Do you have to cash in the coupons the same day you get them? Or, can I go in and get my coupons now, then cash them in later in the month?

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012
I hit a speed bump once I brought my selections to the cashier, but the small hassle wound up being worthwhile.
Initially the cashier said that the coupons couldn't be used on sale titles, so I showed him the '$x.xx with coupon' text in the weekly ad. He insisted, so I requested he bring a manager over, who confirmed what we all knew here already: a manager override was required and there was an issue with the prices and coupon in the computer system.
Both were apologetic and nice about the whole thing, and the manager was in such a rush to finish my transaction that she applied multiple extra discounts, causing me to wind up with:
Horrible Bosses (BR/DVD/Digital) $9.99 (-$5.00 discount)
Fright Night (BR/DVD) $9.99 (-$10.00 discount)
The Hangover 2 (BR/DVD/Digital) $9.99 (-$5.00 discount)
Five Days Of War (BR) $9.99 (-$5.00 discount)
Insomnia (BR) $4.99 (-$5.00 discount)
and...
Chickenfoot (Vinyl LP) $4.99 (-$5.00 discount)
She REALLY was not paying attention. I thought the "Fright Night" double discount was curious, but when I saw the discount off of the record I knew I'd lucked out.
So, after using a $50 gift card from Christmas, I paid $3 and change out of pocket.
Count me in the very satisfied customer column for this promotion.

Traded 7 HD DVDs (all of which I already have on blu) for
Cape Fear
American Gangster combo (careful, the non-combo rings up $14.99)
Knocked Up combo
40 Year Old Virgin combo
Three Amigos (yes, stickered $37.99, but rang up $12.99)
Warrior combo
Stripes
I'm going back later in the week with some more HD DVDs for Moneyball and Fever Pitch and maybe Boardwalk Empire.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012
They barely glanced at my trade-ins. No inspecting and no scanning of barcodes. They saw me set a stack of 3 dvds on the counter and they gave me a coupon for the 3 of them. They never touched them.
Wasn't sure if they going to let me to get "Raging Bull" since it wasn't on the eligibility list, but they never raised an eyebrow--and there I was all ready to argue and thrust the ad in their face. The sticker price said $24.99, it was on sale for $9.99, and I paid only $4.99.
I hope this promotion becomes a regular thing. I hope it's as beneficial for them as it is for me. Who among us can't appreciate a $5 blu?

Be on the lookout for misprices - titles tagged lower than they ring up. I got the following, among others (with override, of course):
Once Upon a Time in the West - $4.99
The Man Who Would Be King - $9.99
Galaxy Quest - $4.99
Tropic Thunder - $4.99

When I heard them start murmuring about "checking the list of eligible titles" (they were even printing out the one on the web site), I was already pulling out my copy of the flyer and flipping to page 11. And then I showed them the disclaimer on the trade-in coupon they scan, that also said "any Blu-ray $9.99 and up" (music BDs and concerts excepted of course). They got quiet really fast.
Another fat dude who also was not a manager came over with a list of qualified titles and said I had to choose from the list. Four times during all this I showed them the coupon just as Superdaddy did. They got very disgusted and did an override to bring the price down to $9.99 and the girl didn't even say thank you. I heard the customer behind me in the now long line say, "What the hell was that all about?" The girl said: "I don't know. I'm just a cashier."

Everything went fine for me. I traded five DVDs in, only used 3 of the coupons this time though. I got:
The Crow (excited about this one, the website said my store was out of stock)
Ghostbusters
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 &3
One of the DVDS I traded was in a Blockbuster case. No problems. He opened the case, looked at the disc and moved on to the next case.

Does Best Buy issue an actual printed certificate for each DVD or do they just photocopy a pre-printed code based on how many DVDs you trade-in?

I upgraded at two different store and never was issued a coupon, nor did the cashier use one. They just had a sku number which they manually entered.
Both these store wer giving out pre-printed coupons last time.

They didn't give me coupons either. They just had this little coupon with a bar code (I assume this is the one they usually hand out), and scanned it multiple times. (I traded in five titles). I did already have the BDs picked out when I went to the CS desk to trade in the DVDs though, so they probably figured it was pointless to issue me coupons anyway.

For anyone that got Stripes and Spider-man. What specifically did you tell them to have them honor the $9.99 tag price or did they not argue with you over it? The one store I went to said we cannot make a price more expensive no matter what the tag stated. I call BS on that one, but just wondering if you stated something besides the obvious about the tag being $9.99 thx

Lots of pre-printed coupons at my store. The employees here are being very accommodating during this sale. I brought in Region 2 DVDs and HD DVDs and they took them without batting an eye.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012
Got Stripes, Thelma and Louise, American Beauty, Cape Fear and Raging Bull for $25. Basically I had to tell them how it worked and what to do since they had absolutely no clue. The one thing they managed was to price adjust Stripes up without any override. I just told them it was marked $9.99. Did notice as I was picking out my movies that they were ting away all the $9.99 shelf tags from the $9.99 display. Maybe they were gonna put $9.75 tags up?
They were out of Road to Perdition and I might get 3 amogos and Wall Street later in the week. Also maybe Louie.

It sounds like most of you had to bring up what you want to purchase to the CS desk with your trade-ins? I always expected that the CS desk would just hand you coupons, and you could check-out at the standard registers...

This was my first time participating in this deal, but I don't think you have to bring the titles you want to buy to the CS desk. You can just trade in your DVDs there, get the discount coupon in exchange for your trades, and then go pick out your new movies. I picked out the titles I wanted to buy first to make sure I could find enough titles of interest to me before I gave up the DVDs. (A couple of titles I was looking for weren't available, but I found enough good stuff to trade in all five of my titles anyway).

^ OK, thanks. I'm about to do my first BB trade-in within the hour... I have 5 titles to unload. I don't anticipate having any trouble finding 5 titles to buy...

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save, Jan 8 - Jan 28, 2012
the salesperson at my BB specifically told me "the $5 off coupon will work on ANY blu-ray that's priced at $9.99 and up even including items on sale", so i had no problem using the coupon on any blu-rays, excluding music blu-rays.
also, when i went there last night, the customer service line was pretty long, so they set up another booth in the middle of the store specicially set up to handle the upgrade and save dvds. you are indeed able to exchange your dvds and recieve the $5 off coupon to be used whenever you want up until 1/28. so hopefully you guys shouldn't have problems with that.
was able to get these titles last night (prices after $5 coupon):
Last of the Mohicans ($7.99)
Carlitto's Way ($4.99)
Kick-Ass combo ($4.99)
City of God ($9.99)
Cape Fear ($4.99)
i'm having trouble locating a copy of Road to Perdition at any of my local BB's, and it's unfortunate that you're not able to "check available stores" online to see which store carries it. if i'm not able to find a copy, i will most likely purchase it from Amazon, since the price on it has dropped to $9.99. but damn, i would love to pick this up for $5.

I suspect Road to Perdition is an online only title for them. Has anyone actually seen it in a store?

I guess stripes is at 9.75 now.
he manually adjusted it to $9.99
when he added coupon it took 5.24 off though, making it $4.75

I got American Beauty and Stripes. They manually changed Stripes. Galaxyquest rang up at 19.99 so I don't know how somebody got that. Couldn't find a bunch others. Will have to hit another store.
