Went to what i thought was a little out of the way Dollar Tree today. They did have the display but it was really badly picked over. They had about eight copies of Standing Up in blu and the rest was dvds. In the electronic aisle, there were only two other blu-rays Shark Night (which looked dreadful) and Enough Said (exactly the words I was looking for). I let my wife buy her stuff and left with nothing. I probably should have went earlier in the week.

San Antonio DT,
Picked up Blu-rays of:
Taken 3 - Digital version good until 4/21/18
November Man - Digital version expired but still worked
Out of the Furnace - Digital version expired but still worked

Noticed copies of:
Dom Hemingway
Russell Madness
Foxcatcher

Drove by a DT today; decided they were probably too picked out to bother.

It would be nice if they would be more consistent what day they put these batches out; so I could decide something like, "Feb 20th, must be at $ Tree at 9 AM".

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

There are quite a few Dollars Tree stores in my area. Some only a few miles apart. I stopped by a few since last Friday and it varies when they put out the merch. One location I visited was pretty picked over but I found a copy of Paranoia (which came with HD copy, not the one which is only SD iTunes capable). When I went up to the counter to pay, the cashier commented that the reason it was picked over was their boss bought all the good Blu-ray before putting the discs out.

can you post the site on which you redeemed the code for 'Out of the Furnace' ? My insert says relativityuv.com which says it no longer supports UV. I called Fox and they said go to relativityredeem.com and redeem it on Vudu. When I try to do that, the site keeps clocking with no timeout and no response. Thanks

EDIT: Never mind. I redeemed it directly on Vudu despite the Fox rep telling it has to be redeemed only on Relativityredeem.com. Thanks

Which stores had these ? I looked in like 5 stores over the week and only found standing up and I am not interested in it

Don't recall exactly which stores had what but the stores I hit were in Huntington Beach, Westminster, Long Beach, Buena Park, Cypress, Anaheim and Fountain Valley. Some of the titles I listed were the only copies available

At $1, any half decent blu is going to get snapped up a reseller within an hour after opening.

It usually takes 24-36 hours in my experience. The DVDs will hang around for a few days, but Blu-rays placed at the front of a Dollar Tree store are mostly gone after that time frame.

Picked up 2 each of Taken 2/Taken 3/Chasing Mavericks/Russell Madness/Foxcatcher on Blu-Ray. (One for myself/other is for friends/family.)
Got the last 2 of Chasing Mavericks and Foxcatcher - they had 2 each of the Takens and 5 of Russell Madness left.

For the heck of it since my wife likes going to this other Dollar Tree better, I decided to go look with her as well. A little better selection. A ton of Foxcatcher, and then a little bit of Standing Up, Robocop (The unrated release of the classic), and even a couple copies of Bounty Killer. I only picked up Foxcatcher as I have that Robocop release and Bounty Killer is okay but I already own it too and trying to sell it. I guess in retrospect, I should probably lower the price now, lol. But I also found a $1 hardback to read which is always nice.

Stopped by since I saw this thread and picked up:

November Man
Dom Hemingway
Taken 3
Freebirds (kids movie)

I don't really like the physical copy anymore so was focusing on only blu rays that had a digital copy. Also saw Fargo but no digital copy so passed.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Bounty Killer as a fine b-movie.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

BDs/DVDs are back! A large display was at the front of my store (though no signage to indicate it was the item of the week).

Here are the BD titles I noticed:

The Best of Me
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
Black or White
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (animated)
No Good Deed
The Raven
The Seventh Dwarf (animated)

Way more DVDs, though it's as if every box contained the same assortment because each row was the same dozen titles. I did pick up Codebreakers (an ESPN film), Do You Believe in Miracles? and a cartoon series called Super 6.

My local store only had a few titles, but I did pick up Barney's Version and Sex Tape. I don't remember any of the other titles; it was a pretty lackluster selection.

Stopped at two locations last night, one had them out but only had one blu-ray title, Fading Gigolo, with John Turturro. Lots of kid titles on DVD.

Picked up the following (1 each)
Barney's Version (Atleast 20 copies)
Lymelife w/slip (2 copies)
Stonehearst Asylum (2 copies)
Personal Effects (2 copies)
Sex Tape (2 copies)
Charlie Countryman w/slip (4 copies)
Ninja (10 copies)
Angry Birds Season 1 Volume 2 (1 copy)

I'm probably going to go in Fri Am, but truthfully, I haven't seen a single title here or on You Tube that I want.

