Post a picture of your comic books (lots of images)

Rather than clutter up the one and only thread with pictures, I thought I'd start a separate thread.

So we're all talking about our shelves filled with TPBs -- let's see 'em

Here's shelf one: my DC Archives. I collect Legion of Superheroes, Plastic Man, Shazam, and Spirit. I'm dreadfully behind in all of them, particularly Spirit:

Shelfs two through four (the ones you can see the whole shelves) -- Marvel Essentials. This is every single Essential except the three Wovlerine ones (don't have 'em), the latest Daredevil (haven't read it yet, so it's not shelved), and the Ghost Rider that came out last week (haven't been to the shop yet):

Below the Essentials we start with the rest of the TPBs, alphabetical by character/team, more or less. Here we have things like Age of Bronze, Alien Legion, Avengers, and Batman:

Moving over to bookcase two, we take a break from the alphabetical TPBs for some odds and ends like some of my oversized books (Paradox Press Big Books, Tintin, some of the Alan Moore 2000AD reprints) on the top shelf and various series (Marvel Star Wars, Marvel GI Joe, Akira, and the DC 80 Page Giant replicas):

Back to the alphabetical stuff. Here are two more shelves. Captain America through Fallen Angel on top; Fantastic Four through Infinity Gauntlet on the second shelf:

Shelves four and five of the alphabetical stuff. Judgment Day is with the "S" section because I shelved it with Supreme.

Finishing off the alphabetical stuff with T through Z (except I have no Zs, so it's just T through Y):

More odd sized stuff on top and most of my strip collections:

Finally, starting on the bottom, we have the rest of the strips and some more odd-sized stuff like Adolf and Battle Royale. You cna also see the start of my prose fiction collection. The top shelf here has some really cool stuff. Batman from the 30s through the 70s and Superman from the 30s through the 70s are two extremely cool collections. I borrowe them from my uncle when I was growing up and read them over and over and over. I finally tracked down my own copies a few years ago. JLA/Avengers is the greatest thing my geeky inner fanboy ever read or ever will read, so of course I had to spring for the hardback collection. The Complete Far Side will soon be joined by the Complete Calvin and Hobbes. And then there's Captain Marvel vs. the Monster Society of Evil -- a great Golden Age tale that deserves to be brought into print in a more accessible version. The blue binder contains the looseleaf version of DC's Who's Who.

I also have 20 short boxes of comics, but I didn't take pictures of those because you all know what a short box looks like.

So ... I showed you mine; let's see yours!

Awesome collection dude! And I thought I had alot!

Nice to see someone else with a copy of Superman: From the 30's to the 70's. I remember seeing the Batman in that series as well as one with Captain Marvel or Shazam for those who don't know! Not sure if there was a Wonder Woman in the series or not.

Take care all!!

Will nobody step up to my challenge? EVen if you have fewer comics than me, we'd still like to see your collection!

lukewarmwater, it's hard to pick a single favorite Moore comic. Watchmen is a classic and really holds up well. I also like Moore's Supreme -- it's a great throwback to Weisinger-era Superman, but still manages to be very smart.

Dmacsg -- there was not a Wonder Woman volume in that series, but at about the same time as the three "30s to the 70s" volumes, Ms. Magazine published a collection of Wonder Woman reprints in a similar format. So it's sort of the unofficial fourth volume of that series.

Nice stuff, Kevin! Where our collections overlap, may I say that you have impeccable taste, and where they don't, may I say that I'm jealous?

Did you bind those Titans, Next Men, etc. yourself, or did you have someone do it for you? I know there's somebody on the Marvel Masterworks message board who binds collections for people -- I've been toying with having my collection of Simonson's Orion bound.

How much does it cost to get them bound like that. Is there any link to the person that does it. it may be worthwhile for the comics that aren't or will never be published in hardback or tpb's.

At an employee auction, I picked up 5 bookcases from an old work site, so I'll finally have the means to put up all my HC's on shelves, instead have having stacks all over the place. Paid about $3/bookcase, and they have 5 or 6 shelves each, so I should have plenty of bookshelf space now.

Maybe it's because I don't visit this board often (And since I stopped collecting) I'm a little confused here. If the stuff that I posted in my pic aren't comic books then what are they?

Everything else posted here looks like graphic novels and books (With comic-reprints in them) to me.

Help me out, anyone?

the cost starts at around $50 per book and goes up depending on what you want done as far as extras. they will bind just about any amount of issues up to about 25 per book. his website is www.dpbanks.com. go there and check everything out, it's neat.

About the only picture I would have to share is my comic closet.

Where can I find a host for free (that's good)?

Wow, nice collections.

I forgot about those Superman and Batman "from the 30's to 70's" books. When I was a kid, my local library had them, and I must have checked them out dozens of times. I'd love to get them, how much do they tend to go for on ebay now?

It's interesting that both of you seem to just have Cerebus up to "Church and State". I have "Jaka's Story" and "Melmoth" in addition, but always thought that the series started to go downhill after "Church and State"

I didn't check eBay, but abeBooks (they've got a good selection of used books from a bunch of sellers) has copies of the Batman volume ranging from $35 to $80. (There's also a copy for $18,800, but I can only presume that copy comes with the crack that the seller must be smoking if he thinks he can get $18,000 for this book). The Superman book has a slightly wider range -- $10 to $150.

I had always heard that after Church & State, Sim really went off the deep end. That, coupled with the fact that I thought Church & State was about 25-50% longer than it needed to be, have kept me from reading any further.

cultshock,

go to http://www.talesofwonder.com/ and do a search for the superman and batman books. they are about $15 each and tales of wonder is the best run source for trades on the net. really. as for cerebus, i bought those for half price and i actually haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

Thanks

Just out of the sense of completing the story, I kept with Cerebus. The book seemed to follow a typical human life because it got more and more senile as it went along.

Thanks for the tips about finding those books, guys.

Yep, you're right on both counts. "Jaka's Story" was just ok, and I thought "Melmoth" was a waste of time. I picked up some single issues after that, but saw that it wasn't getting any better and finally gave up on the series. Too bad, as "High Society" is one of my favourite comics stories. If the series retained that quality for the rest of its 300 issue run, I would have been very happy.

What the hell happened to Sim?

No, I agree with you Kane.

You're the only one who posted actual comic books.

All these other collections are just reprint trades.
