Finished:

Reading:

and bits and pieces of this, when I have time.

I read Paradise Lost many years ago in a college English Lit class. I didn't really appreciate it back then and since the Sandman Slim series and another book I have in my "to read" pile kind of build upon the idea in Paradise Lost, I wanted to go back and read it again.

I read the first Reacher novel and couldn't really get into it. I finished it and didn't have the urge to read the rest of them. Although I have readall of The Spenser novels and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I had no idea this was released. I read the first two so I guess I'll finish it off. I'll need to go back to figure out what happened in the first two books.
As mentioned, full length stories. Definitely less consistent in quality than the show, but I have to admit I am enjoying the latest one. Some have been weak, especially Dexter In The Dark.
Same with me. I read the first one, and I honestly can't remember finishing it, but I was disappointed with it. Apparently the series does get better so I'll eventually go back to it.

So far, War for the Oaks is pretty good. The opening was a little slow, but I can understand that it was going for some setup of the back story and character development. It's funny reading it since it seems to be set in the late 80s/early 90s I think. When the characters went to a club, First Avenue, I chuckled a little as I went to that club once with my college roommate and his fiancee when I was in town to be in their wedding as a groomsman. I'm about halfway through the book.

Finished Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which I thought was great. Looking forward to the movie.
Just started this:

It's a little preachy but I'm enjoying it.

Is this continuing the main storyline of Dune or are they doing prequels and stuff now? Basically, what sisterhood is there? The Benes?

I'm tackling this trilogy now. Thanks to getting frustrated by some pokey authors *coughGRRM* I don't touch multi-book series until they're done. I'm not terribly impressed, though it's ok and fast reading so I'll finish the thing. Did del Toro do much of the writing on this, or is it one of those deals where the other guy mostly wrote it but the publishers are piggy-backing on del Toro's name to sell more copies?
Other books I finished over the holidays:

Cheesy fun that pretty much throws everything but the kitchen sink at the reader. Good follow-up to the previous "Patient Zero" (which I recommend if you want to read a cross between "24"-style anti-terrorist thriller and zombie horror). Though like that book, sticklers for realistic characters and action scenes should look elsewhere
"Dragon Factory" did have one "realistic" touch I chuckled at:
Also,

I'm a bit behind in my China Mieville, probably put off by the disappointing "Iron Council". So I'm glad to see him move on from the Bas Lag setting and try something new. I'm back on board with this book. Reading (and seeing movies) as much as I do, it's thrilling to occasionally experience truly original ideas ... and this book has it. You start off thinking you're reading a regular murder police procedural (set in a fictional Eastern European country). Until little strange-seeming details about the world keep hitting you, and you realize it's anything but a routine story. Readers who demand nothing being left to the imagination will probably be upset (and I'm sure Amazon is filled with plenty of negative reviews like this). But those open to something different should find something to enjoy and remember.
