Wow, amazon.com has really been horrible their pricing of these Omnibuses lately. I still kick myself for not locking in on the John Byrne FF Vol 2 when it was first listed for about sixty bucks.

Kinda neither:

Q) When will my order be charged?

A) If you place an order only containing collectibles (statue, busts, or action figures), your order will be charged once all items have arrived and are being readied for shipment.

If you place an order containing collectibles and books or books only, your order will be charged in the middle of the month following the order placement.

DCBS reserves the right to charge very large orders before the Diamond due date.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

In the Hachette catalog it said a Muppets omnibus is coming from Marvel next year featuring all the Boom Roger Langridge issues. I saw some people complaining about this selection online, but I'm pretty excited about it. I've heard great things about his work on the series.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

I have never bought any omnibus, but I am considering it. How heavy are they? That Roger Stern Spidey is 1200 pages. I imagine that sucker has to be pretty heavy. Personally, I don't like to sit and read with a book lying on a table. I like to actually hold the book. Is that possible with these huge omnibuses (omnibi?)? I have the hardcover Harry Potter books, and the latter ones are 800-900 pages. They can get slightly uncomfortable to hold, but not so much that I need to lie them down.

An omnibus needs to be read on a table or desk. It's not an item you could comfortably read in bed or hold up yourself for extended periods.

Thanks. I guess they aren't for me then.

I'm considering my third (?) Marvel omni now too.

This thread inspired me to finally open one of mine last night, Man-Thing.

It is quite the monstrosity in size. I read for awhile in bed, using a spare pillow to support the one side, but yes, a desk or table would be better.

It's the first Omnibus I've actually opened, and I was impressed. With the fairly easy to find 50% off pricing I'll definitely be buying many more. It's going to be nice to have quality reprints of multiple series; although I'm going to need to buy better quality bookcases to support these things.

I'm sort of disappointed that buying this particular one didn't really 'save' me much money, as Man-Thing is my childhood favorite Marvel character and I own almost every appearance reprinted in this book anyway. It will be fun to read it all again though, without having to open ~50 individual bags. Future Omnis will be for titles that I don't own all the floppies, or couldn't afford them all even if I wanted.

Would you say that it's a giant sized Man-Thing?

Spoiler:

As far as an Omnibus to get, the one I would recommend to most people, across the board, would be Walt Simonson's Thor.

It has one of the best runs of any superhero contained in one volume, with a re-coloring that improves the already great art and the whole thing is just that much better contained in one giant volume.

Now, it's out of print, but it is one of the most printed of Marvel's Omnibuses, so it should still be relatively easy to find.

So yeah, if you have to buy ONE Omnibus, I'd say this one:

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see

I miss those Marvel Giant-Sized and DC 100-page Super Spectaculars. I've been buying up as many as I can when I see them cheap enough.

I just searched my Amazon history and see that I bought the John Byrne Fantastic Four Omnibus when Amazon had the pre-order at 60% off. If I had waited it would be even cheaper (third party new) now. Still unopened. Doh!

Yeah, I love owning the Omniboo/Absolutes but rarely read them, especially since some of my prime comic-reading time is on vacation. I've started the Absolute New Frontier a couple times and not finished it yet.

If you go on eBay, a number of poor-selling Marvel omnibuses are occasionally going for 60% to 80% off list price. Stuff like the Evolutionary War Omnibus and Atlantis Attacks Omnibus. Even some of the mediocre X-Men releases have dipped this low in price. The more popular ones never get below 45% off.

Go search on eBay. I was including shipping in the discounted price. The less desirable Marvel Omnibuses seem to frequently get blown out by comic book dealers.

How badly do you want it?

http://www.cheapgraphicnovels.com/x-men-inferno-hc.html

Not discounted at all from a site that usually discounts at least 45%.

Looks like when something goes OOP they jack up the price.

Absolute Promethea vol. 1 is $179.99. (Cover price was $99.99.)

For Promethea, if you can be patient, they are still working on the Immateria edition, which will include all 32 issues in a landscape format (i.e. twice as wide as a normal book, so that all of the two-page spreads will be on one page each). It sounds like it will be gorgeous. They are even doing the poster issue (where you could separate the pages and lay them out into a single giant 32-page long sequence) as a fold-out. This book will be huge, but amazing. It was originally due next month; it got delayed, but it is still in the pipeline as far as I know. MSRP $125, but you'll be able to get it cheaper via the usual sources.
