Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I've been noticing some odd pricing trends on Amazon for the more expensive hardcovers and omnibuses. They'll occasionally drop prices on them for a few hours in the middle of the afternoon to very generous discounts (anywhere from 45%-60%). It's not a blanket discount, you have to track individual books and play the waiting game. Yesterday they briefly dropped the Blackest Night Omnibus to $75.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Is there any difference between a pack of a 100 Silver Age bags for comics and a 100 pack of Golden Age bags for comics? Size difference or whatever?

one of the workers at the comic book shop was sort of making a big fuss about the whole thing.

To me, comic book bags look the same whether Its a pack of "Golden Age" or "Silver Age" bags for comics.

Golden age bags, silver age bags, and current bags are all different sizes.

The golden age bags are a big bigger than silver age bags because the comics of the golden age were bigger.

Golden Age = 7 5/8" x 10 1/2"
Silver Age = 7 1/4" x 10 1/2"
Current/Modern = 7" x 10 1/2"

It makes a difference. Current size won't fit any book before 1970, and honestly, they will be to tight even for current modern books. Silver age is the perfect one for bothe Silver age and modern age books. Golden age bags may be too lose for silver and modern age books and won't protect them as much cause the book would move inside the bag and board. Also, what brand are they selling? I ask because different brands fit books differently.

Found The 4 Walking Dead Compendiums at Ollies for 9.99. Was almost tempted to buy the Walking Dead coloring books, before figuring out I could save money coloring inside the Compendiums.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

the "brand" for the silver age bags that the comic book shop worker got for me is Ultra Pro.

The Golden Age bags looked like they were the same size anyway in my opinion

Ultra Pro is great for trading cards but my experience with their comic book care supplies has been pretty negative. Bags are too thin and flimsy, boards yellow quickly and their boxes aren't sturdy enough. That's why I use almost exclusively BCW brand.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

i bought a pack of golden age or silver age bags for comic books before and never had a problem with them.

as for comic book long/short boxes i always buy BCW and those are good too.

Im just a little annoyed at the comic book shop worker suggesting I get the Silver age bags instead of Golden Age.

Whatever. comic book bags are bags. THeyre all the same anyway

Silver Age and Golden Age bags are good for thicker trade paperbacks or other perfect-bound or hardcover editions.

Was looking for Part 4 but appears my Ollie's had been picked clean of them. There were only two of #1 and one of #2. The rest of the area where they were was barren which leads me to believe that probably had some #4s there. It sucks but hopefully that means some liquidated ones will show up other places.

They did have a GIANT book: Captain America Vibranium Edition for $40. The fucker was HEAVY! I carried it around for a bit and was going to buy it but decided against it. I already have a few of those huge books and while very cool to see the artwork so large, they usually just sit unopened. If they had had the WD #4 Compendium, I probably would have still bought it just for the heck of it but I figured since I couldn't make up my mind, it was a sign to leave it on the shelf.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I went out of town all day today and went to the thrift store and bought two ziploc bags of old Disney comics from the 1960s to 1977. 50 cents each for a bag full of the old comics.

Old junk mostly of Ritchie Rich, Lil Audrey, a Casper comic, an issue of Jetsons and the rest are stuff of Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny and the rest are Donald Duck stuff.

50 cents each for a ziploc bag full of old comics not bad but stuff I really dont need but at least theyre in good shape

Never heard of the old Little Audrey comic book until today. Id rather have a random old issue of Lil Lulu from one of those ziploc grab bags of old comics. But ill settle for the Donald Duck stuff and the Jetsons and whatever else.

theyre in great shape and all but junk i really shouldnt have bought but oh well

You need to check those books because some of them have started to go up in value, specially if they were released with the Whitman logo.

Thanks for the heads up. This is actually the first omnibus I've bought in years, so I'm blaming you if I fall back into it.

I've noticed that Amazon has been quietly dropping the price on some of their DC omnibuses to historic lows. This Batman by Paul Dini omnibus is down to $64 as one example, which is nearly 50% off.

I'm tempted by the Supersons omnibus, but anything else you noticed is pretty cheap?
