No, it's an arthouse movie made for very eccentric tastes. But it's a buck and can be flipped very easily if you don't like it.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I found a Secret Life of Bees BD today and passed on it. Even at $1, I asked myself if I would ever watch it.

It's actually not bad for what it is. Minimalist indie/art house, the entire cast were not professional actors and a lot of improvised dialogue. I may be a bit biased though as a friend of mine did the soundtrack.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
^The movie was OOP and was selling for some decent money before this stock turned up at Dollar Tree. If you hang onto them for a while, it's probably still not getting a new pressing, so value could rise again.

Glad Bubble is good, as I bought 3 DVD & 1 blu based on what they're listed at on Amazon before I saw how low they are on ebay. I suspect I'll end up getting stuck with all 4, unless I sell the blu for next to nothing. The dvd is selling for less than ebay/PayPal fees + shipping.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Local store put BluRays out. Nothing that hasn't been reported (except Exodus?), but a few comments on the digital versions.
I initially tried to redeem the digital copy of Counselor using Vudu, where it failed. But it worked fine at Movies Anywhere, and so did all the rest of these Fox movies (all HD, though the digital version of Walking lost 3D): Counselor Exodus The Fault in Our Stars Great Expectations Paper Towns Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie (3D) One Fox movie had one of those old upload to iTunes codes, but it failed saying it was the wrong region: Movie 43 |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I believe Fox stopped giving UV rights for their digital codes. Now it's either Movies Anywhere or nothing.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Found the unrated version of Robocop on Blu-ray. Seems to have almost all of the Criterion's release extras.
|
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Visited 3 DTs during this sale and came up with 7 blu buys: Let's Be Cops; Parental Guidance; Counselor; Police Story Lockdown; Hitman Agent 47; Walking with Dinosaurs; & Mao's Last Dancer. Not bad, IMO.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
My local Dollar Tree had a window poster for Blu-rays but not a single disc. That's the closest I've come to this DT having any titles.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
The local DT where I found a ton last week still had a few of the weaker titles left on dvd & blu.
|
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Just watched "Joy" from the last batch. One of my best blind buys ever if you run into one at a DT.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
The day before Christmas I realized I was not going to have time to wrap anything, so I stopped in my nearest Dollar tree to get some gift bags. It was surprisingly un-crowded and a couple of workers were stripping the shelves of Christmas and hanging up Valentines Day stuff. I was heading to the checkout when I spied an empty aisle with 4 boxes of movies on one of the shelf. They looked like they had just been opened. There were both DVDs and Blu-rays. I got the Robocop unrated director's cut, Panic in the Streets (1950 noir) and a 4-disc 10-hour miniseries called Fortitude (with slipcover) all for $1 each. I also got 2 DVDs: Batman:return of the caped crusaders (animated with Adam West and Burt Ward doing the voices) and Filth with James McAvoy. When I was checking out, the cashier asked where I found these and I pointed to the boxes. She said "cool, I'm going to have to check those out."
My guess is that these were found in the back and were supposed to be put out earlier or they are supposed to be for an upcoming promotion. I got first grabs. There really was not too much else. I saw several copies of a movie in a snapper case, which I haven't seen for a while. They had lots of Robocops, only one Fortitude. |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
This is definitely a new wave of DVD/BD boxes meant for this Friday's promotion. I saw the lady open the boxes and put them out in the front bin today.
Some new titles are included I've never seen before at Dollar Tree. A ton of Relativity (now bankrupt) Blu-rays like Black Nativity and About Last Night, plus some oddball c-movie stuff on Blu-ray. Also some animated DVDs aimed at kids, from the aforementioned Batman movie to new-school Tom & Jerry. This one location didn't have a deep selection. At most 2-3 boxes of Blu-rays, and more DVDs than BDs. |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Today, a worker at the local DT was kind enough to open 2 cases of BD's for me to peruse through.
My purchases: The 5th Quarter Rampart Assassination The Marine 3: Homefront Fame (Extended Dance Edt.) The Lazarus Effect Capote Hitchcock Of the titles I bought, only 2 (Rampart & Assassination) were either not 20th Century Fox or MGM distributed by Fox. |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I hit just one store yesterday evening and found Scrubs Season 8 on BD (among other titles). Will update this as I hit more stores.
EDIT: Hit 4 more stores tonight. Two were already severely picked over, the other two don't appear to have put out their stock yet. I was going to ask a clerk but they had scant evening help and so just left. EDIT #2: Hit a few more stores on the way home from visiting relatives. My final damage: Scrubs S8 The Usual Suspects (Wal-Mart promo cover) Robocop (2014) Milk Capote Hitchcock Frost/Nixon Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist Why Stop Now Me & Orson Welles (DVD) Broken Saints (DVD) A nice selection this time. I'm used to DT sales including so man films I've never heard of. |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I came across a second store. This one didn't have a great BD selection, even fewer than the first one. Though I suspect they had been out a couple days and most had already been sold. I saw Honeymoon In Vegas and The Warrior's Way.
Most interesting were the single-disc Looney Tunes DVDs. |

Five Minutes of Heaven French Connection II Greenberg He Was a Quiet Man Manglehorn Take Me Home Tonight |

Picked up the following yesterday:
Beyond the Lights Fame (2009) Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work The King of Comedy Lola Versus The Oranges Robocop (1987) What Maisie Knew |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Kudos to the ones who picked up Joan Rivers...I've been trying to find that one with no luck. Might just pay the $4 (including shipping) on Ebay and be done with it. I did find a really good book recently called Time Salvager by Wesley Chu at the DT along with some Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare figure mystery bags (made by KNex) (4 Bags and only one duplicate, woot!)

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
My nearby Dollar Tree has dozens of Parkland, Sex Drive and a Dolph Lundren double feature. That's it.
|
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Was in my local store last night to pick up some batteries when I found a stash of new BDs and DVDs in the electronics section and not in the front of the store. The manager said they put them out in the morning. Picked up

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I've been by my local DT every day since Larkin posted the above notice, and every day I've picked up at least one disc from there. There's definitely something brewing, most probably for this weekend. Here's what I've picked up so far:
Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work The Innkeepers Assassination (2015) Calvary Paper Man The Proposition Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal Paris, Je T'Aime Memories of the Sword (with slipcover) Twixt A Case of You Super I also picked up these DVDs: Conan O'Brien Can't Stop Experimenter 20 Wild Westerns Kinsey (Special Edition) Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume Two Melancholia The Flock To the Wonder |
Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Certainly a bit of IFC/MPI and First Look Studios dump, looking at those titles listed. There are a couple more stores around me that I visited today and picked up:

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Bought a lone copy of Point Blank(1967)-yes the Lee Marvin movie, on blu. It's unclear if this store had a restock, it was mostly dvds with 2 other blu's, one was a ray liotta/seth green movie, which I passed on. They did have 2 dvd's of Palo Alto, which appears to be a part of the restock. They were in electronics aisle, solar lights up front.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
Thanks for the tip on the "Electronics" section, otherwise I wouldn't have found them I managed to get "Hail, Caesar", "Super", and "The Warrior's Way" on BD. There was also a BD called "The Assassin" from WellGo USA that I decided to buy "Blind".

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!
I've been checking my closest store this week. There's an assortment of exercise DVDs in the electronic section. Nothing on the front display yet, but I wouldn't be shocked if something went in today.
