I wish. I'm struggling with the implications of this sale like everyone since I've put off many Kino purchases in the past for whatever reason.

I really don't feel like dropping several hundred at once but I know many of these discs won't get much cheaper ever again.

I'm secretly hoping Kino ends the sale early so I can have an excuse for missing it.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

what I did was to create a budget (max $ I can afford to spend). Put my wishlist into the cart, and then whittle it down until I got to my budget #. It was very tough, but got it down to a list I can live with...

update: drat. drat. drat. didn't see 5 key titles I wanted.... grrrrrrr...

If anyone's yet to order 'Hell in the Pacific', it seems like there's absolutely no reason to get the BD for PQ improvements based on this capsaholic image comparisons with the DVD counterpart - of course, you will be your own judge

Are you blind? The very first comparison, showing Mifune on the beach, shows much better detail. Look again. Maybe you didn't wait for both images to load?

Relax, tiger. Maybe he did't move his mouse cursor off of the image when it first appeared.

The way the page loaded on my PC is that an enlarged view of the DVD screen shot appeared first and my cursor was right over the image. I usually use my mouse scroll wheel to scroll up and down pages, but this time I accidentally nudged my mouse and the cursor move off the browser window completely. The higher rez BR shot only appeared when the cursor off the page and the crappy image changed. And that's the very enlarged image below the smaller image that is, in turn, below the numbered pics.

I have that page open in another window right now, and the image changes back and forth when I move the cursor over and off the image. Cursor on the image, it looks like crap. Move it off, boom, BR quality. Now mind you, that's when it first loads with the first image. Start clicking on the numbered images and things change a bit. It's inconsistent in the way it works, but you get to play around with the images in a way that shows the differences in BR vs. DVD image quality.

Sorry if I sent people on to the wrong track on that BD PQ quality. Perhaps my 1366×768 laptop screen is the culprit as well - I certainly am not blind and hope never to be, thank you

No problem, you just had me super worried for a minute because I did order the movie! I was relieved when I clicked on your link and saw a great improvement.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

First Order:

Back Roads $7.98
The Passage $12.99
Cop $8.98
Cops and Robbers $8.98
The Great Train Robbery $9.98
Table For Five $7.98

I will be placing another order. I really like Kino Lorber's selection of titles, and cannot resist getting some titles that have been my favorite for decades, but also, titles that just don't show up on any streaming service.

Is there a minimum order amount required to get free shipping from them?

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

Thought I was out, but they pulled me back in! Those late-week additions pinned me against the wall forced me to surrender more money over the weekend, even with the higher pricing on certain discs. I've gotten fed up waiting for several of these to drop to or below Kino's sale prices at Amazon or even on the Amazon marketplace for years now. Candy and Malone were supposed to be in my previous order, but I realized I must've deleted them by mistake once I received my order confirmation. The only one I really should've skipped for now is The Apple, but I really want to give that commentary a spin:

Blu-ray:
Burn, Witch, Burn $13.99
The Land That Time Forgot $13.99
The People That Time Forgot $13.49
Queen of Blood $13.49
Shadows in an Empty Room $13.49
The Apple $13.49
The Chase $13.49
Malone $9.98
The Black Sleep $9.98

DVDs:
Candy $7.98
Drum $10.99
Savage Weekend $10.99

Now I'm officially done with Kino. Hopefully I can let future "must-haves" and "wanna-sees" accumulate for another year or two. Once these arrive, it will be heaven clearing out a MASSIVE chunk of my "saved for later" cart at Amazon.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

while I haven't seen it, Kino has a 12-part action serial called "Daredevils of the Red Circle" that has gotten rave reviews and is listed on DVDTalk's "DVD Collectors edition" rating..

I would have to buy 4 other titles to get free shipping so not sure if I am going to extend myself anymore... but something to look into if you putting in an order and are into that kind of genre.

Between that and the upcoming Captain Marvel they've covered two of my top three favorite serials. Fingers crossed hard for King of the Rocketmen.

It would be nice to get upgrades of the Lugosi serials. A couple are on Roan, but most are Alpha or VCI only.

Second batch - $78.74

The Beautiful Blonde From Bashful Bend
Broken Arrow
Chandu the Magician
Daredevils of the Red Circle
David and Bathsheba
Deluge
Invisible Invaders
The Lemon Drop Kid

So, that's 17 Kino blus for $165.26 - $9.72 ea. Awesome deal for an old movie guy like me.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

My order has been placed, and I'm sure it will as a surprise to no one that I ordered more than I planned. Almost half of them are upgrades, but I figure this would be the best time to buy them. I also try to rationalize that the Blu-ray cases will take up less room on the shelves. Yeah, just keep telling myself that.

I'm Gonna Git You Sucka $8.98
Lifeboat $9.98
Buffalo Bill and the Indians $9.98
One, Two, Three $11.98
Thieves Like Us $9.98
Those Redheads from Seattle (3D Edition) $13.98
The Paradine Case $11.98
The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming $9.98
Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum $9.98
The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes $9.98
Witness for the Prosecution $11.98
Coming Home $9.98
Marty $9.98
River's Edge $9.98

If anyone is looking for another movie to add to an order, I highly recommend One, Two, Three. It's a great Billy Wilder film that features one of my favorite James Cagney performances. Even though it's a little more expensive, I just had to finally get it.

How fast is everyone getting their shipment? I ordered on 7/23 I think and still waiting. The tracking number that they sent me doesn't work...

I ordered on 7/27; no shipping notice yet. I do have a pre-order in my order, though, and it's not released until the 29th...

wow! you are right! I copied the tracking info into fedex site and 2 orders are arriving on Saturday!
My other 2 orders have no tracking info.

Why Kino is linking to the USPS tracking site is beyond me

Well... this is all interesting.

Guess I'll place my order Saturday, hope it isn't shipped until the pre-orders are released on the 8th, and cross my fingers that it doesn't arrive until I return home on the 22nd.

Or the 23rd... depending on how much time we are delayed stopping to watch the eclipse on the 21st.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

Mine ended up making it to the post office yesterday. Die to distance from home, I got it today. Nice batch for $50; that $25 Noir box was a steal! Watching Hurricane at the moment. I grabbed it because it's said to be going oop; I may have been happier with a different choice. Kino did fine, just not sure if it's the greatest film.

Re: Kino Studio Classics 'Launch' Sale - Ends August 6, 2017

Re: Hurricane. That was my concern, too. This was one of the few times I bought something mainly because it was going OOP and I didn't want to pay insane prices to get it on ebay. Not sure if I would have bought it otherwise. Will not do this again. I have bought too many good/great films from this sale.. Looking forward to getting those to watch!
