For schlock, you could do worse than Nico Mastorakis. He's not a great filmmaker but eminently watchable most of the time.

Agreed. It was having two of his other Arrow releases — NIGHTMARE AT NOON and HIRED TO KILL — that prompted me to get the rest (except .COM FOR MURDER, which I saw years ago and found unmemorable). In terms of budgets and production quality, some of his movies kinda remind me of similarly higher-grade schlock from someone like fellow mini-mogul James Glickenhaus (although the latter’s output is generally better overall).

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

I posted this in the MVD shop thread, but I'm also putting it here in case some folks don't check that one, and also because these are Arrow titles, which might turn up from other retailers (including Arrow) as part of the same promo, and/or with better shipping options.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

First week selections of the Martial Arts Month sale at MVD Shop are up. Nineteen titles only, all Arrow, but a new(-ish?) low on the Shawscope Volume 2 at $69.65, although $8 flat rate shipping puts it closer to Amazon's brief drop to $79.99 back in December, I think. Still, this is a wee bit cheaper for those who missed that, although I still suspect these will drop even cheaper down the road as the clock runs out (i.e. maybe $60 as per Hamilton Books on the first box). I only need two titles in this sale, and both are new lows, but the shipping kinda scotches the deal.

Not bad pricing at $14.65 for each of the Shaw three- and four-packs, which gives you all the titles from the first Shawscope collection for about $52 shipped.

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

I already have most of these titles from Eureka, so now I have to decide if I want region A copies badly enough to go to the hassle of selling the region B. And I know that while most of the content is almost exactly the same between the Arrows and the Eurekas, a couple of these do have very small upgrades. For example, Iron Fisted Monk used a censored print in the UK, but the US version is uncensored.

I’d imagine the extras differ between some of them? I say that because it kinda drives me nuts one a regular basis, especially different commentaries by the same (supposedly unremunerated) people, or slightly different interviews with the same cast members, etc.

Good catch! I continually forget that that one was dropped from the standard sets. Guess they know there’s too much value in a standalone version down the road.

I believe the extras are mostly consistent between the Eureka and Arrow versions. The Angela Mao double feature is literally the same discs with different menus depending on what region your machine is.

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

Is it just me, or have the Arrow U.S. prices not dropped yet? I'm seeing, for example, $28.00 US for a lot of standard Blu-ray editions, and $70 for many of the boxed sets that are often on sale for around $40. Same prices on my phone and desktop, too. Is there a code or something this time?

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

Actually, I think I'm seeing them start to drop now, in bits and pieces. I was curious if they might drop Shawscope 2 to $35 dollars again like they did last year, but it looks like it's at $90 now, so still better elsewhere.

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

Nothing for this time (or the last sale) and nothing from the last Criterion flash sale.

I should take the money I've saved and just buy the one Arrow release that's on my wishlist but OOP (the Black Cats boxset).

Re: Arrow Video Sales Thread

This could be really old news here, that I was just unaware of, but in going to that Easter Carnage sale I saw that Arrow released The Heroin Busters on Blu. Only it's under the title Rogue Cops and Racketeers: Two Films by Enzo G. Castellari. I love that movie and thought the only version was the Blue Underground DVD. I'll be getting that one at the very least.

For those unfamiliar with it, it ends up in a spectacular 20 minute motorcycle chase sequence with some of the best stunts I've seen outside of a Jackie Chan flick.

When I try to use the US code I'm told: "Coupon code expired on: 29 February 2024 06:00" (using all caps) or that it's "Invalid or not applicable to items in your cart" (all lower case) - I have no steelbooks in the cart.

It worked the other day. I guess they deactivated it.
