Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Dug this up from my Transformers collection. Picked this up in Tokyo about 15 to 16 years ago. I think I paid $30 to 35 at the time. Imagine what a pain this was to carry around on the subway and carry on.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Do you have a lot of nostalgia for the SNOW C.A.T.? I'm on the fence on this one. It's huge with lots of play features, and I loved the original. But it also takes up a ton of space and is nowhere near as iconic as, say, the HISS or even something like the HAVOC. I kind of regret not backing the HISS because I thought it was too big, made it up with the Dragonfly, and then had to pass on the recently released Rattler because even with folded wings it was just too much space.

It also feels like they needed to justify the cost so they added a bunch of stuff (like the kitchenette) instead of it being something cool that was "worth" the price and they added stuff just makes it cooler.

On a side note, the Loyal Subjects M.A.S.K. revival goes up on BBTS tomorrow, can't wait. Here are the samples from NY TF a few months ago:

I don't have much nostalgia for the SNOW C.A.T. itself but I do like Joe and Cobra dudes in snow attire thanks to the animated movie which I have mixed opinions on but is a big part of my Joe fandom. I haven't crossed the line of getting more than one version of any character yet (at least until the Metal Suit Cobra Commander is out there) but would probably buy duplicates of almost any character in cool snow gear and the SNOW C.A.T. will go well with any of them. Actually thinking of getting new shelving for my classifieds or possibly a new bookshelf to let the classifieds take over the bookshelf they already take up a few shelves of and may do a whole snow section. Have 3 of the cobra snow troopers and a arctic B.A.T. to go along with the C.A.T. if I get it.

TBH the only Joe vehicles I would say I have real nostalgia for are the Cobra Flight Pods, Cobra CLAW, and Sgt Slaughter's Triple T Tank. The first two from the show and the last from the toy. I think the only original GI Joe vehicles I ever got were the T Tank and some lame swamp glider. I have a couple classified flight pods and will get at least one CLAW when it comes out. Also have a few other classified vehicles now but got them for how they fit into what I have and like now more than when I was younger. Wish I had gotten the HISS too but the labs was run just before/possibly as I was getting into collecting them and was too late.

Those M.A.S.K toys look great! Not getting into a new line but if they get around to rereleasing the one below from the second series I'd definitely pick one up. It was the only M.A.S.K. toy I ever had but it got a TON of play

So the Haslab Snow C.A.T. still hasnt funded after a week and a half. I know I might be part of the problem for holding out but there's no way I would back it until it reaches tier 3 or looks to be a lock to. It's a lot of money even with all of the tiers unlocked. Without them all unlocked though this is a very easy pass.

I think it'll reach all three tiers but it will limp it's way there compared to the rest.

I mean I like the Snow C.A.T., but don't have room for it, it's not as iconic as the HISS, and unlike the HISS I'd kinda rather they didn't upsize it. I mean it's cool that it acts as a sort of troop carrier, but to turn it into that mode you basically sacrifice some of the defining features of the vehicle (the HISS added bulk but it's not like you have to remove the turret and back to store troops). So that entire feature is pretty much lost on me (unless you really want a couple of wrenches and viewing an engine block).

The reward tiers create a sort of prisoner's dilemma, especially with more marginal items.

Its flopping cause its the snow cat. At best it should be a regular release and not a HasLab. Theres so many other vehicles that should get that treatment instead of the snow cat.

Thanks for posting!

The updated color looks cool but don't know how I feel about it. Day 1 purchase regardless.

Well there are like 3 hours left and it FINALLY crossed all three tiers.

I expect at least a few were waiting for that to happen before backing...

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

With just over an hour left Im still deciding.

ETA: Decided against it If I had shelf space readily available I’d have probably pulled the trigger but I really don’t and already have to figure out where i’m going to display my WWF LJNs now that they’re coming back and i’m going to collect the new ones

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

I posted this in the thread for Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming FRANKENSTEIN movie, but it might work here as well. He’s auctioning off some of this celebrated collection of pop culture stuff, largely because of the California fires creeping ever closer to his house each time they happen. You can tell how hard it is for him let things go and, just like a lot of us I’m sure, sometimes there’s a story behind even the most seemingly insignificant little thing in a collection thats every bit as important as the item itself:

I went to a local collector show here in the LA area yesterday and managed to get a G1 Blaster for $40. This is probably the 40th anniversary replica. I paid $40 cash for it. I had one as a kid, bust lost it years ago. Always thought this was a cool edition.

It's not the 40th reissue. That one comes with Steeljaw. It's probably the 2020 edition.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Right, you can find it fairly easily for around 45 and up (like this 3rd party seller at Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Transform...ls-3/518556967) but still a decent deal and a cool fine, particularly for you.

When I was a kid, before Transformers, a kid in school had Microchange Radi Cassette Robo (blue version) which was the basis of Blaster. It had this mini radio in the form of a cassette so that it could actually play the radio into the speakers on the legs. It made me love Blaster, and the fact that they created new tapes for him for the movie so he could battle Soundwave was the icing on the cake.

I had Blaster as a kid only because finding Soundwave was nigh impossible from what I remember.

Soundwave was superior though (even if he was smaller). Still one of the best original microchange toys, not just the tapes but the weapon storage as batteries was really inspired (even if you had to remove the missile)

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

I really need to get a good Shockwave one of these days. Have a Starscream and a full set of Constructicons. Shockwave is the only other Transformer I really love.

Good pick up though. Blaster is cool I'm just not the biggest Transformers guy. If I was he'd be in the top or close to top tier of Autobots for me.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Speaking of Constructicons, I just finished my Studio Series 86 Devastator. I've never owned a complete combiner before, so I have no idea how he measures up to any other iterations, but I think he's pretty cool.

He is really cool, I finally built mine last weekend too. Perfect size next to SS Megatron as well. I don't really want to get yet another set of seekers but the upcoming Thundercracker looks great as well, and they've really been hitting it out of the park with the remakes of the minibots (just got Sea Spray)
