Some of the deaths and actions are just incredibly shocking, yet in the context of the world totally understandable. Yikes, what a trip.

What are the single issues up to now? Can anyone spoiler for me what's been happening for them now in the recent issues?
Up to issue #79 I think. 1 issue a month (give or take a week).

As for a plot without giving too much detail...

Spoiler:
Basically 7 or 8 issues with what is left of our survivors trying to adapt to a small community that managed to hole itself away in a tiny utopia while they slowly tease a giant shit-storm of death approaching. Think of the Alamo here...

I ordered HC 5 Sunday and despite a predicted delivery date of Wednesday, it arrived today. It's another zombie night!

Thanks, for some reason I thought there was a lot more beyond that. I guess not, they must be getting the trades out really quickly.

I'm just curious when I can expect to see HC book #7. Would June or July '11 sound about right?
New issues come out once a month, TPBs around twice a year, hardcovers around once a year.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

At the end of issue 48

Spoiler:
one of the other tribe's women, Holly, I think, turns on the governor [EDIT: The name is actually Lilly]. Were we supposed to know who she is, or was she just a random new character?

We met her once before as someone who was sympathetic to our group... wasn't she a nurse with the doctor? (Its been awhile for me).

Just finished HC #5 this morning then freaked myself out when I heard a thump outside the front door

Hmm, it's possible. I just scanned through the main Woodbury sequences in the compendium and didn't turn anything up but I could have missed something. I could google it but it's not worth the risk of turning up a future spoiler. Mostly just curious.

I don't recall her being introduced before either.

13 is $6.99 today

I just ordered TPBs 11-13. While I liked HC5, I saved about $3 buying TPB 11-12 instead of HC6. I worried slightly about having a consistent look on the shelf but I had to buy TPB 13 anyway (cause I don't want to wait for HC7).

Got these today, a day earlier than scheduled!

It's going to be a shock when the well runs dry.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

I finished TPB 13 today, and now the long wait begins. Such a good series to keep me interested 78 issues in.

Ah, I couldn't resist reading the wikipedia article and found out what happens in the next issue or two (79-80). Nothing I wouldn't have expected, though.

And I'm supposed to wait for June to get my TPB 14? Are you trying to force me to go the floppy route?

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

How is the weekly experiment faring? Is it over already? On the CGS podcast, Brian Hibbs said that it wasn't selling at all, mainly because there are already so many ways to read the series (softcover collections, hardcover collections, omnibus collections, etc.)

I can't remember the last time a comic made me gasp, but issue 83 definitely did it for me.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

Agreed, #83 was a big HOLY SHIT issue. I suppose there's some hope that that "thing" will resolve itself into a positive outcome, but it doesn't look good. (Trying not to spoil anything here...)

I would assume that the weekly reprint series is going to bomb. Nobody has really done those kinds of reprints since the 80s; the trade paperback market has likely supplanted any kind of demand such reprints would fill. I think the last one was Marvel's Classic X-Men (which, for the first three or so years of its run contained new story pages and back-up stories).

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

I can't imagine the weekly series succeeding unless they put it in places for impulse buyers who wouldn't know that it's available in other formats (grocery stores? I don't think an AMC zombie series is that mainstream). And if you're trying to build up a weekly habit, it doesn't help to have a series that only lasts six episodes.

Jesus fucking christ, this comic is relentless and unforgiving. It's like they're just thinking of the worst way to torture Rick possible

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

I got the Walking Dead Compendium One paperback (HUGE paperback!) from Amazon for $28.99 w/ free shipping. I'm not sure If I should read the whole thing and spoil the next season of the AMC series for me, or if I should watch the next season first and spoil the book??? (Although, I hear from the complaints of book fans that the show plays pretty fast and loose with being faithful to the comic story, so it may not matter).

Also, season one DVD of the series is only $9.99 now.

I don't think it'll ruin anything. It'd be like holding off watching the GI.Joe cartoon as to not spoil the next live action movie; the two are recognizable as being the same property... but that's about it. Aside from the first episode, the Walking Dead TV show only hits about 20% of the book's marks.

Re: The Walking Dead (and other zombie discussion)

I read the whole compendium and a bunch of the TPBs then watched the first season. There wasn't a ton of overlap in the first season and you're going to get a bit of spoilage either way, so you might as well enjoy the book that you have instead of waiting till the fall or whenever.
