It seems to depend on from where they ship the order - if it comes out of Kentucky, then no tax - if it comes from PA or even Wilmington, DE I get charged tax.

Free shipping, though.

$41.99 - 10% STL = $37.79

Did you have a $1.30 credit somehow?

Here's the link to DVD Talk's STL System
http://www.dvdtalk.com/stl/

Here's the info on Share The Love:

Please use this link when buying from Amazon as it gives 'credit' to DVD Talk: DVDTalk Amazon link

To use the DVD Talk Share The Love System go to:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/stl/ you can sign up and connect with other people to share the love.

Here are the rules and description of "Share the Love" for those who don't know...

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Save your friends--and yourself--some money
Each time you place an order with us, we'll offer you the chance to e-mail your friends and give them an additional 10% off the items you bought. (You select which items, of course.) The e-mail we send will explain the discounts and how to apply them. If anyone makes a purchase within a week, you'll get a credit to use the next time you shop!

How much will my credit be worth?
Your credit will equal the dollar amount of your friends' 10% discount. Let's say you bought a CD for $15 and decided to Share the Love on that purchase. Your friends would be able to buy the same CD for $13.50, and you'd get $1.50 (the difference) off your next purchase at Amazon.com.

Credit limits
You are eligible to receive one credit per item shared

Applying credit on future purchases
After you Share the Love, we'll give you a link to your personal Share the Love page. From there, you can apply the credit you received. You can also see and buy the items your friends have shared with you. You have 30 days after you receive credit to apply it to your account.

Eligible items
Only books, music, DVDs, and videos purchased at Amazon.com are eligible for this offer. Items from our other retail stores or from Amazon Marketplace, Auctions, and zShops are not eligible, nor are items purchased from our international or partner sites.

Amazon Friends
Amazon Friends allows you to create a private community to share product opinions, recommendations, and discounts with your friends and family. When you send a discount to friends, we'll add them to your list of Amazon Friends. To learn more about Amazon Friends, click the Friends & Favorites link in the blue bar on our home page.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again, don't forget to always use this link when buying from Amazon DVDTalk Amazon link

That's exactly why I never pre-order (and rarely buy period) online any more.

For most releases I want, the release week price at BB, CC etc. are as good or better than the online sites, sometimes have extra crap bundled on, and I get instant gratification and don't have to worry about it getting f'ed up in shipping.

jough 04-01-04 03:57 PM

Share The Love.

It's an Amazon discount pyramid scheme.

LasVegasMichael 04-01-04 04:09 PM

Much like Indy, I will await the in store promos for this one. Even though the bonus disc for Indy was small potatoes, it is still something, and a nice little addition from BB B&M.

More then likely, I will pick this up at wither BB B&M or Costco.

I am really tempted to get the STL deal, i already got the email for it, just not sure if I should. I really dont see BM stores selling for less, a $39.99 deal is most likely I think

rossi46 04-01-04 11:32 PM

Since there's all kinds of STL discussion here, let me ask a question. I pre-ordered using STL, then sent love to a bunch of people. Let's say BB has some insane sale and a bonus disc, so I want to cancel my pre-order from amazon.

If I do that (a) do the people who used the discount I sent them lose the 10% off, and (b) do I still get the credit in the amount of the discount ($4.19) once their order ships?

TIA!

jeditictac 04-02-04 07:31 AM

i'm glad it's a se of the se cause some of the scenes i really didn't like

(a) I'm not an expert in STL but my experience has been that if the person using the STL discount has already placed an order and you cancel your order, it has no impact on the referred person's order. So, in this case, I would wait at least one week before canceling the original order. By that time each person that received the STL discount from your order would have either placed an order or the discount would have expired.

(b) As to whether you would still get credit for a referred person placing an STL order if you had canceled your order, I rather doubt it.

No one should lose their discount if you decide to cancel your order, but don't expect to receive or earn $4.19 in credit unless your order is completed. Also you cannot earn credit if your initial purchase was made with a STL discount.

Argh! Now I know why haven't gotten credit for half the crap I shared.

Mark_vdH 04-02-04 01:19 PM

Seems like Amazon.ca has the best price:

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...462115-1479512

CAD 48.99, or only 43.99 (USD 33,50) with one of the coupons.

EDIT: Looking at the list price, it seems like a misprice, so order while you can....

(a) They would only lose the discount if they haven't placed their order yet. Once they use the discount it's their's, no matter what you do. So lizard is right that you should wait a week before canceling your order so that you don't screw the people you sent a discount to.

(b)No. You don't get a credit until both your order and the order of the STL recepient ships. And you can't get both a credit and a STL discount on the item.

El-Kabong 04-02-04 05:26 PM

The BEST deal thusfar is: wait and get the version with the bonus disc from Best Buy (and you know it's coming). Sell that disc on E-Bay for 10-20 bucks (the average price being somwhere in the middle).

Tada! Star Wars for only 25 bucks!

I could not have stated it better.

Besides, ordering from Amazon or DDD means you will NOT get it on release day.

DrGerbil 04-02-04 06:01 PM

Best deal: Not buy it at all and refuse to ever buy it unless the original cut is included. I am a huge fan and I guarantee that if no one buys it, it would have a huge effect. It's just that all people care about are these superficial monikers... Special Edition Box set, yeah, well, Lucas can take his Special Edition Box set and shove it up his almighty ass. I will never watch these films on DVD in these bastardized versions...

With the least expensive shipping to Colorado (and the coupon), the cost in USD is about $41. I'd rather get it from Amazon.com w/ STL.

Not a pyramid scheme. In a pyramid scheme the person on top reaps the most benefits. There's nothing like that here. You get 10% off your purchase and the person who sent you the discount gets the dollar amount you saved as a credit for future purchases. Pretty simple. Certainly not a scam.

I agree with the instant gratification, but I figure that if I can get it for $38 shipped and a possibility of earning an additional $4 credit, it's worth ordering. At worst, if there is a better deal later, I can cancel my order.

In this case the person on top is Amazon.com.

You're right, though - there's no accumulative earnings from the people that YOU offered the deal to - so it's more like a ziggurat scheme than a pyramid scheme.

Still, it's nothing more than a referral incentive.

misbitski 04-04-04 03:29 AM

I'm a big fan of STL. Amazon makes it pretty easy to cancel a pre-order. Why not just use STL now, and. if a better deal comes along a week or two before the release date, just cancel? Sometimes it's a toss up between DDD and Amazon, but they're no tax and free shipping are kind of hard to beat. If you can wait a week or two for the DVD, it's a good deal.

Erik68 04-04-04 07:14 AM

It's up for pre-order at Best Buy, price is $44.99. There is no mention of a special Best Buy only disc.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....&type=category

mhmurray 04-04-04 10:42 AM

$37.79 out the door with STL. I doubt if this can be beat online or B&M on release date.

Unfortunatley I live in North Dakota, so I have to pay tax. Pretty crappy.

not yet at least. still over 5 months away.

When trying to order this DVD set tonight from Amazon.ca, I get the following from the site, "THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. If you would like to purchase this title, we recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available."

Its Sales Rank is Number 1# too....

zettler 04-14-04 02:48 PM

Amazing! Now you can order it at Amazon.ca (sales rand 7) BUT its price is now $69.99 CANADIAN....

A far cry from the price last week when it could have been had for under $40 AMERICAN!

Yesterday, it was SOLD OUT and it hasn't even been released yet...
