Anyone notice these threads start to get slower and slower at the end of the month, then whenever there's a new thread everyone posts comments like crazy, only for it to get slower and slower at the end of the month, then whenever there's a new thread everyone posts comments like crazy, only for it to get slower and slower at the end of the month, then whenever there's a new thread everyone posts comments like crazy, only for it to get slower and slower at the end of the month, then whenever there's a new thread everyone posts comments like crazy, only....

Maybe we're all getting our comics online, in a monthly package? That's my excuse, anyway...
I do use this thread to keep up with what comes out on a week to week basis, though. Usually it's a few people who post what they get for the week, and people kinda comment off of that...

New comics. I picked up a couple this weekend that are off the beaten path and worth commenting on.
The first is G0dland #3. It's written by Joe Casey and illustrated by Tom Scioli. This is a book right in the vein of Kirby. It reminds me of Fantastic Four mixed with Thor mixed with New Gods. And it doesn't hurt that Scioli is very clearly influenced in his drawing style by the King. The story is this: Adam Archer has amazing super powers; Adam is aided in his exploits by his sisters Neela, Stella, and Angie.
The first issue is online here:

The other cool book I picked up was Rocketo #2, which I think has been out a while. This is a trippy book. It's written and illustrated by Frank Espinosa. Artistically, it reminds me of Darwyn Cooke. In terms of story, it's like nothing I've ever seen -- it's the biography of Rocketo Garrison. Rocketo lives 2,000 years in the future in a world that's been decimated by some sort of catastrophe. As a result of the catastrophe, which had some sort of effect on the Earth's magnetic field, the world depends on mappers -- people with a special ability to navigate the world without getting lost. Rocketo is one such mapper. It's a really cool book.
Here's the Rocketo website, which has some preview pages:

Yeah I only go to my comic shop about once a month now, so I usually have no idea what you guys are talking about (well...especially in regards to DC stuff).
