store listed on DVD Price Search.

The reason I think this is a mistake is that Suncoast is in my experience, never cheaper than anyone else unless it is a mistake. It is listed at $59.99 on their website.

Good Luck.

I got this for 34 and change during the ddd sale so that would be a good deal.
They probably just stickered it with the other 3 disk fanny and alexander criterion set price by mistake

BINGO!

I am pleased to report that this seems to be a system-wide price error. At the Merrillville, Indiana store, they had all three copies priced $29.99.

Now they only have two.

For a first post MScottM, they don't get much better than this. Thanks very much. I knew it would pay to hold off from DDD's exorbitant price, even with 20% off.

Not only is this a system-wide price error, it appears that it may be company-wide as well. In case anyone does not already know, Suncoast, Media Play, and Sam Goody are all part of the same company.

I stopped by Suncoast today while I was at the mall, but they did not have the Fanny and Alexander set.

While I was out, I decided to check Media Play as well. They did have the set and it was marked at $27.99! They were running a special this morning for $3 off any DVD above a certain price, which means that I got the set for $24.99 + tax.

MScottM, thank you very much for posting this deal.

I found and purchased a copy today at a Suncoast store in Carlsbad, CA. I also happened to have a free $3 gift card I almost forgot about, which at least covered the sales tax. They still had one other copy available for anyone interested that lives in the vicinity. And thanks to MScottM for finding the misprice.

I'm tempted to get this, but I don't want to go way out to the mall and Suncoast or Sam Goody not have any copies.

And I am not going to call as I don't want to ruin the deal if they find out.

What's a boy to do!?

I don't think it will ruin the deal if you call. I called first before going to get it. They verified they had them in stock and quoted the price without me even having to ask. Didn't have any problems purchasing it for the $29.99 price, and they even put a copy aside for me at the register until I could get there.

It's 27.99 in the Media Play system. If they don't have it try and do a special order.

D'oh! The closest Media Play is 2 1/2 hours from me. They're too chicken to get in the Chicago market due to advertising costs.

Here in Austin, TX, i just got it tonight for $29.99 at the Suncoast in Barton Creek Mall. There is still one left for anyone interested. Thanks to the original poster for this tip. Made my month since I was kicking myself for not pre-ordering this with STL from Amazon.

I found one at the Suncoast in the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing, NJ that rang up for $29.99. The clerk ended up getting it for me, so I don't know if there are any left, but the misprice is definitely still in the system. Thanks to the OP for the heads-up!

?

By any chance, is anyone willing to pick me up a copy of this? I'm in NJ, if anyone close by doesn't mind picking one up and shipping it to me. I'd pay for the full cost plus shipping, of course. Paypal would work. If anyone is willing to help me out, let me know! Thanks

One left at Suncoast in Burbank (California) Media Center.

Also, be sure to look in the "Foreign" section. I was about to give-up after checking the "Drama" section twice. Luckily noticed the "Foreign" section on the way out.

Thanks very much for the tip! I bought one from Suncoast today, and got another one free - $64 for 2 copies. Makes Xmas shopping, even in the horrors of the American shopping mall, a mostly fun experience. Sort of.

Hope this lasts through the holiday season. MScottM, thanks again.

Esta agupa.

Okay, I'm ignorant. What does YMMV stand for?

Seems like it could be "you must move... something

Got one at the Suncoast in the Westside Pavillion (in West L.A.) last night. If anyone's in the area, there's still one left, in the foreign section (though the one I didn't buy was a bit dinged up -- not terribly so, but more so than the one I got).

Thanks, MScottM! Excellent bargain! I probably wouldn't have bought this set at a higher price...
