Well bendis has a few characters he just loves to write for. Wolvie and Spidey are two of them and that's why you see him pop up in ultimate spidey a lot. lets see the other connections.. new avengers, secret wars.. yup. that's explained.
As for the new spider-man title.. they always saw it as it's a lot more appealing to buy an issue #1 than it is to buy issue #54 or whatever. So restarts are very common in marvel.

The first issue '”Faster…” starts with Superman attempting to rescue the first manned spaced mission to the sun!*An overdose of solar radiation triggers a fatal chain reaction in his cell structure, P.R.O.J.E.C.T. specialists race to create a new Superman and...well, you'll have to wait and see.
The Fortress*appears in issue #2, stuffed with a ton of new toys and gets*haunted by the bandaged ghost of the Unknown Superman of 4500 AD. The Kandorians finally get out of that bottle. Superman gets a new power. Clark Kent winds up sharing a prison cell with Lex Luthor in issue #5. The Bizarro Cube Earth*invades our world*in an epic 2-part adventure (no 'decompression' here!) and we're recasting the Bizarros as a frightening, unstoppable*zombie-plague style*menace. Bizarro Jor-El and the Bizarro JLA turn up in the second part of that*story too. What else? We meet Earth's replacement Superman and*Clark Kent takes on a new superhero identity...Ten of the 12 issues are complete short stories in 22 pages, so lots of stuff happens. And it all links together as a maxi-arc or whatever they call them these days, entitled 'The 12 Labors of Superman'.
Superman's Rogues Gallery is pretty weak, so I've tried to add some characters I think might*enhance the mix.*Solaris, the Tyrant Sun from the DC 1 Million series gets a makeover and a return visit, and*I*figured Superman*could use*a 'Subhuman' counterpart, so I've created Krull, an evolved dinosaur dictator who rules a monstrous civilization at the center of the earth. He's only in the story for a few pages but the concept is strong and feels like one that could be used again.*Then there's the Abominable Snowman, a tragic scientist*who's a bit like a refrigerated Incredible Hulk and turns up for a couple of pages. Superman needs some good tough monsters to fight, so I've tried to think along those lines. In most cases, the villains only get walk-on roles in this one, however.*Overall,*the series is*more about Superman's relationships with his friends and with the world than anything else.
People know my stuff and I'm sure they can guess what to expect. It's going to be big, bold sci-fi Superman for 12 issues.

What I picked up today on this last new book week of December:
Western Tales Of Terror #2 - MY PICK OF THE WEEK. BUY THIS BOOK, try something new. So many anthologies fail to be entertaining. This is a phenomenal collection of new stories from some of the best upcoming talent in the industry. Plus it's the west & horror combined, how can you not love that.
Concrete Human Dilemma #1 - Trying to avoid mini-series but it's Concrete. I can't help it.
Adam Strange #4 - Really wish this was a monthly
Batgirl #59
Batman Danger Girl #1 - Pretty much only got this for the Leinil Yu art.

JSA Strange Adventures #5 - What a dissapointment. This has been terrible.
Legion Of Super-Heroes #1 - Terrific first issue, if you've always thought the Legion was lame or to hard to get into, then this is the perfect jumping on point to change your mind.

Anyone here ever read DEADENDERS? It's a Vertigo book by Brubaker circa 2000. I'm going through all of his stories and just finished reading this 18-issue series. It really started off strong with lots of potential, but it looks like he wrapped it up too quick. I wonder if the series got canceled and he tried to get everything he could into the story so it wrapped up as good as possible.

Batgirl: Great issue. I can't see how they wont play with the idea of Robin and Batgirl getting romantic. It's just a matter of time.
Superman/Batman: A very cool issue. A lot of batman and superman ending up dead. Should have pleased many. Lets see what happens next.
what if... jessica jones: pretty decent read.
what if... X-men: sucked
Amazing spider-man: eh, set up nothing new
Elektra movie adaptation: I don't know why I got this one. I figure I could get it signed by garner. who knows. decent read. I got the script for the movie awhile back and it's alright for what it is. Though I still am not keen on Fox's comic films.
What if... spiderman: eh, nothing special. same shit, different path down the road. what a waste.

no shit. the what if... issues were just bad. Spending half the comic telling us shit we know about the hero isn't a good what if. We know who the fuck spiderman is. We know who the fuck jessica jones is. we know this shit. Just spend the time away from the guys telling the story and the back ground and get on with the fuck'n "What if"
