Hopefully those get added before the end. [Annuals excluded seems to be the norm] |
Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
I swear they put a sale on this particular Bendis run of Avengers every few months.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
Has anyone ever had a problem with Comixology 'losing' books in your owned collection and 'letting' you buy them again? During the big Marvel sale there were a few issues here and there that I swear I had bought before (like middle issues in large runs of previous sales) but were showing as not owned. And then today there are two of the Avengers Fear Itself tie-in books showing as not owned; but I swear that I bought every Fear Itself book during the 2for1.

I haven't noticed anything but seemingly you could search e-mail receipts to confirm item purchases. I have noticed that sometimes when I click "add title" on Comixology to place something in my basket it doesn't end up there so that's another possibility.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
Yet another Transformers sale. Not even looking at it, I have more Transformers books than I knew existed from Humble Bundles.
15 different collections roughly 50% off, ends 3/17/15. https://www.comixology.com/Discover-...Sale/page/5679 Another weeklong DC sale, this time 500 Flash books. Yes, that's five hundred different DC Flash or Flash-ish books at $.99 each. I need to pick up some overtime. https://www.comixology.com/Flash-500-Sale/page/5678 |

What do people recommend from this sale? Is JLA: Year One an excellent series? I did some research and found some recommended storylines but curious what others say.
More recommendations later, but one thing I noticed was that the three annuals of the new series were included. No idea if they're any good, but those large annuals are often not included in these sales so I snatched them up in my first run thru the lists. |
Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
DC's digital pricing is confusing, some issues seem to have a base price of $0.99 mid-series and between higher priced titles but then others are priced $1.99. Not that I'm complaining on cheaper books.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is absolutely essential reading. It can be a little daunting for DC newbs, but it features Barry Allen's greatest moment ever and thus should be read by anyone interested in the Flash. The Flash v.2 (starring Wally West) is almost all great. Just about anything by Mark Waid or Geoff Johns is a winner. I have only read parts of Waid's run, but his Return of Barry Allen arc is absolutely essential. The entire Johns run is one of my favorite things ever. The first half of it (#164 to #200) featured Scott Kolins on pencils and is superior to the back half (#201 to #225) which gets slightly mired in all of the DC events, but it's all good. After Johns leaves, the series goes down the crapper immediately and is eventually canceled and replaced by The Flash: Fastest Man Alive which starred Bart Allen. I only read the first handful of issues of that series before I stopped buying comics completely for about 7 or 8 years, but what I read wasn't good. I've heard the second half of the series is better and the ending is important to the overall mythology (although in the New 52 era I guess none of it matters), but it wouldn't be the first thing I chose. Anything after that series, I have no idea. Volume 2 was resurrected for a little bit by Mark Waid before Geoff Johns brought back Barry Allen and tried to reinvigorate the franchise like he had done with Green Lantern a few years previous. I haven't heard anything that suggests any of it is up to the level of either guys' earlier work on v.2, but I've never read any of it myself. I used this sale to pick up all of the latter era Johns material (Rebirth, Final Crisis: Rogue's Revenge, Blackest Night, v.3, Flashpoint). I'm worried that a lot of it won't make sense without an overall working knowledge of DC circa 2007 to 2011, but there's no way in hell I'm going down that rabbit hole. I was all-in on Infinite Crisis, but once that was over I didn't have the energy (or the money) to keep up with DC's big events. |

Crap, a few months late to save me much $, but Humble Bundle has all of Bloom County/Opus/Outland for a week.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
I may have to go for that.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)
Yeah, the Waid and Johns first runs are good (the Waid/'Ringo run is still my favorite, even though it goes a little off the deep end in the speed force stuff).
After that, Wally has kids, they age, he disappears, Bart takes over, then editorial pulls the plug on Bart in the worst way. Then editorial/Johns pulls the plug on Wally. Then Barry and Iris somehow completely de-age, and John's last run, which I was counting on to be epic, basically treads water because Flashpoint completely destroyed whatever he was setting up. |
