You gotta watch some of those blockbuster employees. Intentionally, or just out of laziness I've gotten screwed three times this past week. Trading in around 40 dvd's and some XBOX games got me close to $400, in which the employee told me as he was checking them in "as long as the dvd is in their system, I'll get $8 for them". Great, long receipt printed out, amount sounded good, I signed. Later, going over all the dvd's on the receipt, I found out I only got $6 for around 10 of them! Then when I went in to get my deserved money, I picked up a couple pre-viewed on thier 2 for 20 deal. Supposedly got my money back for the trade-ins and then they charged my account for the 2 for 20 dvds. Got in the car and they charged me $14.99 a piece for them. ARGGGHH!! Went back in, got my money back, asked if they did special orders. I asked what their price was on a few criterions. The Rules of the Game was $59.99 he said. $10 bucks more that SRP! He also looked a little too eager to make the deal. You think maybe the employee keeps the difference on all these "mistakes"? With all this credit, I advise you to keep an extra eye on the transactions. They don't seem to tell me the amounts of anything, just shove a receipt in front of me and have me sign it. Naively, I signed it the first few times not wanting to cause a disturbance with the rather long line forming behind me.

I traded in about 30 DVDs for $248 in credit. So far I've picked up:
Clerks X for 24.99
Animal House: Double Secret Edition for 14.99(good price)
Girl Next Door Unrated(mmmmmm Elisha) for 10
Secret Window for 10
Lord Of The Rings: Return of the King for 10(for Dad)
Rundown for 10
I still have $164 in credit

I'm thinking of picking up Buffy S6, Angel S3 & S4 either online or in store. Anyone know of their in store prices for those sets?

I brought back 3 DVDs that they wouldn't take the first time around because of a few scratches. Fortunately they took them this time around.

"I may be missing something but blockbuster.com says gift cards are only valid in-stores...."

Yea, I checked that out. If you go thru the checkout process there is an option for gift cards. Make sure, when you get your gift card, that it has a pin number under a scratch off part of the card.

I tried having them scan two traded-in box sets, and they came up full price - do you have to buy a box set and a regular PVD to get the 2 for $20? Or possibly only some stores have the pricing error on box sets.

I'm using mine on games at Game Rush. I've already paid for 4 new games coming out in the next few weeks and have $375 left for more stuff.

Didn't know we could use gift cards online. I may have to transfer some money on to one.

Had about 164 dollars in credit and decided to just suck it up and spend it on new releases. Got Farenheit 9/11, Alladin, and Eternal Sunshine for 21.99 each. Ouch. Picked up season 4 of South Park though for 26.99 because it had the wrong sticker on it. Went in today and got Independence Day and Day after Tomorrow for 24.99 for the pair, and I now have about 20 bucks left. Not too bad considering the junk I traded in.

I've bought a bunch of boxsets, special editions and PVDs. I still have $160 left. I've tried to have them special order things at two different stores and was told that they don't they don't do that anymore. Nobody here seems to have had trouble. I haven't yet figured out a way to use a vlauecard on the website, so I'll just keep looking for criterions and other things that might be somewhat comparably priced to other stores. I may pick up a Nintendo DS when that arrives.

I have a few more I'm going to take in soon to get $232+ more in credit. After that, I'll have right at $300 or so.

I've only picked up Shawshank, Goodfellas, and Capturing the Friedmans so far.

I'm only gonna pick up PVD's during their sales (e.g. 3 for $25 or buy 2 get 1 free).

I'll also capitalize on their misprices.

Possibly get some boxsets if they aren't much more expensive than I can get elsewhere.

I hope you have a responsible adult look over the paperwork before you enter into any major financial transactions.

Racked up a 216 dollar credit by unloading those with little/no rewatch factor.

Picked Up:
Godfather Collection
Psycho
Field of Dreams 2-Disc
Blazing Saddles SE
Lost Boys 2-Disc

Still have a little bit left to spend. I might take a second pass through my collection--not because I enjoy the crappy, overpriced selection at Blockbuster--but because I enjoyed "thinning the herd".

I'm saving most of my credit for Black Friday, just in case. I did pick up an OOP Disney DVD that was an obvious customer trade-in, and I'm going back to pick up their last remaining new copy of A Bug's Life: CE 2-disc, since it's the same price at DDD.

What, if anything, has Blockbuster ever done on previous Black Fridays? I cannot recall a single promotion from the past few years!

Funny and all, but you shouldn't have to watch three seperate employees like a hawk to make sure they do their job. Especially considering during the trade-ins as he was checking them in, he would tell me $8 for each one and after ten, he was like"how about I just tell if you if it will cost something different." Needless to say, he didn't tell me. Let me guess, that was you.

rvd1083 - THe specific type of gift card that BBV gives you for trade in credit is good at any Blockbuter location, B&M only. I was told I would be unable to use the Value card online and you can't use gift cards to buy gift cards that would work online. Basically, I'm going to have to wait it out on DVD's that I want that are priced somewhat in accordance with other stores (Disney, Box sets, etc..)

I originally did the deal for the games but can't use the card online and all the Blockbusters near me (Bay Area) do not have a GameRush store.

Couldn't you use the value card to buy one of the gift cards that you can use online?

from their own collections (some members have over 1000 DVDs; personally, I have 840 DVDs and I'm hoping to get that down to under 800 and preferably under 750), pawn shops, etc.

I've traded in 15 so far for $120 credit. I overpaid them about $6 for Aladdin as opposed to cash out of my pocket at WalMart. I also already was able to preorder and fully pay for Looney Toons 2 missprice at $29.99. I still have $64 left.
