Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Funny how the early 90's became the era of the Lee/Liefeld/McFarlane copycats and the mid/late 90's evolved into Joe Madueira/Manga copycats.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

When he was young, my kid watched Ben 10 and Cartoon Network's stuff religiously...especially Ben 10.

I see lots of Live Action Big Budget film and TV versions updates of Ben 10 and other properties like it, once his generation gets in charge of Hollywood. Just like our generation did with Transformers, The A-Team, G,I. Joe, Cobra Kai, etc.

Man, those look like total Blondie ripoffs, except they have a kid.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I actually have a copy of this one, although in somewhat lesser condition than the one pictured. I remember buying it at the local comic shop for $25 when I was a teenager (a lot of money to me at the time!), I think it's one of the rarer pre-code horror comics.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I wondered if Blondie was still being produced and looked it up online.

It is, and it's kind of weird reading it... Blondie and Dagwood still look like they're from the 1940s or 1950s, but using iPads and watching flatscreen tvs.

I have always liked Blondie, and a few years ago purchased two books of their early (1930) strips. My comments from the Classic/retro comic strips thread is here (assuming you're interested ...)

I first heard of him in a book about Myron Fass's magazine empire including Eerie Publications, publisher of b&w horror comics like Weird (fascinating book BTW). Fass also had a short-lived color comic line called M.F. Enterprises that published this gem, among other comics.

I think that Captain Marvel was mentioned in Kitchen Sink's World's Worst Comics Awards miniseries from 1990. Don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing that this series came out pre-Image.

^ This series is worth tracking down if you have any interest in the subject matter.

You just cost me 10 bucks on eBay for the pair. I enjoy stuff like this for the comic history of them alone.

I will likely do the same. I love reading about comics history, especially the more obscure stuff.

I'm guessing it was part of the black and white boom/bust of the 1980s, since it looks like someone tried to make an AI knock-off of The Uncanny X-Men of that time.

Looks like it came out in 1986, so I'd guess it was a part of the short-lived b&w explosion and looks as hideous as most of them did (hence the bust).
