I liked it quite a bit. It rambled on a bit in places, but was overall pretty good.

Re: What are you reading? (October 2012)

About 1/4 of the way through Ulysses S. Grant's Personal Memoirs. Actually started it in September, but getting through the Mexican-American war was slow-reading for me :/

Finished: Salman Rushdie's Luka and the Fire of Life

The best children's book I've read in a decade. Finished it in a day. Can't wait to read it aloud to someone.

Currently reading "Bram Stoker's Dracula" ('tis the season) and listening to the audiobook of "In the Pleasure Groove" by Duran Duran bassist John Taylor.

Finally finished The Stand, started reading Star Trek (#59): The Rift...

Figured I needed an easy read after The Stand, I'm already 3/4 finished with The Rift... -kd5-

I'm now reading A Bend in the River by V.S. Naipaul, considered one of the masterpieces by the Nobel laureate.

I can see why. I'm about a third of the way in, and it's a really gripping read. Salim, an Indian Muslim shopkeeper, moves away from the African coast and buys a shop in the interior of an unnamed war-torn country.

Finished:

Oh, my. I've seen the movie countless times, and loved it each and every time. Despite the title, I wasn't expecting the book to be as crazy as it was. Maybe because I've seen the movie so many times first, this is one of the few times I like the movie over the book. I didn't care for how overly crazy Bateman was, preferring the slower descent portrayed in the movie. I did enjoy the inane conversations he had. Especially the bit where he was on the phone with a couple other people trying to find a place to eat, but with all of the call waiting clicks and arguing, hours had passed.
