Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule

Great Train Robbery and Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum have been sitting in my cart since release, so I finally picked them up.

In just about any larger order, the savings + no tax would've been greater than the added expense of shipping from Canada.

On the plus side, this U.S. sale includes closer discounts on titles that were still relatively new, and higher priced, during the Canadian sale, like Blown Away, Tales of Terror, Truck Turner, Deranged and probably a few others, but even there, the pricing would've been nearly the same, and you wouldn't pay the tax.

More of a plus: the new sale includes pre-orders like Satan Bug, Hornet's Nest, The Destructors, Busting and Defiance for $11.49, so those seem to be the real deals.

Any yes, i know in the end it all comes down to how many titles a person wants, speed of shipment, etc., but should this Kino sale become an annual thing, and should the Canadian dollar keep falling, it's probably worth keeping this info in mind for next year.
True but shipping would have added more to the price and impacted the difference.

I stopped doing that one as the credits do not stack and Prime Pantry items tend to be a bit higher than local prices for me. Not only that but the $5 max credit per order *still* leaves you $1 short of the cost to ship a "Box" unless you can manage to take advantage of one of the "combine items for free shipping" offers.

The Oblong Box pre-order(10/20) is included. Right now 14.49. Probably the cheapest it will ever be.

My bank also adds an "ISA" charge (currency conversion) even on credit & debit cards, that would also raise it a bit.

Does anyone have a link to the sale? Or is the only access to put "Kino Lorber" in the search engine & wade through the streaming & VHS Videos?

The title that I picked up that is considered horror is Needful Things. It's based on a Stephen King book.

GIANT GRAPHIC OF KINO TITLES

I picked up Life Stinks and Cherry 2000 (I already own several of the titles in the sale unfortunately). I was going to pre-order Scissors which was also heavily discounted, but that would be a complete blind buy (couldn't even find a domestic trailer) so I'll wait.

Not true. Even with shipping, the Canadian sale was better all around for American customers ordering more than, say, four or five titles. And let's face it, there are a LOT of worthy titles in the KL Classics line, so picking six or more should be a breeze. It's all about the rising American dollar. Your issue was brought up by someone else (who likewise didn't research it -- even when the sale was live -- by test-filling a cart on Amazon.ca but not completing the checkout) in this thread:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/blu-ray-bar...sics-sale.html

But as you can see by the last post there, NINE titles were bought for pennies more than $10 US each, shipped. (the only title in the U.S. sale that comes close appears to be Black Sabbath at $9.99, which even I picked up!)

Kings of the Sun 9.99Can
The McKenzie Break 9.49Can
Separate Tables 11.75Can
Topkapi 10.49Can
Taras Bulba (DVD) 8.25Can

S&H 25.90Can
Total 116.09Can = 91.67 US dollars

So $10 and change for each. Not bad with 7 of them BLUs.

Thanks OP.

Current prices, in USD, of those nine titles -- two DVDs duly noted -- on U.S. Amazon:

The Package 13.49
Bouna Sera, Mrs Campbell 11.99
Mr Majestyk (DVD) 10.99
Meteor 13.49
Kings of the Sun 15.49
The McKenzie Break 13.99
Separate Tables 13.49
Topkapi 12.99
Taras Bulba (DVD) 9.99
TOTAL: $115.91USD

Total if purchased in the Canadian sale and shipped to U.S.: $91.67USD

Difference: $24.24 USD

I could do this math for just about any order -- above five or six discs, I would suspect -- placed during this U.S. sale, and the equivalent order from the Canadian sale would have been cheaper.

And yes, I'm aware the Canadian sale is over and none of this is helpful now, BUT the Canadian dollar continues to fall against the U.S. dollar (yours is worth $1.32 up here today, and rising), and if that relationship maintains into next year and Kino decides to make this an annual thing, it only makes sense for Americans to stock up from Canada. Not sure if I can make it much clearer than that.

Still, if you're only after two or three, then the U.S. sale is fine.

As an example, if you purchased the nine titles above, would your ISA charge be $24.24? If not, then the Canadian sale was the better opportunity.

Might be worth waiting . . .

I'm kind of hoping Kino does this more than once a year -- a la the various Criterion sales -- on both sides of the border. That way American buyers wouldn't have to wait until next summer. Hopefully we weren't just a test run up here. No one's predicting a dramatic rise in the Canadian dollar against the greenback anytime soon, but that's still a long ways off. My only regret in all of this was that I didn't open a U.S. dollar account with my bank back when our currencies were at par for most of last year. Could've saved even more buying and shipping my Canadian haul to (ironically) my U.S. mailbox!

Don't think so; it would help the Canadian economy. Their concern is Canadians buying from the USA, & the Canadian gvt not getting the import tax.

The prices were set very high, I agree. I think they weren't expecting many sales for them and wanted to charge as much as they could get away with. I doubt we ever get all of the I Love Lucy seasons on BD.
