Just finished last night, and really enjoyed it. As with the Cowboys book he wrote, it's amazing to hear what was going on behind the scenes. TMZ would have had around the clock coverage of both of these teams if they had been around. I would think that because it happened so many years ago, people had no issues in telling Pearlman everything. I'm curious as to how his other books would be, given that their subjects (Clemens & Bonds) are much more recent. I guess I'll find out soon, since my next book is:

James Lipton - Inside "Inside," which I found for $6.98 in hardback at Barnes & Noble recently. It isn't often that my vocabulary is challenged, but that's one of the things I appreciate most about Lipton. In a society that is at times openly hostile to anyone with more than a rudimentary education, he has not been shamed into dumbing down his choice of words...while somehow managing not to come off as being flagrantly condescending about it.

My Friend Leonard - James Frey.
I understand the controversey surrounding A Million Little Pieces but I still loved it. I am a huge fan of his writing style - be it real or fabricated. I just treat it as fiction, nothing bothers me.
Only about 40 pages in and I'm hooked.

Just finished it. It is crazy that the book is considered "YA", other than the simplistic writing style there is no reason at all that this book should be for young readers. For any that don't know its basically about a post-American society where the typical evil-oppresive government controls North America and forces under age children to enter a ritualistic tournament every year where they must fight to the death until one child is left standing. The book is loaded with children getting killed and at times in gruesome ways.
That said, the book is worth reading but definitely not worth the hype some people shower it with. It basically feels like Battle Royale meets Naruto. The characters are paper thin & I had one huge problem that really kept me from getting into the book. The book is fun though & I'll likely read the next chapter to see where it goes.
