:p pttth.... "Pre-Order Start 3/30"

Shannon Nutt 03-29-04 03:35 PM

So it's going up for prebooks tomorrow and Lucasfilm hasn't released specs on what will be on the DVDs (particularly bonus features) yet? How are customers supposed to make a prebook decision without knowing what we will (and won't) be getting?

dbmottle 03-29-04 03:44 PM

What will the price be? I would assume the same as the Indy trilogy.

Most customers probably don't care at this point. They've already waited five years.

I hope so......of course....it wouldn't hurt if Eckerds decides to have the lowest price in town once again. :D

This is one of those few statements that works well both as a serious comment and a sarcastic one. ;)

jough 03-29-04 04:26 PM

I'd expect the MSRP to be around $70. Didn't the Indy set not have an MSRP, just an MAP?

Anyway, I'd expect this to be around $50 for pre-orders, $45 at most stores come release day, with an aggressive loss-leader store making nice price matches for us at around $35.

Who the hell is going to preorder this when we don't know what the in-store promotions are going to be yet? This is the perfect title to add some extra bonus gift to sweeten the deal - I mean, this set is probably the most anticipated DVD EVER.

So I'm hoping for a decent bonus DVD from Best Buy on this one, more akin to the Bond Girls are Forever disc than the ten minute thing they packaged with Indy.

sooksun 03-29-04 09:06 PM

Amazon has it up for $41.99.

That's exactly what they're counting on for the pre-orders... it won't matter what bonuses, extras, etc are offered on/with the Trilogy... people will buy it BECAUSE it's the most anticipated DVD ever! I'd pay $42.00 at Amazon.com for it now (That's only $14 each... less than the standard $14.99 - $17.99 new release price). I hardly ever watch the special features anyway, I just want the movies!

rossi46 03-29-04 11:45 PM

At 40% off, its going to be tough for a B&M to beat amazon.com's price. I'm thinking about using a STL and pre-ordering this week. If the specs are released and I decide I don't want to buy I would be able to cancel right up to the day it gets shipped out, right?

etrnlevol 03-30-04 12:16 AM

Rossi,

Yes, you can cancel right up to the moment that it says "Items Shipping Soon". Once it is in that stage, you can't cancel. It won't be at that stage for awhile though.

AJR 03-30-04 12:26 AM

I pre-ordered it a couple of hours ago and sent a STL email to anyone who was on the Star Wars Trilogy STL list at http://www.dvdtalk.com/stl . If I'm allowed to do STL after the fact, let me know and I will send one to whoever wants it!

I paid the $2.98 shipping to get it quicker when it's released! I did the Super Saver shipping with IJ Trilogy and it took about 8-10 days to get it! I would have paid 7.75% tax in the store if I bought it local, so I still saved even if BB or CC has it for $41.99 + tax. Anyway, $44.97 out the door with 3-5 day shipping! STL would make it $4.20 less than that!

jough 03-30-04 12:34 AM

It seems to depend on from where they ship the order - if it comes out of Kentucky, then no tax - if it comes from PA or even Wilmington, DE I get charged tax. I have to call them to have it removed.

Free shipping, though.

silentbob007 03-30-04 08:52 AM

I too am in the preorder from Amazon with STL/ maybe cancel later camp ... $37 shipped is hard to resist.

rossi46 03-30-04 09:45 AM

jough - if you want, cancel that order and I'll STL when I pre-order later today. :)

Can I get in on any love?
[email protected]

Shannon Nutt 03-30-04 11:36 AM

Have you guys seen the synopsis that Lucas has released for the three films? (Check it out on DVD Empire or Buy.com)
Granted, we've all seen these films, but Lucasfilm's synopsis gives away EVERY MAJOR plot point in the movies! I haven't seen spolilers this bad since FOX stuck the statue of liberty scene on the front of their Planet of the Apes box set!

majorjoe23 03-30-04 11:50 AM

If we're sharing love here, love me up, baby. [email protected]

teddydogg 03-30-04 12:01 PM

Don't we have a thread just for share the love?????!

Like right here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/stl

Qui-Gon John 03-31-04 06:49 AM

With STL at Amazon, this would only be $37.79. Anyone think we'll see it for less as release date approaches?

Well, Indiana Jones was $25 after rebate at FYE, so it's possible that they'll do the same thing for Star Wars.

I'm waiting for the Second Release of these DVDs. God only knows they're coming.

jeditictac 03-31-04 01:05 PM

i haven't kept myself up to date. is this release with the classic or is it the special edition version of the classic?

as for me, i'm not preordering. i imagine there will be some great in-store deals. and if not i'm pretty sure lucas will release a big box set with all 6 dvds since he seems to love releasing multiple versions that have just a little bit more than the prior one (afterall he knows many fans will end up buying each version so more money to him i guess).

Special editions.

Neither.

It's yet another new version.

dvdjoy 03-31-04 02:44 PM

nope, it's the latter ... these are the same SE's that were released on laserdisc & VHS in '97 I believe.

Shannon Nutt 03-31-04 02:50 PM

No these are definitely special editions of the special editions.

jough 03-31-04 03:21 PM

You believe incorrectly.

You can read more about the new changes in the One and Only Star Wars thread.

These are not the 97 SEs nor the Original Classics - they'll be the 2004 Star Wars Trilogy - the first time we'll be seeing these new versions.

Wannabe 03-31-04 07:19 PM

Assuming that Best Buy has a bonus disc, will it be worth it to pay an extra $10-$15 for it? Anyone know if it will happen? What would be on it?

jough 03-31-04 08:49 PM

Well, we don't know what promotions are going to be offered with this title, but I'd expect most retailers to be competing VERY fiercely on this title.

davidvp 03-31-04 09:37 PM

Star Wars Trilogy at Deep Discount DVD $ 61.27
Where did this price come from? It's not even close to DDD's real, and very low, price point (of $41.88). ........

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=FXD022341

Erik68 03-31-04 09:41 PM

It was probably the price they had it listed for when he added the link. They most likely lowered it after seeeing everyone else was so low.

As for what versions these will be, they will be the SE's with improved special effects (some didn't come off as good as they should have). A re-done Jabba/Han scene. As well as Han once again shooting first (Lucas did listen to something people complained about).

That's about all the changes I have heard about.

Wannabe 03-31-04 09:46 PM

Even though Paramount distributed Indiana Jones, I think Fox will more or less follow the same pricing model. Therefore, I don't think it will be priced much lower than 34.99 at Costco or any other place. I'll be preordering with STL at Amazon and maybe I'll pick up other copies depending on what the giveaway is. From a marketing perspective, I can't wait to see how the set is promoted.

Say what? Since when? I live in PA and Amazon has never charged me sales tax. I just placed an order for Star Wars (with STL). No tax added.

Costco has it 42.99!
