I'm glad to see that Y: TLM has such a great fanbase. I picked the book up randomly years ago - I always picked up Vertigo #1s because my store actually had a return policy. Loved it, and actually remembered BKV from Green Lantern - Circle of Fire. Actually met him on many occaisions when I was living in San Diego. Great guy.

Speaking of BKV, did anyone pick up the first issue of the Doctor Strange mini this week? The last Doc Strange mini I picked up was the one by JMS a couple years ago, and man did it suck. It could have been that I'm just not a big fan of the character, which is why I didn't pick up the first issue this week. If it's good, I may wait for the trade.

Yeah, Dr Strange is a character who I have absolutely no care in the world to ever read, but since BKV was doing it, I picked it up and as usual, he fails to disappoint. Just wish DC could get him on one of their more mainstream titles (maybe he could save Nightwing, the Flash, or Supergirl) as I just cant read enough of what he puts out.

I don't check into this thread that often, mostly b/c every time I do it's just about on-line comic book shopping & reading trades instead of monthlies, to things as a true comic book fan & retailer I can't stand to hear. All you people that just wait for trades, especially on new series, you are only hurting the quality comics you enjoy. A book needs to succeed in monthly sales, ESPECIALLY a new book, for it to continue.
That said, I know this a mostly mainstream superhero crowd here, but I cannot stress enough how awesome Wasteland is. DO NOT wait for the trade, run out & buy the first 3 issues now, if your retailer doesn't have it in stock, tell him to order it, Diamond still has all 3 issues available. It is a must read for fans of Walking Dead or a well structured post-apocalyptic story with it's own built in mythology.

Also, being 1 of the biggest Brubaker fans there is, I was actually quite dissapointed with Criminal. It's certainly the genre Bru does best but it just reaked of redundancy & felt very similar to Sleeper. The story structre, the whole bar for villains. I'm certainly still going to read it, & the art was brilliant as always for Phillips, but I was just a bit let down, it didn't feel very fresh or new. I'm can't get enough of his Daredevil though, especially coming off of what I feel was 1 of the single worst run in modern comics with Bendis, Bru has made it possibly Marve's best title in a short amount of time.

Jack of Fables 3 - I just like the whimsical qualities of the setting, and the devil-may-care attitude of Jack.
Uncle Sam 3 - I liked the intro of the Black Condor and how they start integrating him again with the gang. The appearance of the SHADE counter-group was not expected, but pretty much by-the-numbers in comic book terms.
52 - Doc Magnus is on the run, and Luthor is now convinced that Supernova isn't Kon-el. Whether it proves true or not, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Detective Comics - another 1-shot story, but it didn't do much for me.
Y The Last Man 50 - continues to chug along, but always surprising us with more revelations from the doctor's past.
Supergirl and the Legion - a fluffy issue of romance and insecurities. I'm not sure if this title is for me anymore.
Action - a good end to the Auctioneer storyline and puts Superman back on the "to be trusted" list for now.

Anyone read THE ASTONISHING ADVENTURES OF FANBOY AND GOTH GIRL? It's a new novel by Barry Lyga. It's fantastic. Any and all comic fans who grew up reading comics and/or have ever felt like a geek in high school will love this novel.

Sorry for getting off track, but can anyone recoomend one of the following Comic Databases?
Collectorz Comic Database: http://www.collectorz.com/comic/
Visual Rat Pack: http://www.vpackrat.com/comicv2.0.htm
ComicBase Express: http://www.comicbase.com/ComicBase_Express.asp
ComicBase looks good, but no search by artist or writer??? Seems silly to me.

The Oath was great! The story was serious, but still managed to be fun. And the art...geez the art. Marcos could draw every book under the sun and I wouldn't complain. The hyper realistic artists are good, but something about this semi-throwback style that Marcos, Cooke, and others use that really does it for me.
And the Around Comics podcast is my favorite now as well. It was Comic Geek Speak for the longest time, but the Around Comics guys really have a great relaxed feel. It helps that they record in a comic shop, because they can just grab people who are there to chime in on the shows, and the "peanut gallery" adds to the energy of the show. Not to mention Tom Katers cracks me up. They just had two great interviews, one with Greg Rucka and the other with John Byrne that are both worth listening to.

Ok I had to break my "lurker mode" in this muthah of a thread, if anyone is reading Teen Titans can you point me to where I can find out more about Zatara(Zatana’s cousin with powers born during the Crisis), Girl Martian Manhunter
, and Bombshell (Female Captain Atom)? Where did these characters come from? Are the TT's in an alternative universe?
Girl Martian Manhunter is particularly disturbing because they make it seems as if she's been around for awhile. If so then why did J'ONN think he was alone? ...pre-new series.
Nevermind: I found them on wiki. But I'm still weirded out....
They're all characters that apparently joined TT for short time between the crisis and OYL.

Is Teen Titans still good? I really enjoyed the first 20-something issues, a little less so of the buildup to IC, but the OYL stuff threw me for such a loop that I stopped reading. I didn't really give the book a fair shake since it was understandable to be a little disoriented after such a major change, but I just ran out of patience. Not to mention, how much I loved the dynamic of the book before hand, so I was not happy to see the team changed so much.

I just finished the TPB of the first 6 issues of Rocketo. I had read most of the individual issues as they came out, but I found it hard to follow from month to month. Reading a bunch all at once is much better. Now on to read issues 7-12 (which I've been buying as they come out but not reading). It's a great book. Sort of "Indiana Jones meets Thundar the Barbarian." Lots of fun. The art takes a bit to get used to -- it sort of reminds me of a less "accessible" Darwyn Cooke -- but it is very good art.
Anyway, Rocketo is highly recommended.
