What comics are you reading? [Dec]
So it's the first of the month and it's a wednesday. You know what that means. Comic books for the month.
What a big day. New Y, LAST MAN, Ultimates Vol 2 #1, New Avengers, Superman/Batman, Detective comics, Outsiders.
Rebirth is in full blast. Still wondering what the whole impurity is going to be explained to be. Looks like all those who use the ring are getting or turning evil to some degree. Can Lord Malvolio have something to do with all this? Geoff Johns would be smart to use that.

No new stuff yet, though I'm expecting my November order to arrive today.
In the meantime I just started the Essential Super-Villain Team Up.
Just finished Spider-Man: Down Among the Dead Men & Batman: As the Crow Flies. (I think they were the titles).
Both were pretty good, though not spectacular. I love the Dodson's work on Spider-Man and Millar's more "mature" writing is okay. Nice cliffhanger ending. Decent Batman story though I found nothing new or exciting in it (Unless you count the Penquin angle, which I don't). Pretty standard Batman/Scarecrow story.
Better was JSA: Savage Time. This is one of the best team books I've read in ages.

Very small comic book week for me, so I'll run down what I picked up yesterday . . .
Detective Comics #801 - My PICK OF THE WEEK. Lapham on Batman, how could anyone not get this, this issue kicks off his 12 issue story-arc.
Fallen Angel #18 - Put down the new issue of X-whatever & try something new. This comic is brilliant, the best work of Peter David's career yet nobody reads it.
Intimates #2 - First issue was OK, but hopefully this issue will have a plot. Dig the art though.
Superman Batman #15 - Great book.
Swamp Thing #10 - Been diggin' the new series so far. Last issue was awesome.
Street Fighter #11 Cvr C Power Foil - I have every issue & printing they've done so the dorky completist in me had to get this.
Hunter Killer #0 - I hate to support Silvestri but what the hell.
New Avengers #1 - I so didn't want to get this, but I've been buying Avengers since I was a kid, I'll never drop it.
New X-Men #7 - I don't know what's wrong w/ me but I actually like this book. It's a guilty pleasure.
Uncanny X-Men #453 - See Avengers.
Doc Frankenstein #1 - I hate the Wachowski bros, sisters, whatever they are, but got this just for the art.
& I'm probably the only comic book fan in the world that didn't get Ultimates #1. I boycott anything Millar writes.

From: WAS looking for My Own Private Stuckeyville, but stuck in Liberty City (while missing Vice City)
This week?
in no particular order...
- Outsiders - John-freakin'-Walsh?? If Winick keeps this up [and with Raney leaving what art he was there for], this'll be an extra $2.50 in my pocket.
- the Ultimates 2
- Detective Comics
- Superman/Batman - Any word on who's writing after Loeb leaves?
- the "New" Avengers - They should really let some other people write their books. Enough with Bendis. The joke's getting stale.
- Uncanny X-Men - Not a fan of this storyline. Not a fan of the art either.
- Doc Frankenstein - Steve Skroce? 'nuff said.
- Alpha Flight - Heard number 12 was the last issue. Don't really care too much about the characters, but it's a light, sometimes funny, read.
- Captain America & Falcon - Priest was much better on Black Panther.
- Firestorm - Man, I hope Ronnie comes back. Last issue blew chunks [and since I don't collect whatever horrid book the conclusion of the "crossover" was in, I have no freakin' idea how it ended -- strangely, I could care less]. This issue has some pretty good art. Hope Chriscross comes back soon. Been a fan of his since his Milestone days.
- Jubilee - God, i'm such an X-Whore.
- Marvel Age Spider-Man - This should be $1.75, not $2.25.
- Rogue - My favorite character [and namesake] in a shitty book. This should be a crime.
- Sabretooth - See Jubilee. Though, Sears was part of the reason I bit. Not impressed.
- Swamp Thing
- Toe Tags
- GI Joe
- GI Joe/Transformers
- Noble Causes - Which i'll be dropping soon..
- Green Lantern: Rebirth 1 [third printing] - Unlike Identity Crisis, all they did was bleed the color from previous GL 1 & 2 covers and add some green, but, damn if this isn't one of the most gorgeous books this year.
- Green Lantern: Rebirth 2 [second printing]
- Identity Crisis 2 [second printing] - New B&W sketch cover by Rags.

