i think this is a brilliant idea.
i have the old mad mag cdrom.
almost picked p the old spider-man cd rom but never did.
i jjust wish they would do an update every 12 months as that would make this perfect.

I can't imagine what Spider-Man and X-Men would get like as they splintered off into more and more titles. What would it be like to only be able to read the Amazing Spider-Man issues of Maximum Carnage, for example?
That being said, this is a pretty handy way to get an absurd amount of content for reasonable prices, so I'll probably end up getting Spidey, X-Men, and FF.

Something else to consider is that throughout the 80s, even without the linked format, there were a lot of great Spider-man and X-men stories that weren't told in the pages of Amazing and Uncanny.
My recommendation is to just buy the Marvel Masterworks TPBs. Barnes and Noble offered them for a long time, so i don't know if they still do. I got them for a great price when they were discounted, and the coloring, paper stock, and completeness really make them worthwhile.

The Spidey collection is just $30 this week at Circuit City.
I was gonna pick up vol. 8 of Essential ASM, but I just re-appropriated the funds. Having the letters page, the ads and the Bullpen Bulletins are a ton of fun.

I got the Spidey collection yesterday from CC using in-store pickup and when i got home i find that the seal on the box was broken. Was there supposed to be anything else in the box besides the DVD? It is designed to hold something else in there, but mine only had the DVD. I will be pissed if CC ripped me off.

awesome discussion, thanks.
when these go on sale i'll probably pick up at least the Avengers one, despite no inclusion of West Coast or other splinter lines.
i would like to see some lesser known titles get releases, maybe with two or three compiled into one package
my #1 interest is The Defenders, my all time favorite comic
but there are a bunch of other 2nd and 3rd tier teams/characters that i'm way more interested in than Spidey or FF.
an entire collection of Marvel Team-Ups, or What If?, or even a Secret Wars disc that just followed that whole story...

I can see where some people might hate it when it gets cross-over crazy in the late 80's and 90's. Hell, the cross-over craze (and going to college) is what made me quit collecting comics cold turkey around 1991.
If Superboy hates missing issues, then this is his worst nightmare:

I personally have all the comic collection runs I could ever want on bootleg dvds (even The Defenders
) but I will always buy the real thing if they release it. I figure, if these catch on as I hope they do, future releases would include a Spider-man disc consisting of complete runs of Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-man, Web of Spider-man, once-shots, cross-overs, mini-series, etc. I would just love to see DC get in on the act.
If it doesn't catch on...well, I got what they released while I could. I hate it when things go out of print and I end up hitting myself in the head over it later.

It is a picture of the artwork for the smaller Spider-man collection for just the last 20 years.
I will probably put all the artwork for all the boxes in the first post on the front page so people who just come in can see them and will just update as new ones come out. The artwork for the other releases are buried in the middle of the 2nd page.

Man, that's an awesome price on the complete Spidey disc. Of course I would buy it a few weeks earlier for 10 bucks more. I knew I should have waited until the movie was out but I never expected to see Circuit City carry them. Hell, I haven't seen most of these collections carried anywhere in any retail store.

One thing that confuses me...
I kinda dig the old ads on the older issues, but for most of the newer stuff shouldn't they have better masters than having to scan in old issues? I mean, they actually seem to flatten out bound comics to scan them... I'd think starting from at least a couple of years ago they would have started keeping digital copies or something.

In other news, a friend told me that he saw the complete Spider-man dvd-rom today at a local Sam's Club for $29.99 for those who missed the Circuit City sale.
