I went yesterday and ordered one too, but the manager wouldn't let me put any money down because he didn't want to have to refund me if they weren't able to get it from the distributor. Yeah, whatever, I think he just didn't want to bother ringing me up.
Anyway, it's on order. Wish me luck.

Thanks speedy, we dvd junkies gotta stick together!
Incidentally, I just got a call that my order was made today and I should have the set 'in 1 to 2 weeks'. They confirmed that the price was 29.99... we'll see.

Well, after all these inspiring stories in the thread, I decided to give it a try. The clerk made me open a Blockbuster account (I didn't previously have one) to place the order, which was sort of annoying and time-consuming, but then she was able to look up SCTV and the price was still $29.99.
But then she told me it would take six to eight weeks (!!!) to get it in, and she wanted me to pay the full $29.99 before she ordered it. (The clerk claimed too many people had ordered TV box sets in the past, and then not picked them up because they found them somewhere else cheaper. I'm not surprised, given how much Blockbuster sells non-mispriced DVDs for...) She also said something like four people had ordered the SCTV set when it came out, and none of the sets had come in yet.
Anyhow, when she was ringing up the special order, the computer gave her the option of charging me just $5, rather than the full price. I chose that option, because I didn't want Blockbuster to have my $30 for two months without me having the DVDs. (A week or two or three I wouldn't have minded, but not two months!)
Anyhow, if it works out, and I actually do get the DVDs for $30 sometime in August or September or whenever, all will be forgiven. In the meantime, though, this all reminds me why I don't go to Blockbuster in the first place...

It took about 3 weeks for my SCTV box set to show up (I think it took a week for them to send in the order), and they didn't have me prepay at all, so I was prepared to walk away if BB had raised the price on me, but I was pleased to only have to pay $29.99 + tax.
Thanks, Blockbuster and dvdtalk!

My blockbuster forgot to order mine, so when I showed up on the day after release day, they placed the order. Less than two weeks later, it was in.
Personally, I would have prepaid the full $30, technically the law is the same whether you put down one penny or the full price, but if you have to argue with a manager about it, having paid in full is a lot stronger position to be in for arguments sake. For the savings off the cheapest retail price, I wouldn't mind giving BBV a couple of months interest on $30, that's about what I did for the Ken Burns set oh so long ago...

just a little heads up.
that bbv is having a employee appreciation week.
that means all purchases are 30% off instead of the usual 20%
stating july 9th.
so if you know some who works there you can get this for less then $25.

Well, I've placed another order at another BBV as the 1st one I ordered from is refusing to even place the order (after accepting my full $).
Their "excuse" was that the set was unavailable from their vendor & he had to go to an "outside source" - upon which he learned that the source was wanting to charge them $89 for it.
I didn't try my normal BBV as I didn't want a repeat of the fiasco with the Voyager set. And, I suspect that any order I put in over there will be scrutinized - at least for a while.
No word yet(either way) from the 2nd store - tho I only ordered it this past Friday.

I had the same problem as thejester. The first (worst) store didn't order it. I went in a full week after it was released and the manager said that they didn't accept orders for DVD's at this store anymore. Placed an order at another store. Will see what happens. Oh, and this time I didn't put any money down.

After 5 weeks of my prepayment, I finally got my order. 3 weeks in I stopped by to check the status, and they couldnt even find my order. A little ruckus back and forth that Friday night led them to call me on Monday saying that it was on backorder and the Manager actually called the distribution center to try to get it quicker. I still think they originally never ordered it, but 2 weeks after I went in, it came in. So for 29.99 + tax, I really cant complain, even if it did ruin one of my Friday nights :-)

At this point, wouldn't it have been better to pay $10 more and get it elsewhere? The set came out a long time ago already.
Isn't their a way to cancel your pre-order?
I got mine for $45 on the street date, and have already viewed it several times over. Definately worth the extra bucks.

I have still had no luck getting this in. I've requested that the manager contact the distributor to see if they can get it faster, but to no avail.
Hope I get this by Christmas.

Got a call earlier today from the BBV that I ordered from on July 2nd - my movie was in!!!
Went down, paid the difference of $24.99+tax($ minus deposit) and walked out a happy customer.
I thought I might be in trouble went the clerk had to get help(which turned out to be the manager) in making the delivery - apparently he'd never done it before tonight. But, much to my surprise(& relief), the manager walked him thru the proper procedure with no problems(or "bells" going off).
Now, to go back to the 1st BBV & get my CC credited. Don't think I'll rock the boat when I do so as not to tip/tick them off & ruin it for any others who might want to get in on this.
PS. No call to a DM required THIS time.

Well, I finally got it. When they rang it back up, they somehow managed to credit my account for $5, so I come out a little better.
Thanks to the original poster.
