I picked up the following a few days ago:

Mothman Prophecies (9.99)
Black Hawk Down (9.99)
Spy Game (9.99)- came resealed with all the stickers on the plastic which I thought was pretty cool.

There were a few more that I would've picked up but were either too expensive or came in one of those Blockbuster cases.

my local blockbuster had band of brothers discs 2-5, but not 1. so i ask the manager if he could sell me a rental copy, but he says no. i buy discs 2-5 anyways (4 discs total) and grab death to smoochy and shallow hal (as the free pv dvds) for a total of $43.04.

after much searching, i couldn't find disc 1 anywhere, so i return discs 2-5, and lo and behold, the BB employee refunds me the $43.04 without questions. so i got death to smoochy and shallow hal for free. if i was smarter i would've grabbed 2 better movies. btw, this was the BB in riverside, ca.

I bought band of brothers 3-6 tonight $20+, hoping that I can find 1 and 2. dude at the checkout said one was hard to get!
I am going to have to search the area to find some more or wait to monday till they get the new pv list.

worse come to worse I might need some dvdtalk brothers to help me find them!

I also need disc one of Band of Brothers. In case this helps, the manager told me to rent it and then say I lost it, and I would be charged $9.99. As I'm a cheapskate, I'm waiting awhile to see if they ever put disc one out so I can get it under $7.00.

they'll only charge you 9.99? that's kinda surprising...would've expected it to be much higher

Yep I had to drive back and forth looking for disc 1 of band of brothers. I called 3 blockbusters before one had finally had it. I then went to the wrong one so I had to drive all the way to the other town to get it. All this before stopping at two previous ones and finding out that they were selling it for $9.99 with the buy 2 get 1 free deal. So is this a conspiracy? Why is it that it's so hard to find disc 1? Or does everybody just buy disc 1 and not the whole set? Also 1 blockbuster was selling just disc 5 by itself and did not include disc 6, while the other did. Talk about inconsistency! Okay going to stop yappin now.

Got Discs 4-6 of Band of Brothers not too long ago. I doubt I'll find the rest, but I'll take my chances. I also got Eight Legged Freaks as my 3rd title...

Today, I got:

Lovely and Amazing
Enigma
Tart

$30 something. Not bad...

Keep looking folks. I was able to get the following (albeit with several phone calls and multiple trips to various stores) :

Sopranos 3rd Season Discs 2, 3 & 4 $20

Band of Brothers Discs 1 & 5/6 and Eight Legged Freaks $25

Band of Brothers Discs 2, 3 & 4 $20

Sopranos 3rd Season Disc 1 $10

No nice boxes (or tin in the case of Band of Brothers) but Sopranos for $30 and BoB for $38.50 works for me.

A.

The reason that it is so hard to find disc one is because it is still being rented. The "pull list" that a store gets is generated based on the number of rentals that a disc has,a dn stock on hand. The reason that you aren't seeing a lot of disc 1 is for the fact that people are renting that more often than the other disc, since it is the first one, the first one you rent to watcht he series. Be patient, they will be put out, just keep checking back. I called tonight and they are holding a Band of Brothers complete discs 1-6 and The Sopranos Season 3 complete set discs 1-4 so I can pick it up tomorrow. That will be 2 complete sets, and 1 free movie for roughly $64. Not bad at all, especially since I will buy $50 and get $5 free. Another good thing about calling ahead is that if you ask, they won't put the stickers on the cases.
Also I was able to pick up Ice Age previously viewed tonight, I also used the rent it like it buy it to get it for $9.99. I got Ice Age, Harts War, and Monters Inc. ( also using rent it buy it like it) for $20 and some change.

Also don't forget that tomorrow is the last day for buy $50 get $5 free in BBV GC.

Any chance of Ken Burn's Civil War set ever being available as a PVD? I'm guessing pretty much slim and none if they only have 1 copy, correct?

Can anyone tell me if any BBVs in Southern California (LA area, up to Santa Barbara / down to San Diego) or in the Boston area have Monsoon Wedding available? I've checked a number, but each one has said that it's not previously viewed yet and they don't know when it will be. I know some people have gotten the movie already, so either I'm in the wrong area or I'm just unlucky.

Yeah, I got Monsoon Wedding about 3 weeks ago at a Blockbuster in Studio City. It was the only one they had, though, and I haven't seen it since.

I got several DVD's. Two of which were Collateral Damage and Panic Room. Both marked at $14.99

As I always do, I checked each and every DVD they had in stock. Sure enough, I found one DVD of each title mistakenly marked at $9.99. They rang up at $14.99, but the lady did a price adjustment.

It takes a little time, but worth it.

hey skrulnik...when you say you get the free cases that they transfer the DVDs from, are you talkin about when they just get the new releases in? because my BBV i think still uses the original cases for the displays, because most of those still had the inserts and a variety of cases, not all one type...so i'm guessing i can't get those type of cases if they don't transfer them?

The cases that I get are the ones that they pull off of the shelves from the displays when they Previously view a movie. Some time the cases are dual layer, sometines single, sometimes game cases, and even other times thay have inserts.

thanks again.

If anyone can get Band of Brothers discs 1-3, can you pick them up for me? If at all possible, give me an email. Thanks!

Help!

I just bought Y Tu Mama Tambien.

I made sure that it was the unrated box, checked the disc for scratches, etc, but never checked the actual disc to make sure that it really is the unrated version.

Can anyone give me a quick difference between the unrated and the "Blockbuster" version of this movie? I want to make sure I didn't get the sanitized version.

Thanks!

Crap. The UPC on the box is 1003846; the disc is 1003999. Must be the edited version. Argh.

Band Of Brothers

I just got really lucky. I went to the Blockbuster in Randolph, NJ and they had Band Of Brothers set volumes 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the previewed section all for $9.99. I then asked the manager if she could get me volume 2 from the shelf and she said she isn't supposed to, but she did anyway. I also got Jason X. My boss gave me a $25 AMEX Giftcheck so the total spent out of pocket for the whole Band of Brothers set plus Jason X dvd was a whopping $22.45. Not bad.

I do have one question.....is there anyway I can buy the original tin to put the set in?

For those who missed the post, Hollywood Video now has 2 for $20 and they have widescreen versions of the following:

YaYa Sisterhood
Scooby Doo
Insomnia
Mr Deeds

All of which, BB has pan&scam PVD only. HV didn't have anything else beyond BB (well also all those 4 come in real keepcases no snappers, but also no inserts either...).
