Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Spent the most I ever have on a single action figure this week at just over $100 with shipping and tax for the Cobra Commander that came with the HISS Pulse set. Have come close to that mark a few times as I collect WWF LJNs as well and they can be pricy but never went over the three digit mark.

Used my birthday and tax returns as an excuse. Can’t wait for it to get here!

ETA: Actually I might have spent over $100 on the comic con exclusive chuckles figure in the end since I messed up and first paid for a guaranteed option to order it and then the figure itself but i’m not looking back at how much that cost me.

Ha, as big of a fan as you are I'd figure you'd go for a second or backup. It does look great... vac metal face and the gloves (no hooded face still though):

That makes me think of an interesting question to ask, what's the most you folks have spent on a single action figure and what was it? I collect (although not actively anymore these days) vintage action figures, and about 15 years ago I spent by far my most on one figure: nearly $1000 for a vintage boxed Mexican large size Han Solo figure. They are really hard to find, and when one came up I had to jump on it, but had to scramble to sell other lesser figures in my collection to help pay for it and justify the purchase (I've always tried to make my toy hobby pay for itself). I did feel guilty spending that much money on one toy.

The VAC metal face does look cool but it’s not different enough for me to pick it up. Maybe if it becomes discounted below $20 at some point. Will definitely get the power suit Cobra Commander whenever they make that though. It was the only version of CC I had as a kid as I was too young for the first few years of the series.

Since we seem to have so many Joe fans here in this thread, you might want to check out Skybound's kickstarter for the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero compendium hardcovers. This is the complete comic book run from the 1980s. $350 gets you all four plus some swag.

What turns me off a little on this is having to choose between Joe or Cobra sets (the sets have the same content). Otherwise incredible run.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

I have actually thought about buying this, but is a book that size even readable?! Like, on a practical scale, what is it like to even read it?!

Not hard at all. If you're an evil terrorist bent on world domination, you pick Cobra. True patriots and freedom lovers everywhere ride with G.I. Joe.

I was all set to support the Kickstarter until I read in the FAQ that paper back versions will be available at retail in the fall. That's good enough for me.

Suggested retail for the set once it's released to the public will be $240-250 though with discounts should be slightly cheaper. I'm personally not a big fan however of softcover compendiums.

It's $300 for the hardcovers and the paperbacks will probably be available for like $35 each. I'll take that math any day.

I don't think those paperbacks will be 35 each, unless they split them up to more than three (which they should because who wants a paperback omnibus that large?

Typical discount from that publisher on InstockTrades is like 25% at best, this isn't being published by Marvel or DC. Suggested retail is supposedly $65.

There's also the hope Marvel reacquires the rights at some point and publishes them as omnibuses, but that could be another 4-5 year wait. The Marvel insider has hinted about that possibility.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

The new Transformers vol. 1 is currently listed at 42% off on Instocktrades. But even if the new GI Joe's are $50 each, that's still far cheaper than the $300 for the Kickstarter. What am I missing here?

Shouldn't the GI Joe vs Transformers miniseries be in the second volume instead of the fourth? Or does it take place outside of the regular GI Joe continuity?

I haven't read that mini-series since the 1980s, I can't remember. Surprisingly affordable to pick up a complete set of that mini considering the properties involved.

Re: The Official Toys and Collectibles Thread

Just got back from the Frank and Son Collectible show here in Southern California. It’s located about 30 minutes away from me. This place is open 3 days per week.

Here is my collectibles haul plus a few movies. The Batmobile, Ken and Ryu were each $25 plus tax.