i have gotten three shipmetns of trades this week so here is what i have to plow through:
Superman: Secret Identity-pretty good, although i still am kinda unsure about the hook of Superman as a normal guy. He's not normal, he's Superman. Anyway, pretty good.
MK 4 vol. 1- read this last night in one sitting. I thought it was excellent. Some of the dialogue was corny but overall a great read.
Hulk vol. 8- unlike some people, I have for the most part enjoyed Jones' run although I will have to go back to catch up before reading this book. I may just start from the beginning and go all the way through.
Ultimate Spidey HC vol. 5- looking forward to it but not as much as my brother who has been bugging me about this for DAYS!!!!
Batman in the 50's- oughtta be good fun.
Absolute Planetary-should be great!! I sold off my two HC's on ebay to pay for this so it should be worth it.
Liberty Meadows vol. 2- i LOVED the first one. It reminds me alot of Bloom County.
Outsiders vol. 2- really enjoyed the first one. hopefully the second one is as good.
Y vol. 4-FINALLY!!! I just went back a couple of days ago and reread vols. 1-3 so they are fresh. absolutely fantastic series!!
Punisher MAX vol. 2-another one where I really enjoyed the first volume.
Russ Manning Magnus HC- bought this blind buy I enjoyed the Valiant series so hopefully this will work out.
Pulse vol. 1-enjoyed Alias, and Bagley's art too. should be good, hopefully.
30 days of Night-Return to Barrow-hell yeah!! just watched Dawn of the Dead so I am in a zombie mood.
and lastly,
Bone- S&N HC- Sessa, is this worth it? I know that you had some qualms over in the Nov. thread about this. Is the book worth the price? I love hardcovers but I still have the TPB version so if the HC isn't great then I might consider keeping that instead if the quality is an issue.

My current stack o' trades:
-Gotham Central volume 1: In The Line Of Duty
-Marvel Age Spider-Girl volume 2 (don't have it yet as my shop sold out, and my copy is being transferred from another store)
-Flash & Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold
-The Pulse volume 1: Thin Air
-Blade: Black & White
-JLA volume 15: The Tenth Circle
-Marvel Masterworks The Amazing Spider-Man volume 1 (Barnes and Noble edition)
-Nightwing volume 1: A Knight In Bludhaven
-Hulk and Wolverine: Six Hours
I've only had time to read Flash & GL; although I'm plowing through Gotham Central V1. Looking forward to future volumes of it.
I bought the first few issues of The Pulse and JLA: Tenth Circle back when I was reading monthly books. When I quit them in favor of graphic novels and trades, those issues went out with everything else so it's cool to have those books again.
A couple questions:
1. Any ETA on Superman/Batman volume 2? I know they have enough for a second volume and it's my favorite comic right now. I'm going goofy waiting for a new volume.
2. Glancing at next week's release list over at Comics Unlimited, I saw something called "Batman: Jam Packed Action". Does anyone know what this is? Graphic novel perhaps? Or just a one shot comic?

It looks AMAZING on the outside, but Bone is one of the greatest things comic or otherwise I have ever read & the small art & inks that bleed through really made this frustrating for me. It will sit on my shelf pretty much forever, if I want to re-read Bone, I'll just bust out my single issues. So unless you are a huge fan like me or have money to burn, I'd say stick with the softcover.

The Bone Complete HC is going for quite a bit on Ebay nowadays. I'm kicking myself for not picking it up when it was around $95 plus shipping via a buy-it-now price. It goes for anywhere from $160-$190 now on Ebay.

Small week for me....
Ultimates: Volume 2, #1 - Great art (as always), but I'm not sure that I'm too fond of where this story's heading.
Detective Comics #801 - Great, great set up. Best portrayal of Gotham City I've read in a long time. Really looking forward to the rest of this story. Unfortunately, the back-up by Mike Carey was pretty lousy. Hopefully, that will change.
Y - The Last Man #29
Fallen Angel #18 - Fantastic issue! Big things happen, and there's promise of a lot more surprises next issue. Now if only they'd release a second trade so I can fill in all those missing issues.
And since I didn't have a lot of books, I also picked up the new Adam Strange figure from DC Direct. Very cool figure. Unfortunately, they had already sold out of the Atom figure.

as for liberty meadows, i really liked the first book. granted that brandy is hot but it reminded me alot of bloom county. not as funny mind you, but still amusing.
i also finished the Y vol. 4 book last night and it indeed was great. i just wish they would get the next one out sooner. the current one goes through #23 and they are now up to issue 29. with collecting about 6 issues per trade they hopefully will be getting another one out in the next few months. i hate waiting!!

I read New Avengers #1 and Hunter/Killer #0 last night. NA was a really interesting read, and I really liked the addition of the Sentry towards the end. I was a big fan of the original mini a few years ago. Hunter/Killer was fairly interesting, but didn't seem to break much new ground.

A feb release for sup/bat turner run. It's a nice looking cover. Rebirth has some rather nice Reprint covers for #1 and #2. Sketch covers which often are worth more then the original because of print numbers.