I enjoyed Stonehearst Asylum a great deal. Kate Beckinsale in a Victorian thriller, need I say more.

Charlie Countryman is probably most notable for an Evan Rachel Wood nude scene.

Thanx for the tip! I'll be the first to admit that USA films from this century (actually from the 90's - now) are probably the weakest link in my film knowledge, other than a few artists like Woody Allen that I follow.

I have found a few nice surprises in the last year.

Stopped by two Dollar Trees, and they had almost 100% different selections. And except for Ninja and Charlie Countryman, I saw none of the Blu-rays on bobwil54's list. Here's what I picked up:

22 Jump Street
Charlie Countryman
Blue Jasmine
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
Survivor
Ninja II
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Forgot to get a list of the Blu-rays I skipped.

Survivor
Tekken

I hit the local today. They had not put them out yet. They let me look. 5 identical boxes; no blu-rays. The only film worth mentioning that I already own was Reality Bites. They told me to check again on Tuesday, that they often get shipments a week late?

Don't think it's regional. The two Dollar Trees I visited were less than a quarter mile apart, but had almost completely different selections.

MooMooMooMoo 04-28-18 07:01 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Hit a 2nd DT. Similar story. They received 4 boxes total, with 1 blu (it was already sold, no idea what it was).

Both stores thought they would get more next week (one Monday, one Tuesday)

Stopped by a DT in an area I don't normally frequent. The only BD's they had were Charlie Countryman(about 12-15 copies)and single copies of The Iceman, a Robert Deniro 2 pack(Killing Season/Red Lights) and Foxcatcher. The only one I picked up was The Iceman.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I went to 10 stores in South LA and the South Bay of SoCal today (because they weren't out Thursday and I was busy yesterday), and 9 of them had 2-5 of the following, often in large quantities, sometimes 25+ apiece:

Battle of the Year
Charlie Countryman
Guadalcanal: Island of Death
The Iceman
Parkland
Sleuth

So the same as laidbacklarkin, minus any Robocop.

Those 9 stores were:

855 Sepulveda Blvd
23126 Hawthorne Blvd
1206 Beryl Street
4181 Redondo Beach Blvd
2218 Artesia Blvd
13039 Hawthorne Blvd
14700 Crenshaw Blvd
16610 S Western Ave
1431 W Knox Street

A tenth store, 22217 Palos Verdes Blvd also had a couple each of:
Grand Piano
Standing Up

laidbacklarkin 04-28-18 08:35 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I went to another store near Long Beach (SoCal) today - all they had was a s**tload of 'Charlie Countryman' copies.

JoeySeven 04-28-18 11:49 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

First time in awhile my local dollar tree had a
bad batch or many multiple copies of mostly DVD.I'm guessing around 90% DVD.
I also checked all the boxes under the table.

Only 4 different Blu-Rays.
About 25 copies each of Baggage Claim and Survivor.
And a few copies of mirror mirror and crap crap.

PhantomStranger 04-29-18 03:57 PM

I'm pretty glad I already own the more interesting movies in this new Dollar Tree wave.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I grabbed Charlie Countryman and Stonehearst Asylum from my local DT (in Katy).

If anybody finds a copy of the Compleat Al or the Digital Comic ones (Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk for example) on DVD, let me know. I don't really buy DVDs anymore, but those I'll make an exception and I'll pay for them to be shipped to me (or we can make trades because lord knows I have plenty of stuff to trade). Thanks!

PhantomStranger 04-30-18 01:34 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I came across one store with about 30 copies each of Parkland, Sex Tape and The Best of Me. They had no other BDs.

After Phantom's recommendation, I wouldn't mind finding Stonehearst Asylum for $1.

My local store only had Sleuth, Parkland and Guadalcanal: Island of Death. Picked up the first 2. No real interest in the Guadalcanal: Island of Death disc.

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I checked the local store yesterday to see if they had gotten any more. Absolutely 0.

PhantomStranger 05-06-18 01:00 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I don't really believe Dollar Trees get multiple shipments of media. It's just that some locations don't open all their boxes and put them out at once.

If you want to master Dollar Tree, it pays getting friendly with someone that works there.

MooMooMooMoo 05-06-18 05:35 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

One of the 2 closest to my house took me in the back room a week ago Friday & showed me the 5 small boxes they had received. That's all there was.

I believe you that some of the stores get more than others. I used to know almost all of the local Big Lots managers in their heyday & often got access before stuff hit the floor. Certain stores got 3-4 times more product than others.
