I got bored and decided to read a bunch of the OYL comics. All the OYL issues I had read before were terrible, but I've liked everything since. I just finished part 5 of the Batman story. One thing I don't get is why explosions in the DCU do absolutely no damage, but over at Marvel, we're supposed to assume that all the New Warriors got wiped out by an explosion. I understand that that particular explosion was supposed to be a really big one. It just seems like 2 extremes. The big event that's supposed to start the biggest event in Marvel history is just some random explosion that we don't even really see the effects of. Over in the Batman comics the last few months, the Joker, Jason Todd, Batman, and Harvey Dent have all been at ground zero of an explosion. None of them have any powers, yet none of them suffered any injuries from these explosions.

Now DC creates a gay superhero and it's suddenly big deal, and this is DC were talking about.

You forgot to mention two of the most obvious ones I can think of - Apollo and The Midnigher from The Authority. They've been around for at least 6 years now, and Wildstorm is owned by DC.

Oh man.. Peter potentially outing himself is simply an awsome idea that will make Civil war be very very very VERY impacting.
I just hope there's a whole issue around Jameson reaction to that press conference.

I just don't think that Marvel has the balls to do something that would alter a major character's life so radically. This isn't something like the death of a character, who can easily be brought back on a writer's whim and semi-plausible excuse.

How many times has Tony Stark tossed around the whole "I'm not iron man" statement around? Look at what happened with Daredevil. I think they have the balls to do it.. but just how long they could keep it that way is the real question.
Especially with Joe Q stating he wanted to seperate M.J and Peter to give us the old school love triangle Peter we all grew up on..

The thing that concerns me however is that were either going to be getting
A) The lesbian sex sales batwoman, with the pinups and it basicly being soft core porn.
B)The cliche and corny "girl power!" story. Like were going to get a scene in the book where a white irish character has a problem with her being a lesbian and she proves them wrong and is twice the as any man. Or something stupid like that.

Yeah, but keeping a secret identity to protect his loved ones has always been as much a part of Peter's personal code as "with great power..." I think it's more important to him than it is to Stark or Murdock.
And the big thing, as you mentioned and as I alluded to, is how long they can keep it that way. As I said, this isn't like killing off a character and bringing them back with a half-ass explanation. Revealing a secret identity in a press conference (when all that's supposed to be done is that the heros reveal their identity to the government), is sorta hard to write your way out of.

Ok, I finally started reading Captain Atom:Armageddon and Battle for Bludhaven and so far so good. Now, are they still going to make Captain Atom a critical character in all this Crisis stuff?

Very light week this week. So far I've read 52 (still going strong) and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
I think that I'm dropping FNSM. Peter David's one of my favorite authors, but this is easily some of his worst work, the plots are too simplified and almost child-like. Despite starting out as part of the big Spider-crossover and despite Peter wearing the Tony Stark spider-suit, this series feels like it is not connected to regular Spider-Man continuity at all.
