Judging from some people's posts in this thread and other threads, it seems like the Bargains forums needs to broken up into two sub-forums:

Moral and ethical bargains
All other bargains

Then no one would have to worry about getting offended or having to defend the means of obtaining such good deals. They could just look in the forum that suits their needs.

Although I have no intent of buying a Kia, i just might have to stop for the DVD!!

Just trying to stir the pot here . . . you can just arbitrarily stay at work an extra half an hour? Sounds like you are milking the clock at that point and your employer may not be too happy about paying for your Shrek DVD. (Devil's Advocate ducks out)

As for Kia, they offer a free movie with a test drive. They don't require you to buy the car or allow them to run a credit check (although they did try that with me when I went for LOTR). The offer is no different than companies offering free samples . . . it simply says "Hey, give us a try!"

I will probably be in the market for a new car in a year to 18 months. And I will probably be looking at a smaller, fuel efficient car. So is it any skin off my back if I have to drive? Not really.

(Insert K.I.A. joke here)

There is absolutely no moral or ethical question here. To imply that there is any moral or ethical question is rediculous. This is an offer for a free DVD for a test drive, one per person or address, open to all U.S. residents 18 or older with a valid driver's license. Period.

I can request as much extra work as I want, my employer would be all to happy to have me work more hours. I would not dream of "milking the clock". Why would you mention "milking the clock". MR Abob Teff(job well done), I don't appreciate your comments on "milking the clock" and feel that it is a personal attack on my character.

I never mentioned the moral or ethical question about test driving a Kia for the sole purpose of getting a free DVD. In fact I hope Kia gets lots of business by handing out free dvds. I don't fault anybody for taking them up on there offer. I said that for me, going to a dealership for the sole purpose of getting a free DVD is crossing the line and absurd. Not a line of morals but a line of I rather dislike going to car dealerships and dealing with car salesman(whom I respect). Absurd because I rather go to the dentist(whom I respect) and have a root canal. Not just any root canal but where the dentist finds 8 different nerves and where it takes 6 hours of continuous work. For me going to a dealership and test driving a car is like going to a dentist office and getting a root canal.

All you people who go on about people making this a "moral" or "ethical" question needs to get over yourselves. I certainly entertain no thoughts of passing judgement upon anyone who takes Kia up on there offer.

Put that in you pipe and smoke it you bunch of Girly-men, oversensitive, Kia test driving, DVD bargain hunting(wait that's me), Dvdtalkers!

I'm aspiker and I sorta approve this message!

Went and tried this at my Kia dealership. There was a huge line of parents there for the free DVD. The dealership decided to do a credit check on everybody before they'd let us test drive, to seperate the serious buyers from those just test driving to get the free DVD.

So I filled out a ton of paperwork and waited several hours only to find out I didn't qualify for the test drive.

It's likely FS. Kia did a similar promotion for LOTR and it's FS.

aspikes, with all the time spent complaining about other people's lives you could have stayed at work a half hour later (unless you are using work time to complain) went to Kia, stayed in Groucho's line, test drove three different models, complained when they only gave you one certificate, and still have time to make it back home and complain some more.

Point is if you think you are too good for the deal, stay out of the thread.

Tanman, I just gave my $.02. You dont agree with me, then fine. I am not "complaining". I am thankful for the starter of this thread and will post in any thread I see fit. By your standard should everyone who may not agree with a thread "stay out of the thread". Btw, (unless you are using work time to complain), that's a sad statement from a sad person. You Tanman with that statement, tell me more about you than I really wanted to know!

Sorry to the OP for my many post. I am happy for everyone who gets in on this deal. I will however stay away from test driving a Kia for a Shrek dvd.

If you were around to know any better , most dealer know what your there for . If you walk in and say "Im here for the free DVD for test driving you car" they most of the time say "DO you want to buy a car or just get the DVD ?" So , you can do the test drive or not . Alot of sales guys get paid SOMETHING to take you on a test drive , even if you don't purchase a car .
The dealers know it and figure they will not waste the employees time or spend the money on a frivolous test drive if your out for a freebie .
You must remember , Kia is doing the deal to get people INTO the dealers ! Im sure they have worked out a deal with the studios for Shrek and the DVD for them likely costs under $7 .
Find a business that can get a new , never before seen customer in the door for less than $7 .... it does not happen .
IF 25% of the freebies drive a car and end up buying one , KIA makes out and by word of mouth might get more customers !

The entire promotion is a attempt to get people whom are looking to buy a car into the Kia dealerships . They never bargained on the hopes that a free DVD was going to get people to buy a Kia . They more hope that you will buy a Kia rather than a different make of car and hope that if you come and look at thier product and drive it that you may like it more than XXXX motor companies car .

Much like Ford and Chevy offer year end rebates . They want to move a 2004 model before the 2005's get on the lot so they try to get you in the door with "offers" .
To end , I think I just got trolled .

I am only responding to clarify that I meant that you seem to be taking so much time to post in this thread and check it for responses when you claim that your time and effort are worth so much more. I can only presume (perhaps wrongly) that you are taking work time to do it. I should have said (probably you are using work time to complain).

Now lets get back to the deals.

Ouch. Brutal. You go in to take advantage and get a free DVD and find out instead your credit sucks. You don't even have the credit to buy a KIA! That's gotta be the bottom of the automotive food chain - at least since Yugo went out of business.

Lame, absolutely and totally lame. I live in one of the larger markets in the country (Southern California) and this promotion just started...in fact I saw an ad on TV mentioning the Shrek test drive offer last night. But somehow, my local dealer is all out. And he made sure to mention that "everybody else is out too."

What a bunch of crap.

Does anyone have an 800 number in relation to this offer?

In and out in about 30 seconds, very easy free DVD...

There is no reason you should waste your or the salesperons time... As you both have better things to do with it...

I'd call and check to see if they have forms before going to save time.

I was just playing devil's advocate! I'm sorry that you took it that way. I guess your employer is a bit different than most that I have worked for . . . they either absolutely don't allow overtime or they try to mandate it.

Job well done? My name? Could you be one of the few who figured it out?!

Nope...gotten other dvds from kia and other promos...always same as you get in store and I've never had a problem exchanging them.

And let me make this perfectly clear. There is nothing morally or ethically wrong with going to the dealership and taking advantage of the offer. They fully expect this and if it was NOT a profitable way to attract sales they would NOT be doing it.

It's called ADVERTISING. It keeps the cars name out there and when the time comes when you start to think about buying a new car hopefully some of the people will remember and return.

I've always been upfront, told them I was looking but not in the immediate market for a car and that their promotion bought me in. Most times I don't even do the drive and they sign the testdrive coupons or give the gift out, particularly if it's a national promotion. Some local promos by dealers may be more restrictive, but I've never had a problem morally with doing it.

So all you God like members who think your morals are better then everyone elses should get down off your pedistals now.

Oh, and P.S. Working an extra hour and a half doesn't doe me and probably a lot of other people who don't work at McD's a lot of good since I'm salary. 10hour, 100 hours...same paycheck.

I went to Kia once and did a test drive. I can't remember if it was a DVD or Amazon gift certificate. Maybe I never got it!

Anyone remember the past deals?

From what I can recall I did one for the LOTR DVD. I got Fullscreen. Did you keep a copy of the Test Drive form? They usually have a phone to call for status. I did this one the other week...hope it comes soon!

It's been at least one year since I did it.
