I read your first post and I thought "Well, if he didn't use Google, odds are he was one of the jillions of people who went with Captain America." Then I checked the roster and saw your actual answer.

At least Sergeant Slaughter did make it into a comic, so he's not an incorrect answer.

I say yes, since the question was "name a character." It's still Nick Fury in both cases.

EDIT: Although it could be argued that neither is really his "superhero" name!

Re: Comic Book Sheep is here!

God damn it to hell. I only sporadically read comics these days, but just finished going through everything on the Civil War dvd. Somehow Captain America completely eluded me as having a rank in his name and I could only think of Fury. Oh well.

That's a good point. Allright, you've convinced me. maxfisher and brianluvdvd get 2 points each for matching on Nick Fury

Then again, neither is Sgt. Slaughter or Sgt. Rock. I'm still counting them -- the people who picked those answers have already been punished enough for not picking Superman Captain America.

Question 11: Name a comic set somewhere other than Earth

If you think about it, "Not Earth" is so much larger than "Earth."

Question 12: Other than Marvel, DC, Image, or Dark Horse, name a company that published comics in the 80s or 90s

So many choices. Do you remember all of these companies?

All that to say, if this had been a reverse sheep game I would have answered Quasar because I didn't think there'd be anybody who would have remembered it. Boy did that comic suck.

Re: Comic Book Sheep is here!

Darnit, does nobody read Guardians of the Galaxy? It's got Rocket Raccoon, the old Guardians of the Galaxy, Adam Warlock, Quasar, a living tree, a former member of the Micronauts, Star Lord, and Cosmo the talking dog, with their base as the decapitated head of a Celestial.

About 2 minutes after I submitted my answer, though, I knew I should've put GL Corps. Didn't even think of Star Wars, let alone Bone.

Re: Comic Book Sheep is here!

I liked Quasar. Mark Gruenwald was one of those under-rated writers who, if he's remembered at all these days, is really only remembered for Saquadron Supreme and the fact that he died so young. But his Quasar and Captain America (especially the first 3 or 4 years of his run) were usually pretty good.

(Not always, though. One time, he turned Captain America into a werewolf. That was weird).

Valiant was actually pretty mainstream back in the day. Before they imploded, Valiant -- along with the four I exempted from the question -- were considered the Big Five publishers.

Re: Comic Book Sheep is here!

I actually got into Valiant on the ground floor with MAGNUS: ROBOT FIGHTER #1 in 1990. I loved the retro art and storyline, and basically collected everything Valiant had to offer afterwards. Even scored a "Gold" Archer & Armstrong #0 for sending them a Valiant comics database I built for them.

Two years later, the company EXPLODED and many of my back issues were worth dozens of dollars apiece, some well over $100. In the summer of 1993, at the height of the speculator boom, I sold the entire collection for over $400 and spent 2 amazing weeks on vacation in Chicago. Was totally worth it =) Especially considering how the company, quality-wise, completely fell to pieces after Shooter was shoved out.

Re: Comic Book Sheep is here!

Should have figured that most people here are younger and would have gone Valiant. when I think of the big companies outside of DC/Marvel, my first thoughts are still Comico, Eclipse, and First.

Valiant was big because they somehow became the hot collectible publisher and a few month old back issues were going for $20-50. Once they started ramped up production to meet the new demand I think everybody quickly lost interest.

Edit: I forgot about the whole Shooter thing as well.

Me too. To be honest, I had completely forgotten about Valiant when I wrote the question.

Question 13: Name a comic that was published in black and white (black and white reprints don't count)

This one even had "Black and White" in the title, but nobody gave it as an answer.
